  1. Wow, That is some great work on all !! Well thought out and made. Over the years I think I tried just about every possible. I got a box full of old amps and the best was Doc's Treasure screamer. Never got around to making it fully submersible, I did speakers also. I ended up finding that using 50mm Audio Unlimited Piezo's with a super then membrane as the piezo plate with a very a thin piece of tube as the horn using dow111 as the protective covering gives me the very loudest audio you would need. The secret is, low restriction of the piezo. If used for diving it would have to be serviced after every hunt. Here are the speakers I did..Audiosears https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gHS84aRm_k And how I made them...Add to the video, I found doubling the Gortex material was the best for long life.
  2. Not me, but let it be known Frank passed about 10 years ago and I was able to acquire some of his research on the Chesapeake Bay, Thanks to his daughter. She was in the process of selling the home in Glen Burnie and I got up the nerve to stop and say hi..and she was kind enough to give me a box of pictures, papers, notes and maps. I think Bob passed in the 90's if I remember correct. And Many Thanks to everyone for the kind words, Be Safe and stay Healthy! Good Luck also if you get a chance to hit the beach..💪
  3. To be honest I am not sure, the problem lies.... it may work one place and not another. And how does one go about achieving full global testing of something like this......... Words from Eric Foster on the subject.. Eric Foster Splicing a coax does cause a problem, It exposes the central conductor to capacitive effects, and this is what is happening when the cable dips in and out of the sea. When using a short delay, this effect gets worse as it upsets the damping setting. At the point you are sampling, the sudden extra capacitance will give a slight change in the recovery response. Dipping the coil in the water only gives a short beep as the SAT cancels it out. You are OK if the join is always in the water - or always out of it.You can get rid of the effect by increasing the delay to 15 - 20us, but you will lose some sensitivity to small items.Wrapping metallic tape around the join can make matters worse, as the tape is ungrounded until it touches the water, and you can get a bigger capacitive change. The other problem with an unshielded splice, is that it forms a small one turn TX/RX coil that is in series with the main coil. If the spice is up against a metal shaft, it will generate a signal which will vary if there is relative movement.
  4. I should teach them but unfortunately they seem to have other interest. Yes those books were classics...Those books started a metal detecting revolution in this area. Sad both have now passed .
  5. As crazy as it may sound...I can see someone putting the batteries in backwards...⚡ I've had one customers remove the larger O-ring I used on the excalibur endcap I sold him..and swap it out with the smaller stock O-Ring...Then installed the endcap before his island vacation......😬 disaster.
  6. Welcome.... Not to bad, I still encounter a few who think it's funny but most are considerate once they see me Flagging with my scoop and sifter. On the water I can hear them coming a mile away too...SO I am very on what is going on around me..that I can hear anyway's. I see and .....sometimes feel a few strange things but its rare. The good...... the water is so murky whatever it is I would not see it until it's right there taking a bite out of my arm...👀
  7. I agree Carolina...The Sournia, compostied made or a 300 dollar SS Military Spec.(shielded) fitting..both are going to make noise. Time your hunts with the tides....and the current conditions.
  8. All Metal hunting only Out yesterday, water was calm when I got there but by the time I was leaving white caps had started. Almost 4 hours, Not a lot of targets but seemed like the AQ was focused on all of the right ones. Never dug one piece of Iron which even I have a hard time believing. First gold came early in the hunt but the second gold ring was when the water started to changing. I got pounded several times by mild waves. Just big wide ones which really go over your head. Nothing like ocean waves where they rip your headphones off and take your scoop away....😳 And I am guessing some one is going to ask why did I not jump with the wave...Answer..I hunt with my eyes closed a good part of the time I am hunting.... not safe but I can focus on the audio fully.. Kind of funny, Rick had sent a email asking if AQ owners could post on Willy's question about the AQ coil and pinching the coil while the AQ is at full sensitivity to test it's shielding. I get to the beach. walk out to chest/waist deep and do the pinch test. AQ goes crazy when I pinched the coil..even my hand getting near it..I'm puzzled, maybe because my gloves are water soaked??.... ..until it hit me I had my lucky ring on, under the glove..🙄 Be out of commision a few days, grandsons visit before school starts. Maybe the last time I see them this year with the virus thing ....😞...they will be doing 2 day in and 3 days at home, online.
  9. It depends on where I hunt. Of the 8o or so beach's each has a pattern of targets that can be special to that area..... From religious medallions, half dollars, tokens, size of the fishing weights, Big gold rings, dated rings, dated coins...bullets, nickels...and the list goes on...When someone tells me they hunted in the bay ..........I can almost guess the area they are hunting by all of there target digs. And that goes for the conditions of the targets they found, I know the lower part where I hunt coins can be really damaged as to the northern area .......the coins come out fairly clean.......... And same goes for beach's up the rivers that feed the bay...Pattern, pattern, pattern..SO my nickel to gold ring count can go either way.
  10. That's a Good day out with a nice surprise! Me being a rookie at fresh drops I would have put those in the junk pile for sure.. Nice catch! And man I love that tester!
  11. Thanks Cuniagau! SO right..I am hoping he made it thru the War years..No info on the inside so a hopeless case. Thanks Seeker! Good Luck to you my friend. Thanks Compass! I am paying for it today...just can't get enough. Thank You... I bet your right Steve...Not only nickels but seems the AQ is nailing a lots of brass and other targets that fall into the gold range. Good for US! Thank You! Any gold is a welcome sight, it's like a shot of adrenaline. They are coming! Thanks Beach hunter! It was a surprise. Thanks Mitchel! Very crazy I have got maybe 100 gold rings from this spot since I found it in 2015, and it just keeps on giving. Not like it did the first year which got over 50...........but it still gives up the random gold.
  12. Conditions change daily .. The last two outings, same spot ..Water Salinity here is 28 to 30..considered brackish. Hunting waist/chest/ shoulder deep 2 hunts 08/20/2020...........17 gram Class ring, calm water..low winds..SE 4 mph Delay was 10 today, ATS I did play with but ended up set on 7, sensitivity was around 6, volume 8, threshold I did play with some also. But ended up just below 5, audible. All Metal only.. AQ worked perfect, Smooth 08/22/2020.......2....14k wedding bands...12 mph SE winds ..semi-rough water Delay 11.5....ATS 6.....Sensitivity 6, .......volume 8...........threshold 4-5 just audible ..All Metal only AQ ran very smooth after adjusting the delay to 11.5
  13. System and 12.5 coil are fine, and please do not detune the AQ.. Has either of those 3 heros of mine hunted "In" saltwater? I don't mean running the coil thru the saltwater .. Waist to Chest deep with the "AQ" at different locations for hours?.....I would bet my AQ No........See this is a common knowledge if your a "IN the water hunter".......... "Every beach" is different. And the conditions can change from day to day...Beach sand hunting conditions rarely change...once your in the water it's a ever changing environment. And what the "AQ is doing is common with all water machines...some places they work and others .........spots are difficult.. It's no ones fault other then the AQ was never subjected to all of the conditions of the world. And I believe that's why Rick made a special effort to spread them out... I can go on but it is simple..from my experiences over the years the little 8 inch is going to help, I hope enough to where I can say... I told you so..
  14. Looks like you had a fun time all around! Those coins really add up also..👍
  15. Thanks Buddy! i Love when I see those tides dropping. I'm sure you can't sleep either knowing what's coming. Thanks Mike! I It is so much like the excalibur in All metal your going to have NO problems at all. Thanks Okra! I'm very Blessed to say it is doing the job intended. Thanks Jim!....I agree buddy, I really think your going to love it... Thanks Buddy! Hope all is well and you see that AQ soon! Weird is I normally dig silver quarters But Nada on them this round. LOL, That's funny! It's a smaller size ring but it does have some meat to it. ..........And Thank You! Thanks Joe D! Having it Mid May really gave me the jump on learning how it operated. I think the time I spent testing was really was the key. It for sure has found a home, with the excalibur.
  16. Those were some well spoken words of advice seeing all the treasure he found. NIce!
  17. My excaliburs (VLF) and infinium had that issue with the coil connectors, ..One reason I went back to hard wired on the excaliburs..Also I found removing the control pod of the excal from the saltwater helps a lot also. Which I plan to do with the AQ down the road. Just need a longer coil cable so all fits nicely under the drysuit. Both the excalibur and the AQ share a lot of the same issues when it comes to rushing saltwater..But the AQ's audio is 2X what the excals is...... The reason I'm loving my audio cut off on the AQ...
  18. That's good news on the cover for the big coil, someone was just asking me about that...
  19. That swing speed is killing me also being the big coil is like a steering wheel. I think if we do see a 8 inch AQ coil it's going to be a Big help to all...
  20. Thank You! I would love to see the owner of this ring but it has nothing inside other then the fineness mark. So kool they have that up...least I get to see the possibles. Just looked 105 grads, not a very big class. On that dated ring I found.......... I was able to send out a email to one of the grand daughters but never got a response. Plus I posted on one of the pages she posted and asked the Admin to please contact her for I had information about here great father. Nothing. Thanks You for the information..joe
  21. Think I'm setting at 17 gold now with the AQ. Fully paid for and adding to the Bank account. I knew it would not take long for I needed deep......... and it is. Today's hunt was a get out no matter the conditions, been busy at home for a week now....... I checked the winds before I left and they were very calm. Water level is Insanely high, about a foot above normal. Conditions at this beach are fairly sanded in but there's always the chance for deep strays...First out .........things were very slow, but I came into area that held a few coins, slowed and listened. One hour and 40 minutes into the hunt I get a good strong deep signal. Six scoops later outcomes a Big boy, I figured 11 grams but with gloves I have a hard time telling. Happy I got gold ......I stayed a few more hours..... nothing much other than a Merc and rosey came up. What really gets me is how deep this stuff is...and for some reason it loves nickels, And I only hunt in All Metal. Delay was 10 today, ATS I did play with but ended up set on 7, sensitivity was around 6, volume 8, threshold I did play with some also. But ended up just below 5, audible. Just about all targets today were deep but gave good reports... I did chase a few ghost signals, which one turned out to be a dime. Only dug a few pieces of Iron, one I should have stopped....... after 10 minutes of digging ... Good Luck to all this weekend, Be safe..Joe
