I will say, I feel like the Deus II is easier to learn than I thought it would be and I look forward to this journey. I really like it so far. ...

Yes the Deus1-2 are easy to use , even for new users . This because these detectors do the job for you , they perfectly filter the irons and they are very reactive and accurate on targets . No need to continuously "translate" what the machines are telling you because their language is very easy to understand ...

On the other hand I would not say that the Deus1/2 internal signal processing is simple btw , their softwares are probably quite complex with thousands of source code lines ... Their secret sauce .🙂..

...  This coin is worth patience cleaning since I read under 40,000 were made and under 200 examples thought to remain.  I don't know if I'd actually send it off for a professional grading, but this is the only coin I've ever found that would make sense to have that done.

I still can't believe what a rare and lucky find this was.  The curse is now I'm really thinking about other places with the right history where I can search to find more gold coins, haha!!

You know the coin value ? It seems to be a rare coin ...

Quick question……does anyone carry a power pack for quick charging if needed?  If so, which one do you use and how do you like it.  Appreciate it, thanks.

Any entry level powerpack will do the job . It is very useful , last time I discovered that my WS4 battery level was low just before leaving for a detection outing , and I decided to use the power pack to charge the WS4 during the car travel . When I arrived  , the WS5 was charged and ready to use ..

    I have a D1 but I guess it will also work for a D2 ..

    This powerpack is a 2200mAh :

... The only complaint I have is that I'm a Mac user and I hate windows because I'm not a computer guy who figures out workarounds. I'm an end user and not having a mac IOS to update sucks. ...

This was true 10 or more years ago . But since the 7 and now the 10 and 11 versions Windows is very easy to use and works very well . And PCs are much more affordable than Apple devices ..

You’re correct, he didn’t test each in gold mode, just what he considers each machines deepest settings. I don’t know about the Legend, but I found Field mode the deepest on Equinox.

Ok then these powerful GOLD/RELIC modes are a big plus for the Deus2 vs the competitors . They could be used to find deep buried coins of a coin spill for example .

There is a similar mode called PROSPECTING on the ML Xterra 705 which works very well and goes deep. It helped me to find 2 remaining coins of a coin spill a few years ago ...

When you make changes to the notched areas does the tones change to match the notching?

When I notch an area on my Q30+ I hear a blank instead of a tone for the notched target. This is what is expected from a notch function , no signal when the coil is swept over a non desired target ... No pb here for me , even if I never use the notch as I hunt coins and there can be very small to big coins over here ...

Then have you detected a little with the Q30 ? Whats your opinion about it ? thx

    My Q30 looks like this!

Then there is no tone break on the Q30 . I thought the wireless was the only difference between the Q30 and the Q30+ , I was wrong sorry ...

Do you really need this feature btw ?  I have never used it on my Q30+

..... Got handed a Stratocaster by Robert Cray at one of his shows! It was a cheap one, somebody stole the good one, and they had to punt. 🤬

I like Robert Cray , he is a great guitarist and singer . The 1st time I saw him was during an Eric Clapton "Crossroads" festival . I was not at the festival but I do have the 3 Crossroads festivals dvds 🙂 ...  Probably my best music dvds ...

Thank you for your extensive and detailed testing. I'm surprised you didn't summarize with Relic as one of your choices at the end, I used it on your recommendation and liked it a lot, buggy as it is.

    ...

Actually I could only test the D2 during 10 hours then I had just enough time to quickly test the different factory modes and not enough time to try other settings . I just tried RELIC a few minutes as it was too noisy for me but I will retest it when I have my own D2 as others like you seem to like this mode .

Do you use the IAR disc when you run the RELIC mode btw ?  thx

Appreciate the feedback.  I got the Legend and the D2 at the same time and figured I would unload the one I didn’t sync with, and honestly I was initially quite concerned about  the D2 because many of the posts I’ve read speak about how advanced it is and how it wouldn’t be a good “starter” machine for someone new to MF.  Turns out, it seems to click with me. Actually, the navigation on the remote is more intuitive to me than the Legend. So, now I have an issue, which is whether to sell my Simplex or keep it because I’m keeping both my new machines.  Lol, I guess there could be worse problems to deal with.

Thanks for your feedbacks too .. I had some concern about the D2 for beginners because they can be messed by the high number of modes and the 50 pages of the manual 🙂.... But it looks like you have quickly found the right settings good news ...

The D2 is so polyvalent and performing that I could just have/use that single one , but I will probably keep my D1 9X6 as a backup machine . Two detectors this is enough for me for  , I dont need a 3rd one as it will almost never be used ...

...  I have a mid 1800's house foundation that is full of old iron that I want to try but its probably going to kick my butt, as I don't fully understand how to set it up to filter out the iron and look for coins and such, but I'm going to give it a try.  ...

You dont need to set anything on the D2 in the irons , even the nr1 GENERAL factory mode works very well in the iron trash this without any change . This is the strength of the XPs ( Deus1 or 2 ) , the machines do the iron filtering very well and you just need to focus on the ( good) targets signals ...

Especially with the SENSITIVE mode that you have used and which is for me the best D2 mode in the iron trash

For those of you who have used both the 9 inch and the 11 inch coils on the Deus, do you notice a big difference in how it swings? I ask because I'm in a bit of a conundrum. On the one hand I'll be detecting mostly pasture/fields, but on the other I have a very sensitive shoulder that I need for my work as a chiropractor (ironically). I'm lucky as my dealer has both the 9" and 12" detectors in stock.

    What are your thoughts?

    Hu

I have used the D1 with both the 9 and 11 inch coils . The 9 inch coil is much lighter . I have a sensitive arm/shoulder too then I only use a 9 or 9X6 inch coil on my D1. Add to this that it is much easier to center a target with a 9' coil and at the end there is no way I would come back to a 11 coil ...

I guess it will the same on the D2 . I have tested the D2 with the 11 inch coil which I found a little front heavy . I have not yet ordered mine but it will be of course with a 9 inch coil ...

Maybe others will say it's some sort of incredible depth monster, but I haven't found that with about 20 hours on it. I really like it for what makes it different from the Equinox, but it's not depth:

    ...

I agree with that , the D2 is not deeper than the Equinox from my bed tests , except when using the RELIC mode .

But it is far lighter , with a much better and reactive audio especially in the iron treash , much more modes/settings , waterproof to 20m etc ...

Btw all the detectors have the same depth performances for a given coil size , I havent seen a VLF detector going significantly deeper than the others during 15 years testing . The depth limit is 12" for a 10g coin for all on my bed test ...

Still looking for a deeper detector  , but found nothing up to now . Any idea is welcome ...  🙂

...This is where I see the Legend having a massive advantage over the very coil limited Deus 2 and the also to a smaller degree the semi coil limited Nox ...

You could try a Deus1 , then you would have the coil set that you need including the excellent small 9X5 coil.
Btw there are tons of second hand D1s for sale at low prices starting from 400E/$ at the moment ...

I sometimes think we or at least I don't give metal detector manufacturers enough credit for how much work actually goes into making our metal detectors, I think this is partially because they seem to make mistakes with the most simple of things like shafts twisting on brand new detectors when doing nothing out of the ordinary or coil ears breaking because they're made of the worlds thinnest plastic for no real reason, really stupid things that gives the impression there must be some foolish people involved with development.  ...

Probably because there are more electronics engineers than mechanical engineers in the MD companies ... This is perhaps the reason why we often have mechanical issues with our machines ... ( twisting shafts , fragile parts etc .. )

Hopefully MD mechanical issues can often be solved by the users themselves ... For example replacing a twisting lower shaft by a carbon shaft is relatively easy to do .  It is an other story when it is an electronics issue and the detector has often to be sent back to the after service ...

I really like the Deus. I do think I would have done better with my Equinox, but this seems par for the course learning a new machine. I was surprised not to dig any aluminum save for one pull tab.

When you will get used to the D2 and you will know more its audio and you will dig less iron targets .  If you have never used a D1 it will take some time , probably a few months but this is a normal learning course.

btw have you tried SENSITIVE ?  For me it is the best mode in the iron trash , it is very fast and it has an excellent iron disc ..
