I have added the Zoom details on one of the other detecting forums. That was where Eric posted quite a lot from about 20 years ago when he first introduced Ā some of his first detectorsā€¦..Beachscan, Aquastar and Deepstar.Ā
I used to drool over those machines back thenā€¦ā€¦never had the money at the time. I did purchase the Goldquest SS around 2004 and found plenty of gold with it too.

I had asked Carl to take care of that and another on Friendly. Thank you.

Sturdier stem needed for 11 x 13 Ā to get better balance

I do not know, but in another video by Calabash, he says the lower shaft that comes with the 13x11 is sturdier than the previous lower shafts. Again I do not know. I would wait on buying another lower shaft until I tried the new 13x11 shaft. We shall see. As far as the weight ( 3oz ) ? maybe a coil centering device would negate this extra weight by shifting the coil back a bit ? Anyway, just a thought. Good luck everybody.

Iā€™m glad Lillie provided this. Iā€™ve been in contact with her and she gave me the Zoom details but Iā€™m glad sheā€™s made it public as I wasnā€™t sure if that was the case or not.Ā

She asked me to post in Ericā€™s behalf. You mentioned earlier you had recently lost touch with Eric. The last five months have not been easy for him. He had shingles, a terrible ulcer on his ankle that caused issues walking and had the need for a hernia operation all at the same time. It seems the operating rooms were tied up coupled with a shortage of nurses because of wage strikes.

This is sad news indeed. I worked with Eric a lot and had hoped to visit with him one more time but then Covid arrived. Eric's willingness to share his knowledge is a key reason Geotech was created and also why I have spent most of my time focusing on PI technology. He was not only generous, he was a very kind man. I will miss him greatly.

He spoke of you, many many times. I think you effected his life more than you know. Please see his service announcement on this page.

Ok, you have my attention. Very impressive. Do you always use a wetsuit this time a year or have you tried weighters? Do you always hunt the ocean or have you hunted the sound side? Are you in North Carolina or South? Thanks

Although I was born in Carolina, I live in Virginia. My mountain accent earned my nick name Carolina. May thru Sept/Oct I wear shorts. Generally then I shift to a dry suit without insulation until Dec/March.,with insulation and then transition back. 75 percent Chesapeake bay, 25percent Atlantic Ocean when water hunting. I own wet suits but rarely use them as my Kokatat two piece dry suit Ā is easy to don and duff. I think the waders would not allow a deep enough entry. Iā€™m sure for some they would suffice. I generally find more chest deep than waist though. Ā Thanks for the compliment and good luck.

  6. I understand your thought process. Save time digging all that junk, and there is plenty of it !!! That really pisses me off, why people use the beach for a garbage can. Pull tabs to diapers. They are just damn lazy I guess. This in mind, I am a water hunter. My notch program is learning to stack the odds in my favor, on how water classifies the targets for me. I am a water hunter 90 percent of the time. My dirt is mostly spent on Colonial sites. This picture is all a years worth of water hunts. My three main methods Ā of attack are, notch the iron, dig everything else and location, location, location. Gold can be found from 28 to 85 in this picture. Anything in this picture not jewelry was a stroke of luck and again use of all three methods above. Get in the water chest deep if you want to cut down on the trash and once you hit gold, slow down to a crawl. Work that area hard and use your feet to move some gravel and gain some depth. Gold tends to congregate close together in spots, at least thatā€™s my finding. Good luck everybody.

I don't hate my coil covers and haven't tried hunting without them yet. But I do clean a lot of dirt, sand, and other debris out of them, and in my mineralized soil, I have always wondered if that can affect coil performance.

Maybe if the coil covers had an open lattice design on the bottom it would still protect the coil and allow the dirt, sand, and debris to fall out... hmmmm....Ā šŸ˜

Get your drill out and start your modifications. Let us know how it goes. As far as gliding over the sand or dirt, I think that would be out.

I did have a request for some variations on the probe, one for straight blade which I will make a few in next batch. I never wanted to carry a screwdriver around, never know what people will think or say so wanted somethign low profile, durable and half descent looking.

The bend I put in was because I also use it to pry rocks up and wanted to have a small curve to also fish targets from under big roots, so far this version does both really well.

I dig with tip facing down to compensate for tough dry ground. Straight blade might work bit more like a screwdriver in that sense.

Thanks for all the good feedback on it!

    Ken

If at all possible I would like a 8ā€ curved version. Canā€™t find any at all though for sale anywhere. If you can message me I appreciate it.

So, from what I can tell, Irondigger is a USA based detector user that is hoping to go to a European site (wooded, plowed field, pasture, beach, mineralization??????) in the future and is asking what detector to take with him. So, which detector can he not take with him on an international flight due to lithium ion battery restrictions........?

How does that change the picture?

When I travel over seas for detecting, I send my detectors packed on UPS or Fed X to my hotel. Their always there ready and waiting. No problems so far. Just a thought.

That's probably going to take another 10 years .. šŸ¤£

I've been very close getting a Deus 2.. I guess its clever to wait, even if its hard ā˜ŗļø
Up to now I'm not 100% convinced with neiter machine.

The Deus ll is the real deal !!! ( JMHO )

  11. I do not push my coil, I swing it left to right. A slight twist of my wrist raises the leading edge and it slides quite easily. So itā€™s a left right twist of the wrist. I really would prefer throwing the skid plate in the ocean but that warranty statement is screwing me up šŸ˜Ž.

  12. I have a friend whoā€™s RC is always coming off. Seems his hand is sliding up the handle into the bottom of the RC. I have vet wrap on my handle with a generous portion at the top that prevents my hand from sliding up. I have yet to have my RC pop off, yet. šŸ¤ž

Not offended at all, Steve.Ā  I realize it is just a playful messing with odd names.Ā  I too thought Manticore was an odd name when I first heard it.Ā  But I do see the variations come from more people who have a Deus II and must feel the Manticore is an assault on the detecting superiority of the Deus II right now.Ā  Psych 300 is interesting.Ā Ā

Has nothing to do with a perceived assault of the superiority of the Deus ll detecting ability. Others have tried to explain to you, from day one, it is simply a jab at a truly funny name for a metal detector. And no one can compare the two detectors as one is out in the wild and one is not. Most everyone no matter what they swing agrees, itā€™s a weird a$$ name. šŸ˜ƒ

  14. I firmly believe ( JMHO ), that the early release was primarily to slow or stop Ā the runaway train sales of the Deus ll. If you drop $1500.00 for a new detector, whatā€™s the odds of doing it again six months later. Although it would be nothing for some, but the majority would not especially after seeing how well the first machine preformed. Again JMHO. MY $1500 fairly new machine is killin it so no Montycure in my future.Ā
