I believe the the TPU coil bumpers on Ebay are 3D printed as well. I've seen that quite a few water hunters have just spray painted their coil covers a bright color and they seem to work fine. Cheap and easy to touch up as needed. Just a thought.

Plasti Dip is my choice. Is very durable but will peel right off without a trace. Comes in several colors like orange, green and white as shown. Also no metals in the paint which is vinyl I believe.

Thank you all for the brilliant suggestions, but unfortunately the WS6 (puck) has stopped working.. I'm after headphones that'll work without it.. I'm not sure I want to go further down the wireless road even if there were headphones that worked without the WS6 contraption.. I'm even willing to settle for wired headphones that'll plug into the control box.. Being wired to the Deus II won't be a new experience..

For me the Deus II is a fully wired detector anyway, with its tangly antenna wire and its stiff plastic lead for the bone-phones it's a wired mess compared to the Equinox and its cute little audio thingy with its dedicated headphones which can be used wired or unwired.. Unlike my 'wireless' Deus II this way of doing things has never failed me..

I rarely use headphones of any kind but they do occasionally come in handy on windy days or against loud background surf, especially when I'm using the speakers on the Deus II control box which for me are hard to hear on the best of days (even with hearing aids).. Can anyone recommend plug-in headphones?

The two mini USB connectors on the 3 way cable and the cable for use with the WS6 puck are the same size and type = Mini USB. The difference is the actual exposed lengths of the connectors. The connector on the single lead is definitely a bit longer.........so I am not sure where the USB B and C reference is coming from. The connectors will both fit well in the WS6 port.

Where the confusion is for me (or XP may need a different English language translator/proofreader) is what is printed in the manual and the included Erratum single sheet that came with my Deus 2. The Erratum pages shows using the single lead cable for charging and data update of the WS6 as opposed to the manual showing updating the WS6 with the single lead cable on page 30 and charging the WS6 with the 3-way cable on page 38.

Deus 1s used the 3 way cable for charging the RC and the WS4. The single lead cable was for data update of the RC but I used it for charging it too.

So, who knows.........I have charged my WS6 with the 3 way and the single lead and they both seem to work fine for just charging the WS6.

I agree mostly with what you say. To me though, there must be a reason they went to the added expense to provide the single charging cable if there was no issue using the three cable. As you point out, the different lengths, maybe more contact area on the contacts have something to do with it. Anyway, I think a lot was lost in the translation as you mentioned.

Mine has some wear on the non rubber washer side ear.  I salt water hunt and wash very well after each hunt.  I have the coil as tight as I can get it without breaking something.  The lower rod also has severe wear on the non rubber washer side.  It has to be happening during the hunt on sand as I do wash unit very well after each hunt so it can't be wearing from lots of sand left behind while I'm land hunting .  The coil moving just 1/4" can cause wear when sand is involved.  I did buy the Anderson carbon fiber shaft and it uses washers on each side.  I bought it because the washer side of the Deus shaft looked great . So I'm hoping I have no more wear issues .  The shaft itself feels great.  A couple small mods and it's ready to go.

Interesting the wear pattern. Seems the bottom of the ear is the tightest viewing the wear pattern. I think you will have no more wear with the new shaft set up. Thanks for the reply and good luck.

I looked ahead of time. Of the three phones you posted I can only tell two of them: dodiddlies, and Serious. Neither of those phones have "NRR" specifications listed in advertisements, nor ambient dB rating.

Here are the only production phones that accept the Ws6 that I know of, are dB rated and state so. -24dB.
    https://highplainsprospectors.com/products/detector-pro-gray-ghost-xp-platinum-series-wireless-headphones-for-xp-deus-xp-deus-ii?gclid=Cj0KCQjw2MWVBhCQARIsAIjbwoMtJm6_Legs5IUuFAqcKUDSQWzcj98gzliKCQBdktN2T4XO4ayW-WwaAgEIEALw_wcB

I have found what I want for 25 years. I use the Original Black Widows [-28dB rated] with Audiosears [speakers] Connected directly to the detector.

The black widows are fine phones and the Audiosears are commonly used in many more phones. I believe they are 32 ohm speakers. I think you must do a little more research to find the NRR rating on all three phones shown. Good luck everybody.

I did read the manual the same as you did...but you would have thought the 3 way cable would do the RC,Coil and Earphones like it says in the manual (see picture below). I can tell you there is no chance of any damage to the puck whatsoever and if there was, who would be to blame...

    charging.png

Hi UNOX, Yes this is correct. It clearly shows as you point out that the three dongle charging cable charges the RC, coil, & the WSAll, WSAll XL head phones. It also charges the Ml-6 & MI-4 pin pointers. Then it clearly shows the single charging cable charging the WS6 module ( puck ). The WSAll phones and the WS6 (puck) are two different things. If you read carefully you will see this. Also previously (if you read) on page 34, it clearly shows the WSAll & WSAll XL are (phones) sold separately which have built in electronics ( don’t use the WS6 puck ). Also on page 44 ( Accessories ) it shows the WSAll phones for sale. Also as your red arrow points out the three dongle has a min. “B” connector and the single charging cable is a “C” size connector which is slightly bigger. That is why the three dongle keeps falling out of the puck. I assume the three dongle was used with the Deus l and they added the single for the new WS6 puck. I admit it is poorly written and you must read very carefully all the info supplied in order to charge properly.

That is not the decibel rating I am talking about. I am referring to the ability of the headphones to keep out EXTERNAL ambient noise. None of the headphones you listed have that ability.

BTW, a good rating is around -28dB.

SO IMPORTANT, to keep external noise out while beach hunting!

All the phones I listed have NRR ratings. That is known as NRR, noise reduction rating not db rating. 28 NRR is about as high as any phones give. 17 NRR is about the lowest. It basically relys on the thickness of foam inside the muffs to get the NRR. There are noise canceling muffs for fire arms a bit better but not for our sport. Wish you luck on finding what you want.

I own one of these. After using it 3 times it came apart at a seam that it hard to see but it separates near the LED screen and mini connector so that those parts and the wiring can be installed. I just glued it back together and it still works fine.

I have not found it to be vastly easier to attach to the two XP Deus coils that I own than the stock charging clip which certainly had something to do with it falling apart.

So, the voltage reading going to the coil is a great feature and I think this clip is a viable alternative. You just might need to have some super glue with you if you are depending on this clip when on the road hunting for days and/or when charging with it away from home in general.

Mine blinks on and off as you move the connector. Not sure if normal. I didn’t like the note push hard to connect and it still does not seat all the way. I would not recommend to a friend or maybe I got a lemon.

To heck with this cheap recharging crap.

I am simply getting a jumper cable made to run my favorite QUALITY headphones.

I am not sure why anyone would buy any of those cheap non-Db rated headphones to put the puck on. [for beach hunting]

I can tell you how many failures I had with my Equinox wireless in 4 years. Zip, Zero, Nada. Because I was connected directly to the pod with a jumper cable!

The phones I suggested all have dB ratings and by no means are cheap. One set is rated at 131 dB and that’s pretty damn loud !!! All I have done for 40 + years is salt water hunt. I have just about got it figured out lol. I also have hard wired phones of my choice for the water so until my WSA ll XL phones show up, I’m as happy as a pig in mud. As always good luck everybody.

I am not to fond of my WS6 phones either,  found that I have to pull my ears through the gap between the ear pad and stem to make it even bearable. I have trouble charging my WS6 with the supplied 3 way cable, the part that plugs in the module is much shorter and just falls out while attempting to charge them. Going by the book I have to use the single cable to charge the WS6 module, but the annoyance with that is I now have to use 2 chargers if I want to charge them all together unless I wait for the coil and RC to finish first then swap out the cable.

Just these little things that they pay no attention to detail with is really annoying, especially considering the premium price tag. Getting a little off topic but I have also noticed the coil cover is paper thin and very flimsy its nothing like the older Deus skid plate.

I count myself so lucky not to have all the issues with my Deus ll. I have owned an 8 bank charger for years and years as many detectors from Minelab I own and others, did not supply one cable with several dongles for phones, and machines so no problem. I also read the instructions first and never tried to charge the WS6 puck with the three way as the instructions tell you it is for the WS4 & WS5 so forcing it into the puck probably results in damage of sorts. Anyway I’m loving my Deus and thank the good Lord and did as instructed and read the entire manual before I started with the detector. Good luck everybody.

That's what mine did.. first it refused to power up with the detector and I'd have to start it manually.. Now it won't start manually anymore.. I'm using the bone-phones on the beach for now but does anyone other than XP make wireless headphones for the Deus II? Or even wired head phones that'll plug into the control box?..

guess you did not read my post. All accept the puck. Detecting DooDads, Serious Detecting.

I've reached a new low with the Deus II.. Today the WS6 headphones stopped working.. I hardly ever use the things as they're bloody uncomfortable but I find the speakers on the control box hard to hear, especially on a windy beach (even with my hearing aids).. But all this is besides the point, that's now two bits of the Deus II setup which have failed.. In comparison, nothing of the Equinox setup has ever failed me - and it gets a much rougher treatment as I tend to treat the Deus II with kit gloves for fear of things breaking or falling off.. As I've said before there's nothing sturdy or tough about the thing.. I know the headphone issue has nothing to do with the physical build of this detector but I put any disaster (mechanical or electronics) in the same basket: they tell a tale about its overall reliability and trustworthiness.. I can't rely on it to do its job without worrying about what's gonna fail next..

I know that XP Australia will replace the WS6 as soon as possible.. Good for them, soon we'll get to know each other on a first name basis.. One day we'll have a great laugh about all the bone-phones, headphones, coils, shafts, control boxes and antenna wires I've needed to replace over the years.. Until the warrantee runs out, then I'll be off their friends list..

I’m sorry to hear all your troubles and hope they get ironed out quickly. I saw the back phones as a joke when I first opened the box and have never used them. I have a set of phones from doodads that the WS6 module fit on that have never failed me yet. I am on a list for the WSAll XL phones but the doodads work fine in my salt water environment. I wonder if it’s the phones or the WS6 that failed? Although I have a third party CF shaft, I have had no issues with the stock shaft as many have. I guess I have been lucky. I also have never had the RC come off either shaft but I do have vet wrap on the handle built up quite a bit, below the RC that prevents me from sliding my hand up into the bottom of the box. I suspect that is the cause of so many knocking the RC off it’s mount. I have a friend that uses a bungee and it also knocks the box off. I have coiled my antenna wire and installed inside the shaft and also wired a set of MSA muffs with piezo’s I installed for water detecting when over knee deep. All and all I love my Deus which in my book is leaps and bounds over my Equinox 800 in every aspect. Guess I was just lucky. Hope all things work out for you. Good luck everybody.

How's it working out? Was thinking about doing the same and just saw your post.. Once that antenna wire is out of sight, the D2 would almost be back to being a true wireless detector.. Out of sight out of mind..

It works just fine. The trick is to coil the antenna wire like the CTX so it can collapse for storage and transport. Good luck to you.

If I'm thinking of the same person, it took him 3 years to finally try/buy the CTX....

Personally, I haven't had my Tarsacci out since buying the D2 but I won't sell it.

    Cliff

Yes the same guy and the same for me and my Tarsacci , have not used it since the Deus arrived but will keep it for now and the same for another friend of mine who can’t lay the Excal. down. Anyway very nice ring.

  15. 1 hour ago, cdv said:

I'll have to admit, since the first gold ring that came in as an 86-87 on the screen, I have dug and joked about it every time I dug a zinc penny signal.. Well, last night expecting a tink tink tink in the scoop after seeing yet another solid 86, I got a clank clank clank when shaking the scoop. 7.3 grams of 14k rose gold. My guess is about 200-300 pennies in that span but melt value alone on the 2 rings makes it worth it, in my opinion. Especially when signals are slow to come by.

Thanks buddy.....  I'm just a stubborn old goat. Who has problems changing, I have a couple friends with D2's, sooner or later I'll know answers. And even then,.... if I don't see these guys producing ... I may never change....

Well you are old !!! I just hope everyone down here buys a new NOX and maybe a Legend, they are much better machines. 😇.

You know I seen that single side rubber bushing on the D2 a few weeks ago. Looked strange but I never put it together. Good Luck and keep us informed.

Have you been deep with the D2 yet? Just wondering, one of the guys up here had a 11 inch D2 and he said it was chatty. But he did just get the machine.

And I agree with Mid-Lake, movement is grinding. Maybe some kind of shaft stabilizer on the D2, the list just keeps getting longer and longer.

The list for the Deus ll as you put it is much mirrored by your favorite machine I think. The shaft on the Excal. is most always replaced for a more conventional such as hip mount, behind shoulder or your favorite, over under after market shaft. The hard wired coil ( only two choices, 8”&10” ) calls for a interchangeable coil mod. The hard wired POS headphones also call for replacement or mod for interchangeable phone mod. The ever present control knob failure of the blue inserts is a reality that must be dealt with high priced Minelab replacements or third party after market replacements. Most always a battery swap to lipo battery packs and yearly replacements of control knob sealing O rings rounds out the list keeps getting longer and longer. They both fall very close in price also, with one with cutting edge new technology and the other 25 year old technology. Yet, this is your machine of choice, sooooo, don’t be so quick to write off the Deus ll. Yes it has its failures, but I tell you, In my book the Deus ll is a whole lot of bang for your bucks. I know in the beginning CD made a lot of idiotic comments directed towards you and the Excalibur, that probably did not help your reviews on the Deus. Don’t let an idiot run your fun with this machine. Give it a chance, in the long run, I think you will like it. Nobody has stuck behind the Fisher AQ more than you and I and it’s because you have taken the time to learn the machine and know where and when to use it. The same can be said for the Deus ll I think. Get up off some of that money you got and buy one 😂. Just keep it up in MD. and don’t bring it down here !!! I have enough top caliber looters swinging one now as it is. Look forward to your visit and take care.

I would check with the Gigmaster or he maybe he's the one?

Several years ago, Max's hunting buddy Kenny sent me his Excalibur ll that was having issues. And this was a machine just out of warranty, I guess he used it several times a week and never really took the time to check the coil and shaft's rubber bushing. Both sides were wore out and the shaft clevis had cut into the coil ears, bad. I checked the knob shaft o-rings on it and they were dryrotted..

Like said above, I think it is a matter of maintaining the detector around saltwater and sand.

I guess Kenny is Guru. Hahahahaha yes gigmaster is one of them lol. That man is rough on everything. I think he broke 4 or 5 NOX coils and three or four Nox’s. The other is mumbles man, another one of Max’s old hunting buddies. For those who don’t know, the Deus uses only one rubber washer on one side of the coil. What they call a spacer on the other. I think that will be a problem for salt water beach hunters. After all, the machine has three beach programs. You would think this would have shown up in testing.  I run a aftermarket CF shaft that the clevis uses two rubber washers, one on each side. So does my friend John who like me has seen no wear. I’m not sure that one sided rubber washer will hold up on the beach. We shall see. Keep in mind these guys have years and years of water hunting so regular cleaning is not the problem. Good luck everybody and thanks. You water hunters check those ears.

  19. Hi all. I have two friends who are both experiencing wear on the inside of their Deus ll / 11” coil ears. Has anyone else seen or heard of this ? Mine is perfectly fine at the moment. We are all salt water,  damp, wet sand hunters.

    Thanks

No, I get the tent stake double blip with the 8 1/4 setting. Never seen a nail yet except the test piece. I have not used mute.  Beechnut has I think.
