  1. Sorry this ring definitive model is a little too expensive for me at 45000$... Unless CARTIER offers special discounts for detectorprospector forum members... ๐Ÿ˜„
  2. It would be interesting to know the number of units per model sold by each brand/manufacturer. Then we would have a clear idea of the winners . Concerning ML , their last 2 VLF detectors , the Equinox and the Vanquish , are very good machines . They have done a very good job , so it is logical and normal that their business is going well ...
  3. Hi , From my standpoint I find the Equinox a little too complex for a beginner. I would personally go for a simpler machine Then you need to define your detecting conditions : - do you detect in the water ? --> then you need a waterproof machine - do you detect on high mineralized soil ? --> then you need a ground balance setting - do you need a light machine or has it no importance for you ? etc .... And yes take your time before buying ... HH
  4. Vanquish 340/440/540 for all size silver coins in woods , and Deus/Orx 9 HF for small / very small silver coins in fields with iron trash
  5. Let us say 15 inches . To obtain the value for a target buried in the ground substract 30% , this gives 10,5 inches ( 26cm ) estimated in the ground . The Equinox 11coil depth is around 11 inches , so their perfos seem to be similar ...
  6. It was in 1998 , I was 36 years old. Me and my cousin we joined a friend who was detecting in a wood close to my house. My cousin was digging and I was guiding them in the wood. At this moment I remember having thought " hey this stupid hobby is not for me ..." . However a few weeks later I decided to give a try and we went to Paris to buy a machine. It was a Tesoro Silver Sabre MM for me and a Tesoro Amigo for my cousin . Still in the hobby 23 years later ... ๐Ÿ™‚
  7. My todays short outing in a wood near a small town with the 540/V10 . A feudal coin at the first signal ! ๐Ÿ™‚ VDI +6 . I have not yet identified it but it is probably a 12nd or 13rd century coin . I have already been there with other machines , and I missed that one ... I always use my Vanquish in woods because it is more accurate and a little deeper than the Deus ... I was also using my new Blackube rechargeable lithium batteries . Definitely a very good machine this Vanquish ... ๐Ÿ™‚
  8. I agree with the above posts , I very often use the ALL METAL mode on my 540 and if I had to choose between a 340 and a 440 I would go for the 440 just for this single feature ( dedicated button on the 440 ). If you add to this more features like more volume segments , disc segments levels etc , this with still a low price , the 440 is clearly an excellent choice .For example there are only 3 levels for the audio volume on the 340 I found it not accurate enough to adjust it at the right level. Concerning the audio tones and tones breaks , I only use ( hear ) them as an indication , but I more rely on the screen VDIs which are of course much more accurate than the 3 audio tones in terms of identification .
  9. Hi , if you have a high iron or aluminium trash density then probably the smaller coils would give the best results because big coils tend to overlap several targets at the same time ( which is called iron masking in the case of iron trash ) . The Equinox with the 6coil is very good in iron trash , the Vanquish with the V18 or V10 too ... And it is much faster to center/pinpoint targets with small coils than with big ones .... HH
  10. Yes a S shaft reduces the tilt of the detector under the wrist, so it is always better to use a S shaft rather than a straight shaft. Concerning the F75 ergonomy I have tested a T2 a few years ago , although it has excellent electronics it weights 1,57kg without coil cover compared to the 1.26lkg of the Equinox .Even if the T2 is well balanced you have still the inertia of the machine to sweep that it directly related to the weight. So the T2/F75 is not the best choice in terms of sweeping ergonomy to my opinion. The Vanquish with a V10 coil weights 1.2kg , it has a good ergonomy with the light V10 coil ( 360grams ). This ergo can even be improved using lithium batteries and carbon shafts . But the lighter machines at the moment are the wireless XPs Deus and Orx ( 0.75kg for the Orx 22 HF )
  11. Just one more thing , in addition to the piece of foam I also replaced the nimh batteries with lithium so perhaps the lithium have solved the pb and not the foam . This because the lithiums are lighter than the nimh so less intertia , then less subject to moving in the housing in case of shock .... Let me know if either the foam or lithium solve your pb ... HH Alain
  12. I had the same issue , power shortage after setting the detector down. I suppose that the little shock between the detector and the ground slightly moves the batteries in their housing creating a micro power shortage. So I have added a piece of foam between the batteries and the cover to block the batterries , see pic below. I did not have any more the pb since I use this trick...
  13. Actually I mainly used my Equinox in Multi, this for max depth on small and big targets on low/medium iron trashed areas . Monofreq I already have a Deus HF that can run from 14 to 50khz , which is 500grams lighter than the Equinox a huge difference in terms of ergonomy. So I have no real interest using an Equinox running in monofreq for what I am doing . Yes I have tested faster recovery speeds on the Equinox , but even at 7 or 8 it is outperformed ( for me ) by a Deus/Orx running at 30or 50khz on my very high iron trashed areas ,typically European nail carpets which are very specific and cannot be found elsewhere in the world I think , not at this iron density level anyway ... Concerning the Deus/ORX and Tesoros I was thinking to the Lobo ( called Redoutable in France ) which is a very fast detector . But there are other examples , Teknetics like the T2 are G2 are also fast detectors which work very well over here . Also it is not only a matter of recovery speed but also of iron filtering . On ultra trashy areas a Deus is almost silent and only beeps on good targets , like a Tesoro Lobo or Teknetics T2 , it is really impressive... If I use a ML multifreq like the Equinox or the Vanquish at the same place it is an other story they are very chatty ... So usually I use the Deus for high iron trash areas and my Vanquish for lower ones , but I like the Vanquish and I also use it on very trashy areas , as I have years of experience with the ML multifreqs "fluted" tones . My second detector was an Explorer XS that I bought in 2001 , a few years ago ... ๐Ÿ™‚ My Explorer XS , north east of France . Summer 2004
  14. Small coins at less than 4" in thick bed of iron trash are a very frequent situation over here in Europe , however people here use monofreqs detectors like the Deus/Orx or Tesoros, rather than multifreqs machines like the Equinox . I think because multifreqs are slower than monofreq machines due to longer calculation time , and reactivity is the key on iron trashed areas. However these situations are very specific to Europe with very old grounds with thousands of nails , pottery, and so on ... And on these terrains the Quests with a medium or small sized coil could do a good job , again I will try to get a X10 or Q30 to do some more testing ...
  15. Actually I could only test the Q60 during a few hours , so I had not enough time to fully experiment the differences between Park and Field but if I remember well there were no important differences between them . To summarize for me the big plus of the Q60 is its audio which is similar to the tekntics T2 or the Tesoros , very fast and reactive on targets with excellent iron filtering , for me better than the Equinox on iron trashed areas. Just they dont have the right coil at the moment with this bulky 32X25cm coil .. . On the other hand I will try to get an X5 , X10 or a Q30 for a field test . If they have the same audio than the Q60 then they could be very good machines for the price . I know that my seller has good customer feedbacks on the X5 and X10s .
  16. I have tested the Quest Q60 for a French MD shop 3 months ago in Nov 2020. Briefly it is a very good machine with a great audio , fast and very good iron filtering . Switchable freq 4 , 14 , 20khz. And a very nice and robust design . However Quest has had the bad idea to deliver it with a very big 32X25cm and heavy coil ( 520g without coil cover ) . This coil is OK for relic hunting in clean soils , but it is too big for coin hunting in trashy areas for example, and not very funny to sweep , at least for me .... A 28X18cm coil or 22cm round would have been much more polyvalent and lighter. For my kind of detecting ( coin hunting / often trashy areas ) , the Q30 which has a smaller/lighter coil would certainly be a better choice ... Full Q60 test link below. In French . I hope that the Google English translation will be understandable ... ๐Ÿ™‚ TEST QUEST Q60 DISQUE 32x25 (metaux-detection.fr)
  17. - 60% Deus 22HF - 40% Vanquish 540 V10 , a few times with the V12 and the V8
  18. I have just received from Amazon my 4 rechargeable AA Backubes that I will use for my 540 1,5V regulated , 1850mAh capacity which is less than the stock ML NimH (2500mAh) but still ok for me. Weight 18grams , much lighter than the ML Nimh ( 28grams ). Nice product , my rating 8/10 . I have just to test them on the field but I am sure that they will do the job ... ๐Ÿ™‚
  19. For the moment my Apex is back at Garretts because of a false signals issue ( see the corresponding thread ). So I cannot say I am happy with it ... I know I am not the only one with this issue ... So at the moment my rating is closer to 0 than 10 ... ๐Ÿคจ This might change when I get back the machine , I will redo all my testing procedure at this time and let you know .
  20. I would choose the Vanquish 340 because you get a detector instead of a single coil , So you have a backup machine or you can lend it to friends etc . And the 340 is an excellent detector btw ..
  21. I use F2 , I did not see much difference between f2 and Fe ... Is there a difference btw ? ๐Ÿ™‚
  22. I only use the ML80 wireless headphones. I dont use the WM80 wireless module because it frequently drops out ( loss of signal ) then it is not reliable ( for me ) .
  23. I have ordered the Blackubes on amazon , I will receive them in a few days . Mine are 2775mWH --> 1850mAh . Expected run time on my Vanquish : 7 hours . 7 hours is enough for me , I will recharge them after each outing
  24. Last news .... Summary of the situation , I have sent back my Apex to my seller in Paris a the beginning of December because of false signals. My seller called me today saying that some of his customers ( in France ) have the same pb as mine ( false signals ) . Concerning my machine he said that I should have an answer very soon from the Garrett Europe support. As I have been waiting for 2 months now the delay is quite long , but with the covid everything goes slowly and I can understand that . Hope that the issue will soon be solved ...
