Designing a new mechanical system is a 'bit' more than tweaking a picture with Photoshop. This indeed looks nice BUT one also has to care about a lot of 'small' details like the costs and complexity of the tools to mold these plastic components and the way to assemble them to be sturdy and waterproof while keeping a light weight.
I'm sure there are a lots of little details but that's what it takes to stay ahead of the competition..
Take note once my warranty is over and if this virus thing does not get me, I will build a unit similar to the picture (I tweaked) out of Carbon fiber.

My Opinion...........They better move up with something more modern....more of a Carbon fiber look. ....And I don't think four 18650s are going to do the job, I'm thinking more (4) 26650's inline ..same battery the MDT uses..the new Fisher needs at least 8 hours hunt time to cover these young guys and who have endless energy, and not have to walk back to the car to change the batteries after 5 hours....And for the Old Goats like me have a insert that holds the (4) smaller (less weight) 18650 batteries.....I need to work for these guys....second though I enjoy hunting more.

Ok guys...I'm the real guy from the other forum who goes by the name of KOB. But here , I will go by King-Of-Bling. Which is what the name stands for and was given to me many moons ago. I have only been looking at this forum for a few weeks now and it appears it's a little more serious on the discussion side regarding hunting and detectors. As some others here may know me from elsewhere , I like to have fun and not always take life so seriously. Will see how it goes.
A little about me : my 1st detector was in 1970. Had to use 2 hands to swing it. Didn't really detect much often until 1980 , where being wiser (and stronger) led me to better finds. I live in So.Cal , though have spent time in Miami and Hawaii. Grew up as a surf rat , always loved the beach. My main go to machine is a PI. Though over the years have owned others. Most recently the Nox , which I sold. I don't have a lot of dirt experience like others do here. But the beach , well.... 1 of my mottos in life has been : You are never to young or old to learn something new. Anyway...Thanks for having me join....King-Of-Bling !
Ok we are going to need proof on this...KOB thing..😁

Early on I see the Halo of targets in the threshold of the "AQ" doing airtest..... so I've been playing with the settings to see if I can pull up more of the audio of them when out hunting in the water. Jim and I have hunted together before, a very good "old beach" hunter.
Video of those changes in the threshold Jim speaks of....

I could be way off the mark in saying this but. From what I'm reading and seeing in videos....it seems to me that those who have used the whites TDI and are familiar with it's sounds/characteristics are going to have the easiest time learning the AQ. I've owned 4 big box TDI's and one SL, the AQ sounds and acts a lot like the TDI from what I can see.
I agree!!....100%...The AQ is a TDI on steroids. And while comparing both the TDI BH was not that far off on depth..3 to 4 inch's on most targets. I do think the AQ has some quarks that we still have to figure out.......... that will give even more information on targets but I believe many will be site dependent. When testing both I did like the AQ better but I felt the TDI BH was a very good machine for the price.

I'm with you Steve. Took me one hunt to nail the Pinpointing thing which was rather exciting since Dew and I had felt the big coil would be a issue, then add hunting in the water and not being able to see the bottom...But all was easy, I thought. Now I do have to remember on the shallow targets to raise the coil or use the edge for they do blast. Also I have found If I am missing a deep target ........I just scrape the side of the coil thru the hole to locate it...Very easy.
Hunting is so site dependent that I think not to torturer oneself best to go slow and use the best machine for the job. I'm still using the Excalibur almost as much as I do the AQ... ......Hate to say but with things not going the right way it can quickly lead to a hate affair..😬
Good Luck!

Good report and Thank God we have another person who hunts in the water..
Quotebit noisy especially when swinging the coil away from the shoreline into deeper water
Try hunting "in to shore" instead of parallel with the beach...., then out.....going out is not as... but going in it's smoother and you can really hear the Halo's of deep old targets. Let me know if that works for you... also Pinpointing...... pumping the coil on deep targets will pull them up better so you can center them to dig. The problem lies you can only swing that big coil so fast in the water..so by pumping the coil to the left..(weak / disappearing signal) then to the center (strongest signal) then to the right..where it fades out...then I just pump back to the center (strongest) and do a little forwards backwards centering then.... dig... , like the wiggle wiggle of the BBS machines they can really come in stronger. A smaller coil would make it better for the........... in the water hunters...Alexandre.. :)

Out with the AQ Thursday 3 hours....... Skipping shallows and digging faints only at this location seems to be the best way to control the amount of trash. The one big piece of iron I did dig was shallow... The Buffalo, (191?) was as deep as I've dug in the place for anything, I would say in the 20 inch range.... It sure likes Nickels...And remember I hunt in All metal only..never switched over to mute this time..straight PI hunt only........... Gold ring is small, just under 2 grams 14k , 3 scoops deep..maybe in the 13 /14 inch range.. Ring never really gave a good solid hit so maybe it was on it's side? 10 gold with the AQ, 9 rings and 1 misc..Can't wait till fall hits and the NW winds kick in...☠️
Side note, This is the beach I'm so confident about the AQ being the best I had invited anyone that want to meet, over on the other forum. So far no local takers but did get a few from a distant that wanted to give it a go. Anyone is welcome.......... A very tough spot, Been hammered for years by just about ever machine made. Been dredged, mined, and Has High Power lines about 100 yards away. And if you noticed in the video I'm wearing a drysuit with dry gloves, during the summer. Water quality is not the best either so playing it safe..Still waiting for the Cygnus invite challenge also...nothing yet. Let me know, the door is open..
'
Second set of pictures are from the batteries I'm working on..should have something working mid July, still waiting on a few detail things. The main thing is battery life and fix the connector issues.
I really could do a much better battery setup if I were to change the shaft to a carbon fiber then mold a carbon fiber battery pack into the rear like the MDT...

Good report, You kicked butt for 2 plus hours...WOW! Lotta targets......No doubt from the pictures drysand is Nox territory, or VLF ...I think the "AQ" will shine for you this winter when the tides are low and you can slip out into the wetsand...Those are the hunts I'm excited to see for you. ..☠️

Joe, are You using the M12 8 pin type to adapt a coil on the TDI bH?
If You have any suggestion for a good one I'm all ears 😉
Yes a M12-4 pin SS 3M brand, but not on the TDI BH, that one belonged to a friend and I just sent it back. I put them on my excaliburs...I also used the Sournia a few years ago..just like the AQ..but I liked SS better.
Tonys endcaps 3rd picture, they are for the excalibur also so he can use a different set of HPs...

I know this has been asked before and I'm sorry if one of the current Impulse AQ owners has already done the test and reported..........But we've all seen the nails stacked on top of the ring and the ring on top of a pile of rings. What I want to know is will the Impulse AQ pick out the ring in a 3D scenario? What if a ring is buried 2 or 4 or 6 inches deep and nails are placed above and off to the side of the ring. Can the Impulse AQ still get the ring.
I was not real interested in the Disc side of the AQ (Just deep) but I did do a few test with crab pot pieces and the PVC pipe. I wanted to see the AQ would do in something I might encounter. I put one crab pot pieces down..around the PVC pipe..1 inch long. I tested before I put the ring in place and the AQ muted out. As I put the ring in place on the surface, I got a nice hit from the gold ring..as it went down the tube it hit the ring at two inch's but 3 inch's was fading....the odd is ...the crab pot piece muted when by itself but once the ring went from three inch's to four I got more pointed signal from the ring?.......Like it came to life with clipped signal. At 7 inch's that signal changed and at 17 when the ring was starting to fade I got a change in the audio of the crab pot piece like it was going to mute or was it muting already? ..So the ring does have a affect on...I just wish I had went deeper on the ring now that I seen the video...if it would have muted once the ring was out of range that would have told me it was getting the ring the whole time....
I think it will be something all of us will need to test, for my conditions are different then all others.

Carolina & Joe, how can we fix the power cable problem and what is that status of battery mods? Thanks,
Bill
Future AQ owner
I like that.."Future AQ Owner"
I'm close, I got a new cable ..a 90 degree so it's not sticking as far out of the back. Then today I got my 18650 Samsung batteries in...with a charger ...a BMS , 4 lead flat cable and some other things. Got tubing coming Thursday for both battery setups...So I'll have a Lipo setup that did not make the cut.........☠️........then the two I am working now ..one with 4 inline 26650 batteries, then a 18650 setup with 8 batteries..one will be 5000mAh, the other 7200mAh.. the only change so far in plans I was going to use PVC or CPVC pipe but found some clear tubing... the first ones I make I want to watch them close and make sure all goes as planned. Also I got M-12 8 pin fittings so the HP setup is a lot stronger.. I want to make the 8 cell 18650 setup to where I can seal it and just plug in the charger, then the 26650 battery setup to where I can remove the batteries and put 4 more in and put the discharged on charge. It's been slow but all is coming together. I will post pictures maybe this weekend to show the progress...then once done a full report ..on how to.

Joe, I don’t think you have had the control head or the battery three feet yet. I know how tall you are and you would need a snorkel or be drowned one.😂. That’s unless you have dropped it down. Even chest deep and a two foot hole it would not be three feet so I wouldn’t give it any worries. Like Steve said, it’s the power cable that’s the problem. Nice of you not to tell Rodney, class act.
For sure I'm shrinking...last measurements were 5' 9.5" Sad about that for sure.....The other day I let the AQ do a free fall from water level and found out the rear does not float..😬..battery is the sinker on the AQ for sure. It was close to three feet when he hit bottom........A few weeks ago I had it in some rough waters and that was more where I was impressed.
Rods a great guy, I did not have the heart to tell him and was glad he did find it for I had no clue what happened to it..Mystery solved.

I would try it with out the coil...just to see if it's calm

Another awesome hunt Joe!
One thing I always wonder, any issues with bull sharks in your waters?
Thank you! They Are around ..I try not think about that to much.

My guess is the AQ won't be leaving your hand anytime soon! Keep going!

Thanks Bill! ..Having the option of either really has made my hunting stronger. So both will see action as conditions allow.

That 14k Half Moon is beautiful.I love the back...Very cool ..
Although I do love finding gold and it does make for a happier trip home. I see the exercise and mental side of detecting as the most important..I think the time we were locked in place sure did not help most of us...I gained 10 pounds, but getting back down..5 more to loose..

Yes, I've had PI's before but this one compliments my Excalibur. I really feel I could not have a better combination.
