Thanks Cuniagau! SO right..I am hoping he made it thru the War years..No info on the inside so a hopeless case.

That’s not a fatty but an obese ring, just look at that weight. Congrats on another amazing gold OBN.

Thanks Seeker! Good Luck to you my friend.

Thanks Compass! I am paying for it today...just can't get enough.

Great ring... you are amazing with the finds Joe! 👍🏻

Given the design goal of the machine, with a distinct focus on the gold ring range, it’s possible that a nickel is an almost perfect target for the AQ. A nickel does sit pretty near the middle of the desirable gold ring range. I say “almost perfect” because lacking a hole in the middle takes it down from the pinnacle of perfection as a target. However, I’d surmise the pulses per second (pps) and everything else are optimized for something far closer to a nickel than a silver quarter (for example). I have not tested it, but it may hit a nickel just as deep or even deeper than a quarter. This machine is not optimized at all for silver. And I’m good with that.

    Thank You...

I bet your right Steve...Not only nickels but seems the AQ is nailing a lots of brass and other targets that fall into the gold range. Good for US!

Well done on  that great honker. You go big and  I go low.  I just came back  from hunting   near clay with a lot of iron and snuck out a small 1.1 gram white gold ring with tiny diamond which gave me a 3 tid on the  Nox in  PK.1. At least it was 14K.I am on a small gold streak.

Thank You! Any gold is a welcome sight, it's like a shot of adrenaline.

Most everything has been said.  WTG Joe!

You just keep adding them up.  You know the greats didn't get them all but I don't think you are going to leave many scraps now.  Success begets success and now you have a tool that will get those heavy sinkers.

    Mitchel

Thanks Mitchel! Very crazy I have got maybe 100 gold rings from this spot since I found it in 2015, and it just keeps on giving. Not like it did the first year which got over 50...........but it still gives up the random gold.

Could you please precisely describe the conditions and settings you are using and the results you get in terms of background noise.

If you do not have too many troubles in the same conditions, please do report as well.

Even if you do not usually go into the surf, please make a try to help us diagnose any potential problem.

A supplementary test much easier to do is to set the system in full sensitivity and ALL metal and pinch several times the coil sides with your finger. if there is a default in the internal shielding of the coil, the system should react by a clear beeping else no problem. In the latter case, the coil should probably also not react under the salt water.

As shown by Le Jag on the short video above, the system should not react at all when the coil is submerged in f moving sea water . If any one AQ reacts, it could be that its coil has a problem of inside shielding continuity.

    Rick,

Can you help us gathering the results of this poll?

    Thanks

    Conditions change daily ..

The last two outings, same spot ..Water Salinity here is 28 to 30..considered brackish. Hunting waist/chest/ shoulder deep 2 hunts

    08/20/2020...........17 gram Class ring, calm water..low winds..SE 4 mph

Delay was 10 today, ATS I did play with but ended up set on 7, sensitivity was around 6, volume 8, threshold I did play with some also. But ended up just below 5, audible. All Metal only..

    AQ worked perfect, Smooth

08/22/2020.......2....14k wedding bands...12 mph SE winds ..semi-rough water

    Delay 11.5....ATS 6.....Sensitivity 6, .......volume 8...........threshold 4-5 just audible ..All Metal only

AQ ran very smooth after adjusting the delay to 11.5

We think that this problem is not a general behavior of the system with whatever type of coil. That was thoroughly tested by Alexandre,  Le Jag and Carl Moreland before in the same conditions.

System and 12.5 coil are fine, and please do not detune the AQ..

Has either of those 3 heros of mine hunted "In" saltwater?  I don't mean running the coil thru the saltwater ..

Waist to Chest deep with the  "AQ" at different locations for hours?.....I would bet my AQ No........See this is a common knowledge if your a "IN the water hunter".......... "Every beach" is different.  And the conditions can change from day to day...Beach sand hunting conditions rarely change...once your in the water it's a ever changing environment. And what the "AQ is doing is common with all water machines...some places they work and others .........spots are difficult..

It's no ones fault other then the AQ was never subjected to all of the conditions of the world. And I believe that's why Rick made a special effort to spread them out...

I can go on but it is simple..from my experiences over the years the little 8 inch is going to help, I hope enough to where I can say...

    I told you so..

That's one heavy ring. Poor bugger probably drowned wearing it 😮 Congrats!

LOL, That's funny! It's a smaller size ring but it does have some meat to it. ..........And Thank You!

    Congrats Joe!!

You have got to be the leader of the pack with AQ gold finds so far!!

Be Safe!! And keep the tally running!!💍👍👍

Thanks Joe D! Having it Mid May really gave me the jump on learning how it operated. I think the time I spent testing was really was the key. It for sure has found a home, with the excalibur.

  5. My excaliburs (VLF) and infinium had that issue with the coil connectors, ..One reason I went back to hard wired on the excaliburs..Also I found removing the control pod of the excal from the saltwater helps a lot also. Which I plan to do with the AQ down the road. Just need a longer coil cable so all fits nicely under the drysuit. Both the excalibur and the AQ share a lot of the same issues when it comes to rushing saltwater..But the AQ's audio is 2X what the excals is......

The reason I'm loving my audio cut off on the AQ...

set all the knobs to the marked presets and just hunted the wet/damp sand and still made noise. The only way it wouldn’t make noisy is if I slowed down my swing speed to 3-4 seconds, so for gridding a small area it’s ideal. I’m sure it will still false in rushing water no matter what setting but I’ll find out after tomorrow’s hunt. If I hunted with the pod underwater it would probably run quieter but with the waves here I would never get the target out.

That swing speed is killing me also being the big coil is like a steering wheel. I think if we do see a 8 inch AQ coil it's going to be a Big help to all...

    Nice ring!

Thank You! I would love to see the owner of this ring but it has nothing inside other then the fineness mark. So kool they have that up...least I get to see the possibles. Just looked 105 grads, not a very big class.

On that dated ring I found.......... I was able to send out a email to one of the grand daughters but never got a response. Plus I posted on one of the pages she posted and asked the Admin to please contact her for I had information about here great father. Nothing.

    Thanks You for the information..joe

  8. Thanks for sharing. I love my SunSpots, both 720's and you are 100% on the small holes. Best for catching the small targets. I do like the angle of the newer scoop for hunting in deep water better...you don't have to drink the water. Shallow water the 90 is fine..

One thing I do not like about most manufacturers handles,... is the Grips...I like the old Bill Babs scoop grips, you don't have to look. You feel which way the scoop is facing for it has a grip molded to fit your fingers grip. You can get those Grips at McMaster Carr..Finger-Groove Round Grips

    Dew has an AQ???

Where is an "order form" to get a custom coil made? How does that work? 😲

Sorry Corrected.......that should be ........ I'll see how the 8 does...

No order forum, there are a few ..One I do know of and I am sure he would love to get his hands on the AQ, but he has some years on him. Then add in the virus thing...which  complicates everything.

  10. My opinion ...... I think the 8 inch will be perfect in the water for most. ....reason, coil control, swing speed.

then being able to use "More" of it's Raw power.

And I believe it would be the smallest usable size that would help others in high salt area's and still be a decent size to swing..

Anything bigger is taking a big chance.

Once all of this stuff has settled Dew .............. I'll see how the 8 does  I "may" have a 10 made...

The past month and a half have been unusually good for me detecting-wise and I feel incredibly blessed. A lot of it is luck but I do think that being retired has given me the time to learn my hunting grounds and detectors a little better as well as giving me more flexibility to detect where and when I want. GL&HH!

Good Job Compass, Beautiful gold! And Amen to the above!

I was thinking the 1919 penny was from the time period when they may had put the wedding date or something romantic written inside.

Water has been bad here for about a week now....I see a opening for you to catch up...Don't let it rest!! Put the 🔨..down!

Ah Joe. Anything less than a 10 inch coil and it feels like I am out there with a teaspoon.

To be honest. I feel a 12.5" and 8" coil at the beach are both worthless for me. There is just no way to sugar coat it. 😒

Every beach is different so I am sure your right where you hunt. And I agree, when you got that small coil it seems like your swinging a hockey puck. Those were my thoughts walking out the door with the small 7.5 excalibur coil.....😬..But for some reason I did fairly well with it........So the size you think would be best for you would the 9.5?

8" coil is just too small for the beach. Thoughts should be put to toward a 9 1/2"

    Thanks Dave

I would like to see a 9 inch but for the purpose of making the machine useible in adverse conditions I think the 8 would be safer.

I don't think it is to small for I remember years ago when I did hunt the ocean..... the Excalibur 800 with the 7.5 inch coil did as well as the stock 10 on finding gold. But one thing for sure,..... in my head I always wanted to grab the 10 first thinking it would be better..
