  1. No doubt it is the saltwater and current, my Excaliburs are not stock and I run both Hot and they make all the same noise with the 10 inch coil as the AQ....... The AQ acts just like my excalibur but at a much stronger audio. I go out for a hunt with the excaliburs and I know I am going to be fighting the surf........ I'll take the little 8...And it calms the effects of saltwater...........I am sure the same will be with the AQ...just needs a smaller coil for rushing/rough salt water. If you look at all of the Eric Foster water machines they run small coils ....Barracuda is the same....

I'm very happy with the 12.5 but will welcome the 8 inch for sure....

I guess the loss in depth due to the small coil can be made up by being able to run the AQ Hotter...going to be interesting for I run my AQ in the water between 8 and 11 delay ..Come on 8 Inch!!

I've experienced the same when I bring guys with me many times. It's weird. I think it's just a "feeling" you get being intune with everything. In the zone I guess. But maybe you are like Steve Austin , the bionic man  , with supersonic hearing with those headphones you got !

I think your correct, Feel, connection, in the zone, knowledge of.....not sure what you would call it but it does make a big difference. Seems here every beach is different but can show the same characteristic from time to time. So you have to go in with the mind set of what you know and ready to learn more. Like my friend Tom said, there is a Art to it.

It really does sound like your being "one" with the area you hunt! There are those i know of on the Treasure Coast that are like that! They just know when and where the fleet treasure is; and what it takes to find it!  And it's more than just knowing the wreck locations! That is common knowledge here! Beach dynamics, and wind play a huge part!  I know of a few places where there is literally treasure under my feet, but not only is it impossible to get to without very expensive equipment, but also not legal due to treasure leases!

Keep up the finds, and the stories! Love to hear about your successes, and experiences!👍👍

That is so true, I'm very blessed to have the sense of where to look and what to listen for at the beach's I hunt. I can't tell you how many  times I 've taken others......... they may pull up something like a lead toy or something that tells me that area has potential. My next trip back with out them I'll get in there and get gold.

Last year I took my friend Mark to a spot, put him in where I had found old coins and told him I was going looking around. So I went out deep and just searching found a few silver coin........ Unfortunately....Mark found nothing but junk. The next day I took Mr Ed...Same place...turned him loose and said I'm going deep to look around....Poor Ed found less then Mark..I got a few more silver coins and a gold band. It hit me then I was onto something, And I would go back the very next good lowtide...That Sunday all looked good...and it was the start of a 36 gold ring July 2019..As of this past March the 13th I had got over 130 gold rings from that spot...Boom..... storm comes in around March 15th, I think..Gone...It was great while it lasted. This spot I really went out of my way to hide..The gold was fairly shallow...And hopefully someday in my life it will open again.....Now I have the AQ, see how that goes this winter.

  4. Here is my buddy Tom..Great ocean hunter. Found one of the biggest gold rings I've ever seen 103 grams 14k a few years ago in OC... He came for a visit in 2015, we had a great time...40 years of hunting experience with hundreds of rings found during those year. And keep in mind he hunts the ocean..OC Md.. He was out of his territory...So he had a hard day in the bay...Picture is my hunt..

What I'm getting at is : you bring 30 guys out to detect at 1 of your spots over time. Only 1 can really do decent. I'm just wanting to know why is all. For me , detecting is fairly easy. Probably because I've done it awile. Finding gold these days on the other hand , is not. And I would much rather play guitar like EVH. Not Knopfler !

Most I bring along have been hunting many years...So they have the latest detectors but i would call some fresh drop hunters.......their were a few I did bring that knew what to listen and how to hunt very good but not being in their comfort zone, places they know really makes it harder. Jim in Ma is one, that's on here, very good hunter..(Mike Rocked that day on Jim's visit, I struck out) Then... I've had Casper along also, most of the New England hunters know very well what I am speaking of..it more or less the guys that hunt the ocean..walk out and dig hunter that have a hard time. It's just a different type of hunting then they are use to...You put me on one of your beach's and I would be lost and only able to find gold if I got my coil over it...

It would take a book to explain but a short answer would be, you can't just walk out and expect to find any targets here. You have to know what to slow down and listen for..then you have no clue where it will be on this 1000 foot by 900 foot out stretch in the water...and it is possible there maybe a open area then there may not be. Targets are going to be signals that are so faint you really have to listen...Then you add in the water conditions, winds and other noise........

The "one" ..........Mike Guard does Very well also, we speak the same language when it comes to hunting the bay...I see Jimpugh posted some words I really recognized...Ghost signals...signals you really have to say..was that a signal? That's what we listen for...because there are no others.

Let me find a post by a hunter I took before...40 plus years of hunting experience..he was ready and pumped up......went home with a nickel and a sunburn.

Hi  Obn.How many pieces  of gold have you found this year that were under 2 grams.    Out  of the  13 gold I have found 6  are 10k for sure and one is rose gold and unmarked that are under 2 grams.  I call all10k gold  under 2 grams with no stones or cheap stones pop corn gold  as they are a snack until something better comes along. Chains and stud earrings are not included here for they are in there own category  because  of how tough they are to find.Maybe I need to come to your bay for the big stuff. I could be a lookout for you for the bull sharks.

We have close to 80 beaches in the Bay, most are closed now but offer some kind of treasures.  What sizes and styles of gold I dig is based on locations. Seems beach's back years ago were more segregated. Also the time period and the wealth of the area has shown to affect what type of gold I find.

Just did a quick check on size, seems I have 7 that are under 2 grams....for the year.

Your more then welcome to visit, I've taken many hunters out the last 6 years. (Maybe 30+) And not to brag but only one has shown me he could find the gold I find....Mike Guard.....In fact both of us have learned from each other. And really I would have a hard time going to another body of water and finding treasure unless I did it on a regular bases or just pure luck. I feel knowing the beach's you hunt has a lot to do with how well one does.

Really wondering how many and what type of roots you have worked to get these finds!

    Carry on and find more!

    Thanks RobNC!

Been detecting 12 years, about 6 years of it was Ocean hunting while I was still working. During those years I was researching the Chesapeake Bay.....then once retired I left the Ocean and started using my research of the bay. Been hunting and Learning the Bay 6 years now .....the only problem is being in the right spot, and as the old saying goes...One door closes and another opens. It's up to me to find it...I feel I have the best combo for the job.. 4 modified excal's....and the AQ...Then add Being Very Blessed in many ways.. ..I could not ask for more.

Looks like he had a really good first time out with the machine Joe. Nice he could hunt with those settings as I saw there is at least one user that is having problems with the AQ being chatty with those kind of settings.

Did I miss the trick with moving the scoop near the coil to change the target sounds, care to elaborate on the procedure?

    Cliff

I'm not sure on that trick. I know he is on this forum and will read. Maybe he will send me the recipe on how to.

And yes on Deb, hopefully she will post on here her experince with the AQ for she hunts in the same area as you and Dew I believe.

  8. Posting for a "AQ" owner who would like to remain anonymous for now. Hunts on the East coast of the USA. Saltwater.......First time out with his new machine.

Got a 14k today. Ran smooth except in front of one area that has a lot of emi. Keep the coil under water there not bad at all. I could run 7 u's no problem but preferred 9. Battery lasted 3 hrs 5 mins. All metal and Tones mods used.
7 nickels 8 pennies 2 ear rings 1 Bobbie pin 1 swivel 1 paper clip 1/2 spoon some brass 1 14k 1 tiny tiny brass piece of fish hook 7 u's two full scoops deep so I say 10 to 12 inches. 3 caps fooled me.

I can't answer questions on this hunt but just goes to show his experience with the beach's he hunts and with a Pi shows.

OMG! Joe that rings a MONSTER! Great silver too.....CONGRATS & WTG!!!

Thanks Aaron! Honestly, that maybe the only reason I found it where I did, it being 11 grams, deep and in sand mix only. The excalibur hits deep on bigger gold rings, it's the ones that are smaller it is weak on once you get down deeper.

Keep up the good work my friend! And Good Luck if you get out...

Thanks Joe for the video! My main beach still closed due to the virus. What the media is not telling anyone is here living on the Texas and Mexico Border is, the hospitals in Mexico are filled with Covid-19 patients  and have run out of oxygen. They are letting people that are sick come over and admit themselves to our hospitals. In return our numbers went sky high and wont come down. The hospitals stated by law we cannot refuse service to anyone.

Due to my job i am in the emergency rooms where all these sick people are all over the valley and i can see with my own eyes hallways are full, rooms are all full. they have opened up large convention centers it has become so bad. But yet they still let a bingo hall open for business with about 150 to 200 people inside. The people in charge down here have figured out the more sick people the more funding and money that will be thrown at them. Believe me the corruption outdoes the virus 2 to 1.

So i cannot hunt my beach so I will have to tag along with you Joe through your videos, hope you dont mind the company. I Promise I Will Not tell anyone the location of your honey holes. Lol Be safe out there in the water and around the virus. That goes for everyone out and about. Happy Hunting to All>

Very Welcome Sir and Thank You for your service. A very tough job to have in these times, Prays for you and the rest of the Hero's. Anytime just ask I will send you video's, I do capture most of the stuff on video, and only share now and then..

Well that explains it pretty well about the noise between the two. I am running the Excalibur at 9-10 in pinpoint and it gets somewhat noisy with chatter mostly on uneven bottom. There is also the long dull noise at the end of some swings but I just deal with it. I am running the stock Minelab earphones but will soon be sporting some Tony E's. You sure are neck deep out there. When I wear a wet suit in the winter it's almost impossible for me to dig those deep targets when that deep. I become too buoyant and need a weight belt. Thanks for the video... Bob

I think you will like the T.E. Headphones...They seem to be clearer and crisper on the audio then the Stock and GGA's. One advantige I have using the Skullies I make..You can hear the details which really adds to the Threshold. Good Luck!!

Are you sure that's not swamp moss on that ring ? Amazing ring sizer with the spring. I have never seen one of those. Is that gold also ? The few rings I find out here have some kind of tape or dental floss. This is telling , because obviously the ring is too big for the wearer. I wish more people would buy oversized rings so they can "grow" into them. Or should I say "grow out" of them !

Haha..No swamp grass. Just good old Yarn, I remember that was the thing in late 60's and early 70's..Girls used yarn..

Yes the fit all was gold except the spring which was brass or SS..been awhile since I sold it..got 40 dollars for it. Gas money.

Thanks Buddy, Hope all is good. I love all of the old silvers but your right, the barbers and walkers are very special. Luckly this is one of the better one's I've pulled.

That is a nice ring with some heft to it.The big lake was a little choppy today so I hunted in   close where the currents  were moving  at a good pace. I got a .71 gram thin ring that barely fits on my pinky with a heart shape clear stone at 10k.What would you call these rings? little sissy. It brings me  at 12  for the year.I got a silver earring with small stones too.I am   beat from hunting in these conditions but it was satisfying getting gold even if they are dinky.

    Thank You!

Small or Big .....either makes the ride home much easier. And never cut yourself short by comparing to others, everyone hunts different locations which will yeld different results...Finding that little ring tells me you don't miss much, which makes for a very good hunter.

WTG Pirate nice one. I wouldn't want to swallow any of that water after these rains.  I need to get out, it's been too long. Come on fall.

Did you save any of those Ring Daddy top five spots. I had them somewhere, but can't find them.

    HH

    Mike``

Thanks Mike! Yes it was just one of those days where all of the targets were just beyond my reach..I saved tons of the depot stuff to PDF files...Not sure what I'll do with it but maybe some good reading someday when I can't get out..Be Safe buddy, Fall is coming..

Hey Joe... Why isn't the AQ desirable in rough water? Lately I've been using the Excalibur in pinpoint mode in all kinds of surf and it isn't noisy or troubled at all. I like how unaffected it is in those conditions. Thanks! Bob

Thanks Okara...Several reason on using the Excalibur...and not the AQ...First would be the AQ is noisy in rough water..and I'm not sure what your running but my excalibur is also. I do run it Hot...sensitivity at 9 most of the time..And ..I did turn it back to 10 yesterday. ...(PP)..Even set at ten yesterday I would get a false at the end of the swing right. So imagine the AQ the same but louder...(and I'm not say more but the same, but x2 louder).....A big thing also I am shoulder to chin deep...I struggle digging deep targets even with the excalibur and I am not one to walk away from a target...I am afraid if I take the AQ I may not be able to get to some targets..then I'm pissed....I went back to the same place today...and just drove past..too much for both machines..White caps and 18 mph waves...But good tides are coming and the AQ will get more callings for I'll feel better about getting deep..

And there are other reasons but my best judgement is based on the machine I feel I know best and what I know about the AQ....then which is going to give me the best chance of finding gold in the coditions present.

    Great job.

You'll have to add up the total gold.  Just the facts (gold) mam.  How many ounces so far?

Thanks MN90403!! You know I weight up some in April and I was at 8 oz's and that has been a while. But I do have a picture of the end of year 2019.. I don't think this year will be as good for I have cut back on my hunting since the virus thing...and I've got lazy with the Ring daddy closing. Here is 2019..

Forget the ring. More impressive is the somewhat intact 65 year old band-aid. You will now be known as a KOB II. (King Of Bandaids).

Or you can be the 1st Bandaid Daddy !

Thanks Buddy! I have had a few in the last 7 years, one even had green yarn. But the bandaid seems to had been the thing to do...see if I can find the picture of the green yarn one..

Ok while looking for the (green yarn) I found a few more, most bandaid sizers..but also a legit real gold sizer which I sold..for a good amount of money ..

Looks like your right, I am a KOB also.. 🙂

Nice one, Joe.  I never get bored seeing you bring these rings back to the surface after so many years.  Keep it up!

By the way, I also miss that certain Ring Daddy page.  Would love to see it come back somewhere someday.

    Bill

Thanks Bill! Yes, I miss the ring daddy also. It really keep me jumping and keeping all of my hunts organized. For awhile I just took a couple of pictures and put them in one big folder..2020..But recently I got back to keeping all organized. Yes, be nice but I like Steve's forum here also...Nice and clean..
