I would try different locations to see if the pb is specific to EMI at your home ... Usually the D2 is a stable detector

What Is Your Backup Detector?

Deus2 9 primary , Deus1 9X6 backup .. -
SECOND OUTING WITH THE DEUS2 WS6 LITE : Same area and same settings ( SENSITIVE ) . It has rained a little and the soil is a little less dry. Its time to start the D2. Just a few minutes after I find a coin weight ( poids monétaire in French , I dont know the translation in English). It was used to check a coin weight. Nice find ... 🙂 The next find will be a silver hammered coin dating from the 16th century ( 1543 ? ) 🙂 . The coin was deep and I would have probably missed it with my Deus1. 9X6 My first silver coin with the D2... 🙂I will try to identify it tomorrow .. During this 2 hours outing I will find 6 coins , 3 medieval coins and 3 more modern coins . Plus a nice medieval gilded rooch and other medieval artefacts .. The D2 is fun to use , it easily locates the good targets in the nails bed , and it is almost silent on the ferrous. It also goes deep , sometimes I even had to give up digging because of the rock-hard soil due to the dryness.. As I already noticed the D2 conductivity scale ( or the tones breaks ) are different from the D1 . Most of the targets tends to sound with high tones on the D2, even the tiny pieces of copper for example . I guess I just have to get used to this ... That was a very good day . Very happy with the D2 . I think I have found the detector I was looking for ... 🙂 A few pics : Back in the field ... : The coin weight ( poids monetaire ) : First silver coin for the D2 - a silver hammered coin - 16th century The silver coin with the WS6 : A medieval artefact ? : An other old coin - denier tournois - 16th century : A gilded medieval brooch : Time to go back home with a nice view of the castle : 6 coins found during this outing ... Not bad ... 🙂

3,5 lb heavier than the Deus2 Lite : CTX 5,2 lb , D2 Lite 1,7 lb ....

I have the same feeling concerning the reactivity too .. Future will tell
-
It is a ring then a quite conductive target due to its circular shape , then it is normal to get 20cm in the air for such a target with a VLF in the air I think ... But it is difficult to assess exact distances from a video ...

Minelab Manticore Unofficial Specs And Features Thread
palzynski replied to Chase Goldman's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
Perhaps because XP is eating their sales in Europe with the Deus2... Then Europe is the priority for ML at the moment ... -
How did you find the depth compared to the original deus?? --> I usually set 29khz on my D1 in iron infested areas to get a good reactivity on targets . The downside is a loss of depth on high conductivity targets like medium/big coins that "prefer" lower freqs like 5khz . The D2 FMF automatically scans the freqs from 5 to 40khz then I have excellent perfos on both small and bigger targets with it ... Did you buy this set up as a lite configuration or did you get the full deus set up with the ws6 backphones?? --> Lite config : I bought the W6 and a 9" coil ( 750€ ). The shaft is home made from a Quest shaft . Are you in the UK?? --> In France The deus package I purchased was with the wsii wireless backphones. I was initially wanting a deus 2 lite and was going to keep my deus 1 but since they did not offer that configuration yet here for sale....I just bought the package i mentioned. --> You have done a good choice ...The D2 pricing is now competitive vs the other brands , Nokta Legend , ML Equinox 800 Manticore etc ... And the D2 outperforms them in terms of detection cumfort/lightness .. Am now selling my deus 1. ---> I keep my D1 9X6 as a backup and also because it is a little lighter than the D2, and because it is still an excellent machine in plowed fields where the targetss are often near the surface I have used program 1 general and program 4 fast. i find the fast program on the deus 2 deeper than on the original deus 1. --> thx program 4 fast I will try it . For me 1 general is not reactive enough , it is a little too slow in the irons , it will be ok only in clean areas for me .. i like the full tone option with square audio. I find it more pleasant to the ears. --> I agree ...

FIRST OUTING WITH THE DEUS2 WS6 Lite : I have received my D2 lite ( WS6 headphones + 9" coil ) a week ago and I decided to go to one of my favourite sites in a field not far from a 13th century castle. I have been detecting there during 15 years with several machines ( Tesoro Silver Sabre , ML Explorer , XP Goldmaxx and Deus etc ) and I was curious to see if I could still find things there with the D2 ... This field is infested with irons because of its long human occupation since the roman , medieval and more modern ages , then it is a very good MD testing area ... The soil is moderately mineralized , at the moment it is very dry because it has not rained during 2 months ... 🤢 During this outing I have mostly used the SENSITIVE nr2 program which I found to be an excellent mode during my first D2 testings in March. I have spent around 2 hours in this field , and dug a lot of targets including 2 16th century tokens , a 16th coin and a few relics . The D2 is very reactive and has an excellent iron filtering , it goes deep even in this dry soil . I love the SQUARE tones which are extremely accurate and "crystal" clean on targets . Long story short it is by far the best SMF that I have ever used in iron trashed areas .. Irons are the XP's DNA 🙂... The only thing I dont like is the D2 multitone tones breaks which are different from the Deus1. For example when I set 5 tones on the D2 and 5 tones the D1 , a schrapnell sounds medium on the D1 and high on the D2. Which means that I have to reprogram the D2 to get the same audio behaviour between the 2 machines 😕... I would have preferred the same behaviour by default . Apart from this , the D2 WS6 lite is a very fun to use detector that I would recommend to anybody , especially for users hunting in trashy areas ... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The plus : - ultra light - fast and reactive in the irons - goes deep - excellent optional SQUARE audio, crystal sound ... - easy to use The cons : - the D2 and D1 multitone default settings ( conductivity intervals ) are different --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A few pics below : 1. The field : 2. The D2 9 coil mounted on a Quest Q30 shaft - the WS6 headphones - the showel and my rucksak 3. The WS6 headphones set on the SENSITIVE mode : 4. A nice Nuremberg token ( jeton de Nuremberg ) - 16th century 5. A medieval relic : 6. A medieval religious medal 7. A first coin -Double tournois from Henri IIII 1596 8. The night is coming ,time to go back home ... 9. The trash , mainly 1st WW stuff ...

From my standpoint I will use my D2 coils without CC , I see no reason why the D2 coils should be more fragile than the D1 ones , even if I know that I dont follow the maufacturer's ( or the seller's ) recommendations ... For me saving 50g at the bottom of the shaft makes a significant cumfort difference and I accept to take the risk ... Future will tell

The depth comparison test must be done in the same conditions of course . These tests are very interesting because you can try different modes/settings for a given machine or compare different detectors . For example you can easily see that a Deus2 9" goes much deeper than a Deus1 elliptic 9X6 coil on a big coin , or that they all have almost the same depth limit ( 12 inches on a big coin on my moderately mineralized soi ). I found these static tests to be reliable in the field . Deep detectors on static tests are usually deep in the field too ... The Ace 300 I dont really know this detector but I have just tried it a few minutes I cant put up with its "Hells bells" tones 🙂 And the Nel Tornado will definitely be too heavy for me if I remember its specs .. Cant wait to have the Manticore for a depth test ...

I never use coil covers to save weight/balance . I never had a a coil issue since I use XP ( 2007 ) then during 15 years ... However I dont live in a rocky area . In rocky areas I would probably use one to protect the coi ...

Thx interesting video at least it shows that the Multinator has a better iron disc than the Equinox on big ferrous ... But still no depth comparisons vs other detectors although it would have been very easy for those Polish guys to do one , at least vs the Equinox. Weird they all have carefully avoided the depth topic during the different Mcore presentations up to now ...

From my standpoint and my depth tests ( comparing VLF detectors on a big coin for example ) , the MLs that I have tested ( Vanquish , Equinox ) are very good but not better than the other SMFs like a Deus2 or a monofreq set on a low freq like a Detech Chaser or a Deus1 set at 4khz. I have not yet tested the Legend but I think it will be the same ... They all have around the same perfos , 30cm (12inches) on a 10g coin in moderately mineralized soil using a 11 coil) which is logical because the law of physics cannot be changed , even by ML ...🙂 Still waiting for a machine going deeper than this 30cm limit . I would be happy with a detector going at 35 ... Will it be the Manticore ? I only trust what I see ... Testing the Equinox 800 on a 10g coin at 12inches depth - a faint but clean signal :

50% More Power To The Manticore Coil?
palzynski replied to Erik Oostra's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
Which means that the Manticore handle + digital display is probably heavier than the Equinox one ( around +50g due to the additional 18650 ) . Hopefully the Manticore has a carbon shaft lighter than the Equinox alu shaft which compensates for this handle weight increasement ... 18650 tech info : Panasonic NCR18650B Pile rechargeable spéciale 18650 Li-Ion 3.7 V 3400 mAh | Conrad.fr -
50% More Power To The Manticore Coil?
palzynski replied to Erik Oostra's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
+3,8% means around +1,1 cm ( an half inch ) more depth on a big coin buried at 30cm . Then not a revolution . Looking fwd for the real life depth comparisons between the manticore and the others ... -
Rather around 2000 E in France , look above ..
