  1. For me the Quest Xpointer Max . It is compact , it has an iron disc ,a very useful screen display , a li-ion rechargeable battery , a very useful OLED screen with the battery level and other infos . It is very reliable too . The best pinpointer I have ever used
  2. Not bad for a clad euro ... 🙂
  3. Hawaii, not bad for a 1st beach outing ... 🙂 Splendid pics and a nice story ... Thanks CPT
  4. And it is now available in France : https://www.maisondeladetection.com/100-detecteurs-quest ( Look at the page bottom )
  5. For nails beds I would suggest to use a very fast detector like an XP deus1 or 2 , a Teknetics G2 ( Fisher F19 ) , Tesoro Lobo supertraq etc . These machine have been designed for high iron trashed areas , they are easy to use and they will do the right job there ..
  6. I would add to this an internet site dedicated to the NFD90 where we could see the specs , price , manual etc .. It would be a great plus for this machine and its potential sales ...
  7. I dont really agree with this . I will dig everything in an interesting area , but a multitone is very important for me because it provides for example target size infos . If I have a low tone , I know that it is a small target which will be shallow . If I have a faint high tone , it will be a bigger target deeply buried and I will dig a bigger hole to avoid to damage it. Honestly it is very difficult to come back to a monotone machine when you are used to a multitone one , and I only use multitone detectors since my ML Explorer in 2002 ... I have an other question about depth . At what depth will the nfd90 detect a big coin ,say a bronze 10g coin ? this in clean and mild soil . Just to check that the nfd90 can be used as a polyvalent detector and not as a very specialized detector which can only be used in very specific situations ( nails beds ) . would be nice if you could show this in a video . Thanks ..
  8. ysabxe , the disc results obtained with the nfd90 in the video are impressive . However I noticed that the nfd90 signals on targets are a little too slow or elongated for me. I like fast signals on targets and I would have preferred more reactive signals like with the Orx. Second I would preferred to have a multitone than the current monotone . 5 tones would be a good choice I think . I dont know if these changes can be implemented on the nfd90 , or on a next version .. Just the experience from my foxhole too .. 🙂 btw is it possible to order a nfd90 from France ? thx ...
  9. It depends if weight is a concern or not for you . Clearly a 570g coil is a no go for me , I only use very light coils as I hate heavy coils . This is the reason why I just have the 9" coil , even the 11" is a little nose heavy for me ..
  10. I am not surprised , a 2 box system size is much bigger than a 9" or 11" coil , then it is more sensible to electromagnetic interferences ..
  11. Thanks Jeff I will try to do some tests to see if any change between V1.1 and V2.0 on very small coins from 0.5 to 1g using the SENSITIVE mode, as it is the only mode that I use at the moment ..
  12. Very interesting test thanks Jeff . I am not a nugget hunter but I am interested by performances on very small coins that can be found over here in France. And your test shows a significant improvement ( from 30 to 40% ) for targets weighing around 0.5g ( like your gold burundi coin ) between D2 1.1 and V2 ... I often noticed that my D2 was less sensible than my Deus1 on very small targets btw , good news this might have changed with the V2 .. 🙂 I will try to set a 1g coin bed test when I have some time available to measure the depth change with the target buried in the ground using V2 and a coin mode like SENSITIVE
  13. Personally I prefer the square tone , it is more "musical" and softer than PWM which is a little too agressive for me . Anyway I appreciated to change my XP audio after having used PWM during hundreds ( thousand ? 🙂 ) hours since my Goldmaxx in 2007 and my Deus1 in 2013 .. Congrats for your gold ring , its a good start with your new D2 ... 🙂
  14. No , I have exactly the same experience ... 🙂 I found the air separation tests to be not reliable and I ve done lots of them ... For example , a Vanquish is better than a Deus on an air separation test . In the field it is a completely different story and a Vanquish is much more difficult to use than a Deus in my local ( French ) iron trashed areas ..
  15. Very nice video where we can hear and see the MPV3 in the field . And Merrill speaks clearly and slowly I can understand almost all what he says .. 🙂 However I would not use his procedure consisting of changing temporarily a setting to check something , because it is time consuming and because you can break a button doing this hundred of times . I never change my detector settings in the field , except the volume .. I will watch this vid again when I have a little more time , as this MPV3 seems definitely very interesting ...
  16. Looks interesting , what are the specs of the NFD90 ? especially weight , power system ( batteries or lion ) , controls , etc ... Any user manual ? thx
  17. Old man-made iron items in mild ground as we have plenty of them over here . Mostly nails . They exist since around -600 around here , then a total of around 2600 years of existence , since the celtic ( -600 to 0 ) , the roman ( 0 to +500 ) , merovingians ( 500 to 700 ) , medieval ( 700 to 1500 ), etc Not even talking about 1st WW trash with its shell fragments etc It is impossible to avoid them here and I am wondering how a GPX would react on them , my experience with a GPX4000 was rather negative as I said.. However I have no experience with a 2 boxes system and I am just curious to know what kind of system would be the more performing on a coin hoard search for example ( say 0,5kg or 1kg coins at 60 to 100 cm depth )
  18. it depends on what you mean by toughest terrain . In terms of iron trash , Europe has certainly much more iron trash density than in Australia , and is very probably a much more difficult soil in terms of iron separation . A specialist told me that the 2 boxes dont pickup up small parts of iron , while a Gpx tends to detect a lot of them . Personnaly I have tried a Gpx4000 a few years ago in one of my favorite fields ( infested by irons ) and it was almost unusable because it was detecting too much iron targets .. Looking fwd to a side by side comparison test on a big target ( a coin hoard for example ) between the Xtrem and a Gpx ..
  19. Would like to see a video of the NFD in the field too , to have an idea of its audio in field conditions From my experience I noticed that it is relatively easy to obtain excellent performances for a detector either for separation or depth on a bed(home ) test . But I noticed too that in a few cases that an excellent detector on a bed test was unusable in the field ... This probably because the reality is more complex than a bed test , especially for separation tests ...
  20. thanks F350 , I am using the "old" 0.71 version as it still works very well for me 🙂. I use the SENSITIVE factory prog with very little modifs , I have only changed from 3 to 5 tones and PWM to SQUARE . I dont need to set a notch as almost all conductivities can be good targets here , may be except for very low ones like the foils range . I will try V1.1 later when I have more time available btw . 90/100 of the trash over here is 1st WW trash . Not 18or 17th musket balls but 1st WW bullets shells . I am not a 1st WW specialist but I have friends who are "militaria" hunters , they hunt 1st WW buckles , buttons , etc ... ( French or German ) . Probably similar to what can be found on your US civil war battlefields ...
  21. thanks Lodge Scent .. These trees are poplars , they have been planted may be 7 or 8 years ago . They grow quickly and they like humidity . It is an ideal location for them because there is a brook just behind them ... The brook explains the human presence too . Most of the antique sites are located near brooks or streams as water was of course very important for them ..
  22. SECOND OUTING IN THE SAME FIELD : ----------------------------------------- I went back to the same field a few days ago . The weather was much better and I could spend more time in the field . Found 7 coins , 4 worn medieval copper coins ( 15 or 16th century ) , 2 modern coins . And probably the most interesting find , a very small Roman coin ( called "minimi") located with the help of my Quest Xpointer . This Roman coin is probably dating from around +400 , the coin size shows that the economical situation was very difficult at this time , probably because of the barbarian invasions coming from the East ( Germany and further .. ) . A little piece of history ... For info my D2 settings : SENSITIVE , 5 tones , Square audio - ( version 0.71 ) A medieval buckle : My pinpointer was a great help to find this tiny coin ... : A minimi , the smallest Roman coin : A total of 7 coins : A medieval castle at the back :
  23. I went to one of my favorite sites 10 days ago . I have been there since 2002 or 2003 , and I have done dozens of outings here and I am quite surprised to still find targets in this field 20 years after ... The conditions are not ideal because the field is not yet plowed , and it was sometimes difficult to sweep the coil in the cut wheat . I was using my DeuS2 WS6 running in the "old" 0.71 version but honestly I dont really need to update as 0.71 works very well for me and as I dont need sophisticated settings I only found 1st WW trash during the first part of the outing . However as I was going to leave I heard a very clean medium signal which was a very nice medieval silver coin . Very nice find ... This is a feudal coin which is much more difficult to id than a royal type because there are so many existing types . It is dating from between 14 to 16th century I think .. May be a foreign coin Anyway happy with this very old coin coming back from the past .. A few pics : A stormy weather : The medieval coin : my trusty Deus2 WS6 : A few better pics from the coin : And the trash :
  24. Ok for the 9,6 X 230 thx . I like the Profind 35 and its iron disc , but several times I have had issues with the 9V battery going off in the field . Never had such an issue with the Quest Xmax with its embedded Li on battery which lasts much longer, with a very low discharge rate when not used compared to the Ni MH . Actually I was never confident with the Profind 35 battery system , this is the only reason why I changed for the Quest . I dont like the 9V battery connectors too , they are outdated to my opinion . For me it is just far more friendly to recharge a device using an USB cable like on all of our smartphones for example .
