  1. And I ve just done the same test with my Deus1 HF 9X6 and the 9g nickel . Same result , the nickel sounds scratchy . Would like to do that test with a Vanquish or an Equinox but I have not these detectors any more ...
  2. I have just done a few air tests with the D2 11" and a 6g nickel and 2 smaller copper and silver coins and I confirm that the signal is sometimes scratchy even when the coin is close to the coil with at least the GENERAL , SENSITIVE , PARK , DEEP HC modes .. It seems to be specific to nickels because I did an other air test with 2 very small half grams coins and the signal is perfectly clean for them ... I also did the same test with a Quest Q30+ and I had the same results , scratchy signal on the nickel and clean signal on the 2 others ... Then there seems to be something special with the nickels , not really an issue for me as I prefer to hunt old bronze or silver coins rather than modern nickels , but I am a little surprised by this ... The 3 targets , two small 0,5g copper and silver coins and one 6g big nickel : The signal is scratchy on the nickel , while it is clean on the 2 other much smaller copper and silver coins, weird ... :
  3. Ok I understand better now . You have an issue with Deep HC low conductors ( nickels ) tones/IDs . I didnt do that test I will try that on my bed test
  4. Personnaly I did not see any differences between the D2 and the Equinox on my bed tests ( a 3g bronze coin at 6" and a 10g copper coin at 12" ..) For me the D2 and Nox depth perfos are identical or very similar, and I have very clean tones at depth with my D2 . But my soil is moderately mineralized. Is your soil mineralized ? That could explain the difference .. I use the GENERAL or DEEP HC factory modes , just changing to 5tones SQUARE
  5. The Q30 is much better than the Vanquish in the irons ( where I detect the more often ) . However the Vanquish goes a little deeper deeper in clean soil with better id at depth to my opinion .. btw I am not surprised that your dealer now sells Quest because they are great detectors ..
  6. The shaft is ok as long as you are too tall ... It is not crappy it is just a little too smal for tall people like me ( 1,83m ). But there is an optional longer mid rod if I remember well . I am looking fwd for your feebacks at the beach , I am sure that you cant go wrong with the D2 ... HH
  7. Mercedes are not cheap lol ... 🙂 🙂
  8. 2 coils for the D2 avail at the moment : - round 9" - round 11"
  9. I would have added : 7. Light & easy to sweep 8. Reliable
  10. 1. XP Deus2 2. XP Deus1 3. Quest Q30+ 4. ML Eq 800 5. ML Vanquish 540 My kind of hunting : coin hunting , inland , moderately mineralized soil , medium to high iron trash
  11. Deep HC , I have not yet used-tested this program in the field as the manual states that it should rather be used for good conductivity targets , and personnaly I look for all conductivities incl lower ones . Then for me DHC looks quite specific with its max 14khz FMF freq ... btw I havedone static depth tests with it and yes it goes deep .. I will try it during my next outing thx...
  12. Very nice finds , congrats ... Apart from that I noticed the relatively short coil range ( 7 or 8 hours ) too .... Hopefully the RC range seems to be much more important ...
  13. 6) BACK TO THE WOOD WITH THE P2 SENSITIVE MODE : ----------------------------------------------------------- Eventually I decided to go back to the wood to spend a little more time with the D2 on the nail bed with the P2-SENSITIVE mode that I found excellent during my last outing . As before , I decided to use the SENSITIVE factory mode just changing the tones to 5 TONES and the AUDIO to SQUARE. As I said above the area is pounded and it is very difficult to find new targets here .. I have spent a little more than one hour in the wood , keeping on learning the Deus2 SENSITIVE audio which is quite different from the Deus1 , especially when using the SQUARE audio. I have found quite a lot of targets . There is now no doubt that the D2 can find targets in pounded areas and I like this "super power" feature ... 🙂 My aim today was to find something older than the 5Centimes 1966 I found last time . Actually during the first hour I only found 1st WW trash and I was a little disappointed . Hopefully during the last 15 mn I found a very nice 25 Centimes 1914 and just after a thin medieval copper coin but very corroded . Not bad to find 2 coins in this irons mess ... Conclusion the Deus2 has performed very well again here with this P2-SENSITIVE mode 👍 ✌️. Probably the FAST mode will be very good too , I hope I will have the time to test it before I send the D2 back to its owner ... Back in the wood and the nail bed : A first coin , with the help of my Quest Xpointer Max pinpointer : It is a nickel , a nice 25 Centimes 1914 : A medieval copper coin , very corroded 8 PM , its time to go home , after a short pause at the little town center ..
  14. I agree the D2 RC navigation is sometimes tricky. For example there are some audio parameters in the OPTIONS item , and the others are in the MENU item . For example if you want to change from 3 to 5 tones and from PWM to SQUARE as I do , you have to first do MENU DISC EXPERT for changing the tones , go back to the detection screen, then OPTION SELECT TYPE_AUDIO to change to SQUARE. It is a little confusing it would have been much simpler to have all the audio options under a single menu ... Not a major issue for me , I am used to this now and I will save my programs when I am a little more experienced with the detector then no need to navigate anymore ...
  15. btw the thread title is confusing , it should be named : Deus 2 Not Detecting Rolls of Quarters Very Well instead of : Deus 2 Not Detecting Quarters Very Well which implies that a Deus2 cannot detect a quarter coin , which is obviously wrong ....
  16. Because I dont see any major weakness with the Deus2 up to now : 1) it is very fast and excellent in the irons , even better than the Deus1 that was already a reference in the iron trash 2) it seems to go deep, deeper than the Deus1 ( I need to do a field test to confirm this ) 3) it has a new and excellent optional SQUARE audio which is softer than the little 'scratchy" Deus1 historical PWM audio 4) it is by far the lightest SMF detector available at the moment , especially with the 9" coil However this applies to my local conditions . Your local conditions in the US may be different with mineralized soil , EMI due to different power lines freqs etc ... The best thing for you would be to test the D2 before buying but it is not always possible ... Just my opinion ...
  17. Yes I would have said 1,5 feet ( 45cm ) max for a gold bar with the 540 . Then if they are at 2 feet or deeper you will probably miss them .. Just my opinion
  18. Thanks . The farmer has just plowed the field yesterday ( see pic below ) then I cant go back there before a few months ... My next outing will be in a forest for deep coin hunting where I will try GENERAL , PARK , DEEP HC and RELIC ..
  19. 5) TESTING THE DEUS2 11" ON A NAIL BED : --------------------------------------------- After having tested the Deus2 in medium iron trash conditions , it is time to go to the next level : the high iron trashed areas ... I have a dedicated testing area for this , a wood near a small town where the soil is infested with irons and pottery fragments dating from the medieval ages up to the modern times , then extreme conditions. As I use to go here since 7 or 8 years for my tests and as the wood is quite small (around 200X100 yards) , the area is pounded and there are very few targets left. Then it is really very difficult to find new ones .. Especially with big 11" sized coils ... This time I have decided to use the WS6 headphones with the RC as master . Which means that I change the settings on the RC , the WS6 acting like simple wireless headphones .. With the RC in my pocket to save weight as usual. Testing the P1 - GENERAL mode : Ok lets go ... I start with the P1- GENERAL mode . I am a little surprised because it works very well in the irons for a "general" detection mode 🙂... This Deus2 FMF is really fast and it outperforms ( for me ) the other SMF detectors in the trash even when using this basic detection mode . Testing the P2 - SENSITIVE mode : As I have not much time I decided to change to the P2 - SENSITIVE mode that I have already used during my previous outings . I immediately noticed a difference , this mode is faster than the GENERAL mode and it is better in the trash. As usual with my XP detectors I use the factory modes with just slight changes of the settings ... The PWM audio is very efficient but I preferred to change to SQUARE which is softer and very efficient too .. I also changed from 3 to 5 tones as I need a little more target audio info. I definitely like this SENSITIVE mode because it is quiet between the targets and very accurate-fast on targets ... 🙂 ✌️ For me it the most performing mode in the irons. I found a few targets with it including a modern 5C modern coin see pics below ... Testing the P3 - SENSITIVE FT mode : I have only quickly tested this mode but I found it a little too noisy compared to the SENSITIVE mode. Testing the P4 - FAST mode : Only a quick testing with this mode too but I am not a great fan of the PITCH audio then back to the SENSITIVE mode .. CONCLUSION , THE WINNER IS ... 1ST ) SENSITIVE 2ND ) SENSITIVE FT & FAST 3RD ) GENERAL The Deus2 11" showed very impressive results during this test , finding new targets easily in this "extreme area" , knowing that the 11" is a big coil and that the results would have probably been better with a 9" coil. Now I have no doubt that the XP Deus2 is the best machine I have ever tested/used during 20+ years detecting, especially in the iron trash where I spend most of my detecting time ... 👍 🙂 Note : As I had not enough time , I did not test the PARK mode I will test it later ... A few pics : On the way to the testing area : The testing area : The Deus2 with the RC and the WS6 headphones : A 1st WW French cartridge : A very small target , perhaps a rivet : The SENSITIVE mode is a performer on nail beds ... : It is a 5 centimes 1966 French coin , I would have preferred an older one , but a coin is a coin 🙂: And the trash :
  20. I have tried IAR , but when I increased it I noticed a depth loss , then I am not convinced by this setting ...
  21. XP will probably solve this alternate screen display issue . As I said , it is not a pb for me because my D2 RC is always in the pocket except when changing settings. But I understand others needing to see the RC screen ...
  22. I have just updated my "4) DEPTH TESTS WITH THE DEUS2 11" above post because there was an error in it concerning the RELIC mode : The RELIC does display the target VDI then it definitely HAS a visual discrimination, this as long as the target is not too deep ( too close to the target max depth limit ) . Look at my updated above post for more details thx ...
  23. I will try to GB again and let you know . Btw it is not a big issue for me as my soil is not mineralized then the D2 factory modes work very well without having to ground balance anything ... 🙂
  24. Of course it is easier to center the targets with a 9" coil ( like the Orx 9") than with a 11" coil ( like the Deus2 11" ) . This is why I always use a pinpointer with a 11" coil . Btw I never use the detectors pinpoint function I prefer using the cross method ... I am looking forward for your feedbacks with the D2 differents programs , I am sure you that will like it , it is really a great detector ... 🙂 🙂
