    Thanks Tom

I feel the Equinox probably could have found most of those targets. Although I have hunted over these same spots with the Equinox multiple times. Now did I miss them due to a better performing Deus 2 or did I just not swing over that particular spot with the Equinox in the past? Who knows.

The Deus 1 I doubt it, the targets were too deep and I lose most coin sized stuff at about 6" with the Deus 1.

Very nice video thx , congratulations for the very nice button  ...

I agree the Equinox goes deep in clean soils , same depth as the D2 to my opinion from my measurements ... But the D2 is lighter and more cumfortable to sweep , it is a big plus in the field  ...

May be a discriminating pinpointer like the ML profind 35 or the Quest Xpointer Max would help   to identify the big deep irons , this faster than with the all metal Mi6 pinpointer ...  I have never used a MI6 up to now then its just an idea  ...

Final: It was disappointing that the only time I tested the Deus was in fast water testing.  But the incompetence of the headphones was too much for me to overcome [shaft too]. I would of not really been able to learn anything from a new machine with the headphones supplied.
    ....

Probably the WSA2-XL headphones would be more suitable for beach hunting ( when they are available ) than the opened  WS6 , which are more designed for inland hunting to my opinion.

Thank you. I have a bad shoulder and after about 4 hours  it was starting to feel uncomfortable. i would say it's about the same, maybe a bit easy, not by much.

They have similar weights , 1,26kg for the Nox and 1,36kg for the Legend with probably similar coil weights , then no significant sweeping ergonomy difference at the end , this sounds logical  ...

Overall Performance, would you say the Q30 is better than the Simplex?

i.e. depth, separation, saltwater, falsing, discrimination, notching, etc.......

I would say yes , their electronics are similar but as I said the Q30 Raptor 11X9 elliptic stock coil is more compact than the big Simplex 11 coil , then it is better in the trash , easier to center the targets and a little lighter . The Q30 separation and iron disc are excellent . Saltwater I dont know ...

And I definitely prefer the Q30 modern black + orange look , very nice ...  From a discussion I had with a MD dealer they sell more Q30 Q30+ than Simplex over here in France at the moment ...

  5. XP DEUS2 11" ASSESSMENT ( after 10 hours field testing  /inland hunting ) :
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ( Updated on March 16th 2022 )

The Deus2 offers me exactly what I was expecting , the historical Deus1 speed-reactivity in the iron trash and its lightness , plus the Equinox depth and softer audio.  What else ? 🙂

    MY GRADING :  4,7 of 5  ( 19/20 )

    THE PLUS :

    - very good in the irons despite the large coil size
    - excellent detection depth

    - very polyvalent / all terrain thx to the FMF multifrequency
    - very light machine ( from 880g )
    - new performing and nice SQUARE audio
    - many modes and expert settings available
    - excellent RC and WS6 ergonomy
    - easy to use
    - RC IP68 protected to 20m
    - very convenient telescopic shaft
    - many accessories available : 9" coil , WSA2 - WSA2 XL -  BH01 headphones , MI6  , etc
    - frequent software updates available at xpmetaldetectors.com
    - etc

    THE CONS :

    - detector slightly front heavy with the 11" coil
    - expensive ( 1600e / $ )

SUMMARY OF MY DEUS2  SETTINGS :
    ---------------------------------------

    -   General detection moderately to medium iron trash - beginners :
            P1 GENERAL or P5 PARK

    -   Iron trashed areas :
           P2  SENSITIVE ;  SQUARE  , 5 tones

    -   Hunting deep coins in clean soil :
           P6   DEEP HC ;     SQUARE  , 5 tones

    Ok,
I admit, this has been the worst week in years, thanks also to the fact that I am now limited by law to hunt in very few spots on my coast among the thousands available before.

But preparing the Deus 2 in a scuba configuration for tomorrow morning, I'm really feeling like I've got it all wrong.

Wrong coil due to the only 11 "available, no need of the ws6 headphones and last but not least, this horror shaft lenght!

So the almost funny question is: how did You manage to dive with it?

Shorter lower stem's lenght doesn't allow to hunt without upper shaft falsing noise.

A turnaround would be to buy a S telescopic stem , shorten the aluminium mid shaft to your desired length and at the end you have the right tool for diving ..  Just an idea ...

I am hesitant to jump on any of the lists because I'm not sure which coil to get. If I knew for sure that they were going to make a 5x9, then I would go for the 11". If there is definitely NOT going to be a 5x9, then I would wait for a 9". I wish XP would make an official statement on the 5x9 coil availability.

The 9" is by far the coil the most often used on the D1 for inland hunting, at least over here in France  , then I guess it will the same with the D2...

For the beach it may be different , beach hunters probably prefer the 11" coil because it goes deeper and there are less irons than inland .. However I am not a beach specialist ...

Yes, that’s what I mean. When I had the ProFind 35 I had to be right on top of iron for the iron tone to engage, and by then I’m already distracted. It didn’t get the depth of my TRX or Tek-Point either, so I let it go, but I remember thinking that if it had more depth the iron tone might also see a bit further. The XPointer seems to be more of the TRX and Tek-Point caliber depth, and so I wondered if it carries its iron tone a little further out than the ProFind.

I havent done a side by side comparison between the Profind and the Xpointer , I would say that their disc abilities and depth are similar .

But the Xpointer is much more sophisticated than the Profind with an embedded lithium battery  much better than the outdated Profind 9V battery system....  And it has a digital display with very useful infos like the battery level and the sensitivity level , while you have nothing for this on the Profind ...

  9. I would say that the D2 is even better than the D1 in the irons  , especially when using for example the SENSITIVE mode.  The D2 electronics is more recent and probably much faster than the one used in the D1 ...

I agree Chase,  I have been surprised by the D2 11" coil too ...  It performs very well in the iron trash for such a big coil , then I guess that the 9" will be a killer  ... 🙂

I don't want to get them in trouble since they are the only ones trying to protect customers. I mailed them about it and they said this was the issue and they are waiting for it to be solved somehow before they sell them again. Maybe this is the reason they are 'out of stock' in some other places.
THe thing is, i sent the whole video of how bad it works to both Quest and the other shop where I bought it, and both said it's normal to work that badly. So I don't know if people like you have the same one I got or a differently working one.  I never had these issues with my Pulsedive, which has the full tip working, same as the other regular pinpointers, I suppose. In the video you can see i hold metal Against the tip's sides and it won't give any reaction. Maybe my 'pinpointer search style' relies too much on all tip and not just the front side. Apart from what I tested, it was a massive struggle to use it in the field since a lot of times I couldn't find my target with it. THe way it is mostly sensitive in front means I should search the hole with the front only.

thx for your answer ... Actually my dealer in France told me exactly  the same thing about the Xpointer Max : it doesnt work in the cold than he doesnt want to sell them any more .  Hopefully I could get one   🙂🙂 ...

I have used it in the cold , I even did a test at -4deg celsius , no pb ...  I could not reproduce any of the issues .

I really appreciate the battery level display and the embedded lithium battery on the Xpointer Max . On the other pinpointers you never know your battery level and you often run short of battery with them in  the field  I hate that ...

Not ever going to buy Quest again since the way they answered my complaints was 'you can't expect a VLF pp to work as any other pinpointer'. Then why is it praised by everyone on youtube, and the website says it's all good ? Seems they just put it on the market with a lot of bells and whistles and now it seems faulty in cold but no one tells you about it. Don't expect anything from them.

You can look up my video on youtube, and I also have a blog where I wrote stuff. Not sure i can post it here.

I am just discovering-reading this thread. From my standpoint I never had any issue with my Xpointer Max for inland hunting . It works very well , except as you said the buttons are a little tough to press . And the found the iron disc to be quite reliable , similar to the Profind 35 . No issue at all with the cold ..

For me it is the best pinpointer I have ever used with its iron disc , digital display with battery level  , embedded lithium ion battery etc  ...

However I detect only inland and I have never tested it at the beach . However I just did a short test on by sand bed test and it works very well ...

What is the name of the Dutch shop you mention in your post btw ?  thx

The battery level is HIGH on my Xpointer Max :

A test in sand + salt water on a 2g bronze coin . No pb , it is quiet on the sand and accurate on target .. :

.... Off the top of my head it seems like a discriminating pin-pointer would be useful. ...

There are 2 discriminating pinpointers available at the moment ,:

    1) QUEST XPOINTER MAX :
    QUEST XPOINTER MAX (metaux-detection.fr)

    2) MINELAB PROFIND 35 :
    https://www.metaux-detection.fr/fr/pro-find-35-c2x30847474

I own both of them . I have the Profind 35 since 2 years now and I am currently testing the Quest Xpointer Max . The Profind is a very good pinpointer but I prefer the Quest.  I will post a report on the Quest soon ...

From my standpoint I would never come back to an all metal pinpointer as the discrimination is a great help in the field for me  , especially for identifying big irons at depth ..

What do you mean by handset ?

I dont have a Simplex+ any more but I would say similar control box dimensions .

For info I have shortened my Q30 handle as it is a bit too long to my opinion . My custom Q30 handle is now 2cms shorter than the factory handle ... It is quite easy to do ..

    The Q30 factory handle ( too long  ) :

The handle after modif ( 2cm shorter ) . Its much better now ...

In Deep HC (modified) it is very deep on coins, especially in the silver range. As deep or deeper than the equinox. ...

I agree , knowing that the D2 is much lighter than the Eq , is much better in the iron trash ( for me  ) , is probably more robust from what I have seen , has a telescopic shaft etc ... But we are going off topic as we are not in the MD comparison forum here  ...  🙂

Can anyone tell me what the number 2 in the lower left corner means ? Also, my battery indicators for my coil and RC never ramp down. Both always show full charge until either just dies. Anybody else notice this issue ? Suggestions ?  Thanks in advance. That 2 is driving me crazy. 🤣

Weird my battery indicators are ok on mine and show the ramp down ...

I dont have this 2 in the lower left on mine

Perhaps you have an old soft version which needs to be updated ?

It is so interesting how each person has likes and dislikes. On Deus 1 my favorite and most productive modes are Pitch and Gold Field where I can hear every target in the ground and I learn a little about which targets to avoid. Disc IAR actually works fairly well even on a low setting for just slightly causing iron targets that are in range to have broken up tones.

Thanks Jeff,  I will try DEEP HC with disc iar set to 1 when I have my own D2 and see how it goes ...

26 minutes ago, Jeff McClendon said:

Did you really like the Square audio?

Yes it is a great plus of the D2 vs the D1 , I use it all the time now ... It is softer than the PWM audio while still very fast and reactive

26 minutes ago, Jeff McClendon said:

Also, did you have a chance to do any testing with just the WS6 used as “Master” and how is the WS6 user interface?

No I had not enough time for testing the WS6 as master in the field I only used it with the RC as master  . However  I did a short test with the W6 as master at home and it works very well . Actually I referred to your thread including G. Blackwell video describing the WS6 interface 🙂 , his video is excellent and helped me a lot ...

26 minutes ago, Jeff McClendon said:

Do you still think just buying the WS6 Deus 2 Lite is a good option for mostly tone hunters?

Yes probably but eventually I think I will buy a a RC and a WSA2 because I am now getting used to the RC and it is easier to change/see settings with the RC than with the WS6 ...

I'm definitely not interested in modern nickels. But modern nickels, older nickels, some gold rings and some buttons all produce the same ID, around 59 to 62.

Gold rings and buttons will produce a good and clean signal I think but you have to test . Copper bronze silver alu etc  produces a good signal at depth from what I have seen during my D2 tests . Nickels seem to be an exception for some reason ...

I understand what you mean but I relic hunt and yes I would like to find the older nickels and low conductors such as some buttons.

Dont mix nickels and low conductors , these are 2 different things .. My 1 franc 9g nickel displays a 70 VDI while the smaller coins displays around 50 . Then it is not a matter of conductivity .

If you look for buttons you should do tests with buttons . Have you done such tests ?

Anyway missing modern nickels coins is not a big deal for me , I prefer older stuff like the coin below 🙂 👍 that I just found 2 hours ago with the D2 / SENSITIVE mode ( I will give more details in my "Testing the Deus2 11" thread later  ) ....
