No company is in business for their health and all have to make a profit.

If I make a PI detector do I want to sell one are do I want to sell hundreds. I can’t make a profit even selling one out of a hundred then why bother with a PI .

If it’s some great detectors out there for under 1500. for land and beach then anything above that in price will be a hard sell.

You can always find some willing to go for the high dollar ones but again it’s volume of sales that pays the bills.

Looking world wide I think they will have no problem in the $2500 range. They have years of R&D as well as the only PI that accurately discriminates iron. I see a well used out of warranty gpx 5000 here for sale $2600. It took me less than a month to pay for my first AQ and nearly the same for my second. There may be a third once the new version shows up. Good luck everybody and stay safe from the virus !

  2. Well my 2cents worth. My AQ in tone mode will ID iron objects of size every time. When it comes to bobbie pins only circling the target will give the tell tale double blip not the broken or iron grunt. Keep in mind I am 70 years old and my ears may not be as in tune as others may be. This is with ATS 8.5 reject 3 or 4. I guess maybe I should do some experimenting with the ATS setting. I followed Alexandre’s video on maximum depth for tone mode. I am though very pleased with the AQ limited after a few mods. If you look at the cost of PI detectors from Minelab his price is within their pricing. Their machines however will not disc. iron objects as the AQ tone & mute mode does. This being said, I am not aware of the performance of the GPX 6000. Now there is a pricy machine I think. Even the 4500 & 5000 can hurt your pocketbook. I think the old saying, you get what you pay for might hold true for the AQ. Good luck everybody.

  3. I’m fairly sure the production model next to appear will not be digital. For me, I am quite satisfied with the limited and Joes battery with a M12 phone jack. I have several mods already on one of my machines. For those who hunt the water, sand and grit can play havoc with that cam lock. Either it is hell to get loose or hell to get tight. Here is my solution below. Good luck everybody.

  4. I myself can not be happier with my two AQ’s and in no way regret buying them. As a matter of fact I feel like, after a few modifications, I have a better built unit than the unlimited or whatever they call it. I’m not to big on the phones coming out the back of the control box and Joes battery gives me a nice M12 phone connection and plenty of run time. On top of that with only 30 or so out so far, it may become a collectors item. And as far as depth and gold, I have found none better for my area. So to each his own and thanks Alexandre. Also the service from Rick and First Texas is superb. Good luck everybody and stay safe.

Just curious how you know this is Joe.  Statistical argument?  ("Who else would be in the Chesapeake Bay at this time of year??")  No mention that the person is wearing a diving suit.  The "five minutes in the water" statistic implies he wasn't.  Of course the reporter may have had little information.  The part about someone thinking he may have been detecting (again, not the substantiated info a thorough, thoughtful writer would include) also seems to indicate this story was quickly slapped together.

Regardless, I hope the person recovers.  If it was Joe he'll have quite a story to tell.

    It is Joe.

Let me qualify that statement.  When you have a pulse that you are really familar with--that you know the feild size well on, and you hear a very faint, narrow signal that's round--there is a very good chance that it will be non-ferrous.  I can certainly do this with the Cuda--having run it for 30 years....

Quote: it’s true though a narrow deep pulse signal is always going to be non-ferrous — simple physics. This statement is much different than narrow signal that’s round — there is a very good chance that it will be non - ferrous. I also disagree that it’s simple physics. I do agree with your second statement partially that being there is a chance it will be non-ferrous. JMHO. Good luck everybody in 2021.

First out for the year, found a spot that has cuts that are over my head. I know how they got there but best I hold on that for now. One thing for sure targets are every where, on the top shelf, down the slope, and in the bottom. Just have to wait for a better tide so I can hunt the whole bottom and not worry about sliding down the slope. Most targets are shallow. First gold was maybe 12 inch's? Going to be interesting to see how long this spots stays intact-ed. I knew something was up and one reason I took the Excalibur for I had no clue on what I would be walking into. I am debating on taking the 8 inch on the "AQ" next trip. Seems to be no trash at all....

Three hour hunt, 1916 Class Ring and 1929 Class ring. 4 Silvers, which are eaten bad by the brackish waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Water is just dipping into the high 30's, full hunt I was toasty but Need to make some adjustments to my gloves, left glove is like wearing a sock.. No mobility.

So did you buy the coil or just still testing?

I think it becomes a big problem for the Fisher when Minelab releases their new detectors this year if AQ does not come to market soon.I personally saved money for AQ for a long time and it may go towards the minelab maybe, really sad.

I keep hearing snippets of Minelab releasing a new machine. Can anyone elaborate on this. That covers a broad range of detectors. Thanks

This is my first.  No one to my knowledge has found one of these.  Seems to be more for sleep patterns.  $299.... so it’s pricy too.  Ouraring.com is the site if u want to check them out.   Going to cost me $59 to buy a charger if I want to keep this novelty.  Many of the fitness watches are cheaper... but aren’t this waterproof.   Down loaded the app but it appears the battery is down on it... or at least I hope.  1 scoop so pretty shallow .... came in loud like a TI ring.   Ceramic so it’s light as a feather.

Hi Dew. Definitely strange. My thoughts. $59 for a charger to see if it’s the battery or toast ? Put it in your show case up front and marvel at it, and keep the $59. Nice.

    Hi guys!

Finally 2021 arrived and we are still waiting for the AQ.It would be nice if someone could confirm if the release date for the final product is still in April as i heared before?

I found a link for a pre-order of the final unit at a UK website(Joe Allen) but they have removed it.That was a bit strange.Any report on the 8 coil and even price which Joe do right now would be interesting as well.any comments?

I sent mail to Joan Allen weeks ago in reference to their add showing the LIMITED addition and £1000 pound price with questions to clarify their add. They did not respond.

Thomas.... since you have one... id be asking whats the price without the coil.   Why... might just help ya pay for that 12" lol.   Dimitar and Fisher are killing me right now.... neither has their coils out and we dont know when they will ..... nor the production model of the AQ.  This upgrade on the MDT was really needed for the real beach hunters..... and gives an option to the relic hunters.   I realize most arent in the water right now..... like we are here in Fl.   Crappy winter right now unless you want to dry sand hunt.

Hi Dew, guess he doesn’t want to sell it to me. He never sent me any info. Oh well, may be for the best. Wish you a happy new year and good luck.

Nice finds!  I'm also experiencing/struggling with the falsing on my Oregon beaches, in the wet (with the AQ).  I also get the falsing swinging one way than the other.  Using very similar settings as you.  Still looking for my first Oregon beach gold with the AQ.  Very slim pickings up this way.  Looking for those King Tides later this month.  GaryC/Oregon Coast

Try working east to west so that your swings are parallel to the water rather than working north to south which makes your swings east to west. Moving from wet to damp and damp to dry will give you a false signal.lower your sensitivity down to the suggested as Alexandre states you gain very little depth after settings 4 or 5. Also the earths magnetic field can evoke a response on the end of a swing as your coil cuts thru this magnetic field. I feel sure your issue is the the change from damp to dry and damp to wet though as well as trying to run a bit hot. Good luck everybody.

The volume control has not been working properly for awhile. Same amount of volume was heard on approximately the 2 through 8 position. Crackling static sound when turning it and now it is on loud as soon as the machine is turned on and slowly dies down in pitch until an object is detected and then continues loud again and then gradually goes down.

Good luck on the turn around time. I feel your pain.

I’ve been using the AQ exclusively since I’ve had it and already am missing it’s performance. I’m hoping I won’t have to wait a month again to get it back. If so then I would think FT should take care of us on the end term of our warranty by extending it accordingly. It’s the proper thing to do.

Do you mind telling the issue ? I’m guessing the volume control ?

Thomas..... i have NOT seen a final price .... but they have stressed its going to be much more expensive.  Thus the number buddy.   Im expecting it to be between $2200 and $2500..... but id sure be pleased if it was lower.  Id think they would be consistent with other PIs of this quality..... like the Aquascan, Garretts ATX, the ML PIs.  With Whites out of the game that could raise it to what i expect the price tag to be.  Then IF Joe does a battery for it.... add that.... AND id want both coils lol.  Adding Joes battery was pretty huge for the AQ too.   Fisher has made a pretty good investment in this machine.... so i also assume they would like to get that back quickly.  This has been a BAD year for business and Texas has been hit hard.

Mike im not sure thats a bad thing.  Had you been able to transfer that warranty .... now theres a deal enticer.  Plus the machine seems to be constantly changing for the better.

Thanks Dew. If they use the 4 drop in EBL batteries i think the run time will be fine. I doubt Joe would try and tackle a battery for this machine. His first battery for the limited was 4 EBL’s like the MDT uses. It had a good run time.

Clive i dont disagree..... but is it worth it to pay an additional grand for those not quite using it as much?   I do like the design that Joes showing..... im hoping Joe has a battery for it as well.   The 8" will be an interesting addition if the depths right.   I seen JoanAnn is taking pre-orders.  You know those are diehard hunters on that list with no expected time-frame out yet.... or they know some thing the US dealers dont?   Id drop a little money on a pre-order if it would give us a time-frame.   Especially with money being tight for a lot of hunters this year.  Ive been on a roll spending money on..... big projects around the home..... so whats a little more lol.

I’m curious where you saw an additional grand for the next version? I have not seen a price yet. Thanks

I’m waiting on the production model.  More info coming out on performance and of course quirks.   Which I’m sure are being addressed.  Sure do like Joes battery really has made the machine worth having.  Keep things standard....simple... like easy headphone connectors and the battery life Joe added.  Has that 6” coil that was expected in September came out yet?  Hopefully after the shots get out things can get shaking

I think it’s an 8” coil not 6” and I know it has been tested. To small for my liking so I have gone other routes. Merry Christmas Dew.

My first time out all I got was 2.5 hours before the red flashing low batter light started to flash and sound off.

My second hunt was 2 hours went I called it quits due to weather. I then did batter check at the end of the hunt, the light was yellow assuming I had less than 30 minutes. left. So my second hunt would have lasted no more than 2.5 hours.

Here are my setting:  Volume 8, sensitivity 5 to 6, threshold 3-4, ATS 8, reject 6, mode was TONE, delay frequency 7.5 for an hour and 8 for an hour.

I know the lower the delay frequency the more battery drain.

When I charge, it is full charge in 2.5 to 3 hours. I left it on for 5 hours just to be safe.

So my question is, what is your average battery life on your hunts?

Both my stock batteries gave me 3.24 hrs each. I do not use them now though.  All metal mode will drain your battery faster than tone mode so yours does not sound right. The batteries do drain down a bit when just sitting so I would charge just prior to your hunt. Beechnut offers a couple of different batteries and set ups if your interested. I know it’s a shame on the stock battery performance but just remember to charge just prior to use. Good luck and Merry Christmas.
