For the AQ, do you think you might consider using something like a Zener diode based limiter with the Skullies?
Thanks TVR....
I could never get them to work on Piezo;s..I use to order my Audiosears speakers with the little guys..which they worked great on....But . I never really liked them for the would clip the tops off of some signals.. I think I've been thru every birdcage trying to get the very best audio...
The headphones work great for i can hear stuff no one else can, and that's with the excalibur. And they work great on the "AQ', but I may go deaf before the end of the year if I don't do something..💀
I had to look around to find a few from the old days..

From my earlier experience running the Garrett Sea Hunter, the reduction in depth from the larger coil (14x9) to the smaller 8” coil wasn’t nearly as bad I thought it would be. I believe it was in the order of maybe a couple of inches on average coin/ring sized targets.......that little 8” coil in rough saltwater was sensational and my gold tally increased significantly......it never came off again. I used to run a modified Aquapulse AQ1B and I recall similar results from the big 15” coil and then moving to the 10” coil. Leave the big coils for the hardpan and lower beach low tides 👍
I plan to fit out my TDIBH with a 10” coil.....as big as I’ll go for water work !
Tony I'm so desperate for a small coil I'm ready to take the little 8 inch off of the barracuda and try it on the "AQ"..😬

Joe, I thought that the main reason you liked the AQ was for its depth. Wouldn't you lose some of that depth with a smaller coil?
I just re-read some previous responses and my guess is that one may have to trade off a little depth for less noise and better coil control.
Yes.......... I would be giving up some, my guess is about 4 inch's but the amount of noise from a small coil would be so much less in the rough salt water it will make a huge difference. So you figure I get 19/20 on a nickel...it would go to 14/15..but then again we are in un-charter territory........... could be better.

That does not depend on Alexandre, El Paso decides what and when to deliver to Rick.
I was going to ask him to make me a custom one for I know he has made a few in the past. But since Fisher is moving forwards with it I will hold on that message.

I can tell you that the AQ will get a 8" coil. The GOLD will also have one (yet not interchangeable, different number of turn!!)
This will possibly be offered as an option to the LTD version as well.
There are already a few of them (as prototypes) out in the wild under field testing
Wow! That is Great News..Thank You!
I was in the middle of type a message to Alexander T on maybe getting a 8 or 9 inch made...I still may but I know he is a busy man, so I don't mind waiting.

P.S. talk about that Skullies please🔥🤣
Skullies ...Not made for diving unfortunately, (water resistant) and maybe not the best for the faint of hearing. Honestly, I don't think the AQ needs any help on the audio...I was considering a Audio amp, like Doc's Screamer but it would do more damage then good and that was before I had my "AQ"..So I think you will be fine with the stockers. I just like pushing things to there limits.
-
Three very short video's of the audio.
First is my scoop getting to close to the "AQ" and this can be fixed by turning the audio off as soon as I move the AQ to the right and not turning it back on till I'm Pinpointing again.
Second video is...I've moved the Aq to the right to get away from the scoop as I am digging but there is a target .......right there so I have to lift the AQ up to keep it from giving me a blasting signal from a shallow target. I have the same thing with the Excalibur but it's bearable..AQ the audio is intense!
Third video is....common with the TDI and AQ,,, as the AQ is going into the water it makes a swooping false...(It's adjusting to the conditions) ...........twice as loud as the TDI... ...once the coil is level its fine... ..........just trying to make my hunting experience more enjoyable with the on / off switch. Also notice as I lean it on it's side which makes it smoother.

Are you getting blasted because of the headphones you are using or are you also saying that you have to run the volume super high to hear the faint deep signals? That would be a major annoyance for me.
One thing I like about the CZ20 is that I can hear every sound the detector is capable of making without having to raise the volume above a comfortable level. I never get blasted by shallow targets or large pieces of metal.
It's the shallow targets that get me, and I guess you would say its a combination of the headset I use and the AQ's steroids volume. I use the same set of head phones with my excalibur and it is noisy also but not as intense. I'm very surprised no one else has had the issue of setting the coil to the side when they dig and getting blasted by a stray shallow target.
I'll go thru my hunt the other day and see if I can find what I am talking about. I did consider what Cliff had mentioned, the volume adjustment but then you loose the faint signals. Give me a few hours and I'll get a video up...

A seperate charging cable still means a battery protection circuit is needed, however, to guard against over-discharge, accidental overload/short-circuit, and possibly overheating. That is what the module pictured in OBN's post appears to show.
It's also wise to fit 'gross overload' protection on a high-powered pack like this. That would include a conventional one-time wire fuse, a thermal fuse, and possibly a self-resetting 'poly-fuse'.
Yes, have to have a poly fuse. .........I like these BMS modules they have a fuel gauge plug. Just have to see how much room I have once I get all together and maybe do a add on.

Joe, are you using a bms module inside the 4s1p tube?I hope not because....
I actually don't know if I'm correct but seems to be the easier combination for a self balanced recharge without the need of multiple solder and little cables around cells, not to mention the module itself presence inside the pod...
I'm developing a similar pack for the Tdi and can be the base for the future of my dreamed AQ...
With the red batteries........ no...they can come out and will be put on a charger then another set dropped in...
the other 4s2p yes

Above being said.................. the one problem I have with the "AQ" it's audio blasts when I move the detector to the side to dig and there is another shallow target under/near the coil........ I mean it is loud, and since I use the head phones I make (skullies) which the DB rating (sound level) is 15 plus over anything out there..............I get blasted if the "AQ" comes near the scoop, moving it a side to dig.... hitting another target..Or the AQ going back into the water......Not complaining, just one of my things that I've not seen anyone else talk of.... that I can fix..while I am making a battery for it.

Hi Obn .Do you know grave digger max because my friend here in Rochester made his titanium scoop at his welding shop when he had time for free.Hi is a great guy my friend. He made himself one too but the scoop to handle on his needs more strength for tougher digging. In plain sand it cuts like butter. He made grave digger a better scoop then the one he has.He sold his shop and is now retired.Poor fellow has not found gold since 4/2/2016.
Yes, Know Mr Max well..Good Guy with some good video's..........I need to get back down there and pay him another visit...been several years now.
And I do remember that titanium scoop, much like the starv's scoops...... it was detectable...Very nice too.
I had a friend who made me two titanium scoops in 2013?. Cost me 350 dollars for two, material and water jetting..then labor. Broke one and still have the other....titanium is nice but for the cost I prefer the SS. Titanium is not something you can hook up the MillerMatic and weld, takes a very skilled Tig welder..which I am not..
Your friends Scoop, very nice work ........

No problemo😉
Pointed questions or remarks can only generate progress and new ideas.
I know the whole history of that project from its beginning when it was still named 'Manta' back in 1990.
Since then, Alexandre and I have worked in closed team complementing each other with our respective technical backgrounds.
I still keep in close contact with the Impulse project (and with El Paso) while working on my own project(s) and I am happy to answer any technical question posted on THIS forum if it does not infringe the NDA I have signed with FTP.
Thanks Willy, Sorry if I was tough in anyway. I get fired up thinking about this stuff and want to start chopping things up and making changes. Everyone see's things different and being a hunter that is out there I see things that work for me, but have to understand everyone has different views and needs. Thanks for being here and helping as much as you can...Very Appreciated.

That is a nice looking scoop and perfect for those that do less time at the beach. And for sure the price is right.
I did not mind paying 225 for my 720 several years ago..., since I hunt several times a week ...... it's been long paid for and was a real good investment for me, I did later buy the carbon fiber handle which was up there also. But I do have a few places I have to walk a mile to get in the water, hard at first spending the cash but now I see it was a good idea. ....I wish all the things I have purchased over the years were as good investments..here is one of my digging tools that was not.... . think i've got 5 small gold using the blower. I do need to try more, only had it out 15 times....if that but really must be the right spot for use.

I think the worst part about showing USA trash items is that the rest of the world gets to see our poor taste in alcoholic beverages. Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, all those tasteless non-beers (Seagrams, Platinum,...) Coronas are the funniest of all -- it's not like there was any flavor in the original variety. Now they have 'light' and 'extra'. As if you could get any lighter, and extra what? Oh, and I see Corona Premier. ??? "Find your beach!" Well, at least you've done that.
Hopefully a little more on-topic: I saw yesterday that a tropical storm ('Fay') has developed along the east cost, starting (at that time) around Hatteras, North Carolina working it's way up to Long Island and then straight north through the heart of New England into Quebec (that was the projected path yesterday, anyway). Is that going to help you Middle Atlantic and New England detectorists?
Setting here now watching three spots very close...Low is around 5 pm....North or NW winds needed at two of the spots, the third is the last resource and looks like it may have the lowest tide. One gets the calling of the AQ, the other two the Excalibur. Decision will be made at 1 pm...
Looks like the "AQ" gets wet....
Three hours..........Now Home, ........Bleak is the word. ..think I dug 6 targets.

When I made head phones several years ago I got some coiled cables in that were tight and were only 3 foot. I though I got a deal at 3 dollars each but when I seen them I figured 10 for the trash can...But I got looking at them and the were so tightly coiled I did the same thing you did, but one step further. I headed them with the heat gun...after about two runs with the heat gun they were 4 foot long and looked perfect..with lots to spare. The things we do to customize are machines!!

You got out and was able to play some ...........that is all that matters. I think one reason I do well is most of the spots I hunt are 30 minutes average travel time. When you have a two hour drive you have to take what your served, I get bad conditions I just go somewhere else or go home.
Your time is coming, Fall- Winter- then Spring.. 💪

That's a lot of hunting and nice to recapture one that got a away. I hate unsolved mysteries when it includes something you just had in your hands............ I don't mind loosing a silver but it kills me when I loose a gold. I lost three gold rings last year. And only found one. One got knocked out of my sifter by a wave, gone. Second and third got stuck to my gloves ..........they were small...though they went in the pouch but they came back out with out me noticing......... Only found one of those and I recognized it right away. This time making sure It got in the pouch and zipped up..
All it takes is one hunter in the area and for sure he could find it, I lost a silver ring a month ago, hunting with the AQ..took a friend back to the spot..........he found it...I was glad, ................. it solved the mystery and he got something.

Since no one picked a 9 inch............... I'll call out for that, but at this point I'll take a 8--9---------10 is pushing the limit on swinging the coil in the water. I've noticed that it's hard to get the 12.5 up to speed in rougher waters. And with a smaller coil there will be a lot less resistance...........noise.........and better coil control......So 8 or 9 for me...

Feel free to laugh of my try to find a solution 🤣as it might sound crazy or at least stupid...
Can't be possible to create an outside connector shielding sock with a 3m shield tape? Something like a cable/connector glove to avoid direct saltwater contact with the area? Is it something to be necessarily fully waterproof?
I've already did that.....Several years ago I was experiencing lot of noise in "rough" salt water hunting with the excaliburs I used. Solution ..completely remove from the saltwater...I started running a longer coil cable with the Control pod and connections "under" my drysuit. So the only thing exposed to the rough conditions was...the coil cable coming from my drysuit, then the coil...........It was like night compared to day............Almost total silence in some bad conditions. See if I can find the pictures of me using and the setup.
I will have to find the post from last year when I envisioned the same with the AQ...
One reason I need more then one AQ..

Should we be running the sensitivity as high as we can get it for that kind of depth? I'll be doing wet slope and wading in the water for now.
What I do and this is the same with the Excalibur in PP....and Now the "AQ" .............you come across a faint ..stop..tune the machine for the very best response. Then the same with the very next target until you feel you have the greatest depth possible at this beach .
On 7/7/2020 at 9:38 AM, Jim in ma said:Yes that is it.
May I add a little to it, that disturbance in the wild a lot of the time is only in one direction but repeatable.
On this type signal I take 2 scoops and check pile as a small lead sinker will give the same response, if it is still in the hole usually it is a good target.
Amen to that Jim, how many times have you stopped...for that one way signal or even a ghost signal...dug a scoop..still not sure, then dug another ...and there is this faint hint of a target in the corner of the hole.

My Last Hunt
in First Texas - Bounty Hunter, Fisher & Teknetics

Sorry to see for it looks like you were getting ready for the big one! I like the quick response from Rick and Fisher..If you still have the machine check the power cable. I noticed twice now it had like a static electricity build up? A disconnect then reconnect it clears up...
Also check the volume, I had a few moments I though something had went...turned out I accidentally hit the volume...After me going thru all I seen the volume was low..So it was a false alarm..
And the AQ does run Hot! Some of the first test I ran when I was doing the battery testing...I did a temp test. Best to get to know every little detail for the AQ is like no other Animal.
Different areas of the control head..
91 degrees
131 degrees
109 degrees
All temps taken within a few seconds of each at different points on the head unit
