  1. Glad to see a young person like yourself pursuing the detecting hobby. Welcome to the forum!!!!
  2. Welcome Troy, So glad you decided on DP. Looks like you have found some great stuff over the years. Just my two cents on the 800, keep it simple and you will do really well in the coin department. Looking forward to your future posts, Coins, bottles or gold it's all good to me.
  3. Nice, Nice and more Nice, If I wasn't afraid of sharks I would give that water stuff a whirl HaHa. Nice job!!!
  4. Thanks Monte, I really appreciate your thoughtful advice and experiences you have so kindly worded. It's people like you who make detector prospector such a great place. Thanks for being a member!!! I hope you find another, and post it so I have more reason to chase the Trime. I wish you the best of luck every time out.
  5. Nice job, Those guilt buttons are always fun. I got 17 out of one hole a little while back.
  6. F350, I've been on a trime quest for a while and want to thank you for the help with the id numbers in another post. Oddly when I popped that coin I thought of your advice and want to believe somehow you gave me some more confidence to not walk away from some of those odd id's that usually produce some rather normal finds. Glad this forum is here for all of us to trade info. This goes to show that sometimes things aren't always what you think.
  7. Glad you found the humor in my pain GB Ha HA. Here in PA the rosie's come out of the ground like Zincoln's. I would love to have you here to share my pain and bug bites. PM me your address and I'll seed your yard with rosie's like the silver Santa.
  8. I have been dying to find a trime for quite a while and seriously loosing sleep on thinking about it. So it's July 5th and after a ton of weekend rain I called my buddy to see if he wanted to take a go somewhere. He wanted to take me to an old colonial cellar hole site that he and another friend hunted a lot. I did not have high hopes of a great hunt but it was better than sitting at home. This place was crazy weird with random broken/disappearing signals, which I soon found out was caused by some very strange sandstone that my detector and pointer would pick up on. So after 3 hours of crap signals and misc. doo-dads, I decided to change locations. I walked down range about 150 meters and proceeded to hit some new ground. Low and behold it was quite chatter free and insect free. I was hunting near a small blown over tree and saw a dig hole,so I drifted about 5 feet away and got THE first solid tone of the day a unwavering 19 on the 800. Well jeez louis, I don't care what it is. Expecting a copper button or such, I proceeded with the dig. The plug was a 0 but the hole was coming up hot. I scraped away 4 inches of dirt and the hole went blank. The pointer nailed it and out popped a what I thought was an aluminium snap button. I snatched it up gave it a rub and Holy S**T I found a Trime!!!! I consider myself a pretty tough guy, But I have to admit I shed a little tear. This is a coin I have been chasing for a long time. Well my poor close up vision and my death grip on the coin clouded my brain. I called my buddy over to look at my trime and he proceeded to tell me I did NOT repeat NOT find a Trime but a 1857 seated 1/2 dime. Well being in love with the trimes I was highly disappointed. I Have this seated coin on my bucket list but a little lower on the scale. My buddy thought I was nuts, maybe I am? Another hour and a half yielded a 1864 and 1865 indian head and some other cool doo dads for me, And my buddy rolled out with a beautiful 1874 shield nickle and 2 1864 indian heads. Happy yes, But I can't get the trime thing out of my head.
  9. Nice Job buddy, Another good hunt!!! Sometimes the god's just smile when your feeling like it will just be another nonproductive hunt.
  10. CHIGGERS-CHIGGERS-CHIGGERS, OH Man those things are the worst!!!!! I had a trip to Kentucky and suffered for a month after my return. If I hunted in the south a lot I would bring Napalm in large quantity's. Deer fly's also killed me there also, Damn I hate F'ing bugs.
  11. Great question Steve, I often wondered why someone wouldn't come up with a good one. If I can contribute to this I would prefer a non-descript suitcase style. The uglier and planer the better. Years ago I had a very very expensive custom rifle never make it to a hunt. It was a basic lockable case which I wrapped in brown paper and packing tape. I had the gun insured and the airline was great, but it could never be replaced with dollars. So I would need something that looks like a normal case, where some airline employee would just pass it by and think it was underwear. Oh and it should fit most breakdown detectors. I would have to say cost would have to be around $200 or under.
  12. GB, We use the same tick and mosquito spray Ha Ha. Today it did little good, I think it was more of an attractant. I got murdered by the blood suckers but still came out on top!!!! I'm amazed what I endure for this hobby.
  13. $100 on a shovel, Its a good thing my wife does not detect, because she would have 0 problems getting a $100 shovel, A $500 custom leather finds bag, Oh and a pair of $1000 Italian designer detecting shoes. Getting her into the hobby could be costly.
  14. For the Pointer difference. One seems to false a lot in the damp or wet ground and chase things that are not in the hole. Works perfectly well in the dry. The other is oddly the opposite. Also the audio is less loud for one vs the other. My buddy uses a Ranger it's a pretty awesome shovel. At the time I wanted to get one but they were unavailable so the GD instead. It's just as good in my opinion. The only thing a shovel can't overcome is an old buried stone driveway. Invent one of those and I'm in.
  15. Here's my all year set up, The bag is an OmegaMill relic elite with my own belt, which is super light and very well made. (USA). The big shovel is a Grave digger Nemesis. The hand digger is made by our member Kac. This little digger is the best I have ever used. Gloves are Tractor Supply. And I run two garret pointer's oddly they perform different. I use one in dry soil and the other in wet soil. Other stuff is a tooth brush, bamboo chop stick, and some small storage containers for the good finds.
  16. I would stop by your local S&M club and see if you can find it's owner.
  17. I would have to wear snow shoes in that place, Last time I was at an area like that I chipped my elbow and got a few stitches. Only thing I found was my insurance card. Glad you made a good day out of it all.
  18. Great job on the Merc., They a really pretty coin. I've dug about a 15 just this year so far. Where there is one there's more. Keep on digging the slightly off tones, especially if they are in that silver range. I've dug about 4 that were in the 21-23 vdi this year.
  19. Nice finds buddy, I like the masonic medal, and the silver is a win win.
  20. Great job Raphis, I love the merc's. Nice to see your doing quite well. Wish you more luck next time out.
  21. I'll dig into it a little deeper and see if I can come up with the gun it was fired from. Sharps might be a good place to start. I'll keep you posted.
  22. F350, thanks for the info!!! I thought about the 45-70 but wasn't sure if the older guns used a 4 lands and groove barrel. Everything else looks roughly correct. I can assume it was a 500grn. bullet if the missing chunk was still there.
  23. I came across this bullet the other day, about 10'' down in an old farm pasture. I'm kinda sure this is not civil war but its not something I've ever seen. Here's the spec's (rough) It has 4 Lands and 4 grooves. It mic's at .457 + and - The length is around an 1 1/4'' Weight is 480.5 grains or 31.14 grams I thought it was a.50-70 round, but I think the bullet is to long for the case. Leaning on the side of muzzle loader. Any help would be great.
  24. Thanks for the info, I had a feeling they were in the crap range. Well lucky me more trash to dig!!!!
  25. Anyone out there that can give me a base line VDI for a Trime? I'll take an air test number or if anyone records their VDI's in the dirt that would be great. Also if you have numbers at depth that would also be awesome. Always searching for my bucket lister's. Hope some of you can point me in the right direction.
