  1. Went to a local park today after work. Only had a couple of hours to detect and test out my new home made arm cuff. I wasn't a big fan of the plastic, and it was a little too wide and flexy for me. At this point I only have about 5 hours on the 800. The first hour today netted me a handful of clad and some misc. corroded zinc. The next hour was the same thing clad and junk. With only 15 minutes to chicken parm, I got a really nice 28-29, not expecting anything great, I proceeded to find out what it was. For a split second I thought it was another odd piece of stainless, But I quickly saw Tiffany and co. Wooooo Hoooooo. Now I had a good excuse for being a little late for dinner. My wife would never get mad for a Tiffany ring. It is about 6.16 grams and polished to like new. Oh and the cuff was a winner too. fits my arm and no slop. I made it out of an old no parking sign and the factory bottom section. It took me a few hours to create, but I'm happy with it. Have to give a shout out to Kac for the hand digger, Still works great and hasn't failed me yet.
  2. As Hannibal from the A team always said, I love it when a plan comes together!!!!! Nice saves on the treasure. Great Job
  3. Great job on the saves!!!! You gotta love those kinda hunts!!! Wish you luck with the next shopping trip Ha Ha
  4. WELCOME Biggoldnug, Well if your looking for friends, Stories, Info and just good times you found the right place. Glad to have you here to help us all. Looking forward to your adventures.
  5. Yup I think its a keeper!!! GB, your correct. The zincoln's do do break on some weird spots depending on corrosion and ground conditions. The IH's with the 1864 year and bronze make up produce a different tone, VDI wise they are only a couple of points off. Over all my equinox and yours will most definitely react in much different ways, depending on soil and coin or target corrosion. Testing and digging to your liking will always produce results that are much different from our fellow detectors. Basic set up's are a help but they do not guarantee the best performance for all of of our area's. Heck, I usually have to change programs in almost every place I hunt. Granted, I still have hundreds of hours to go figuring this machine out, But judging how the Minelab people designed the equinox I'm pretty sure that drifting far from factory settings is just a big mistake. Other than tone breaks, Tone sounds, recovery speed ( I use 4) and sensitivity (I use 17) From the limited hours I have on this machine, I don't see the need to go crazy. Most people spend more time over complicating programs than finding better places to hunt. All that being said, I really think that the equinox is a game changer (I didn't believe that prior to owning one) In a way that I can not explain. It does things that are much much different than other machines. BUT that will not help if you don't take the time to listen to what it's telling you.
  6. Little update, I got to looking at 2 of the large cents, because they looked a little small. Well after a little cleaning, One turned out to be a Connecticut copper and the other is a draped bust. Sadly they are in really bad shape.
  7. Welcome EH, Glad you joined up nice to have you here.
  8. Well after a long frustrating wait for Nokta's multi frequency machine, I could no longer wait or hold out. I received my new equinox 800 on the 19th and did some air tests and made a list of the VDI's and played with flipping the tones for my liking. After thinking the machine was just OK with some of my basic testing, It was time to run across the street to give it a run. I will tell you all that I have hunted this area to death with my MK. ( or so I thought) I only had 90 minutes to give its first test. I decided to dig every target with an 18 or higher VDI. Just trying to decifer my new sounds. First 5 min. netted some clad, but the next 85 broke all my records. first 3 coins after the clad were large cents, the next was a draped bust 1/2 cent (bucket 1) The next was a paper thin copper with a shield, could it be? Yes it was a New Jersey copper. I have been chasing this coin for years (bucket 2). Then a single button and an Israeli 1/2 shekel (not sure how that got there). I only had a few minutes left to hunt when I got a faint 18 on the nox and hit a button at 10 inches, But that wasn't all this hole had to give. It was like a button slot machine, 12 in all and total of 15 inches down. My wonderful wife called and I had to leave for dinner. I have to say the most impressive feature on the nox is the noise cancel, It made the site come back to life. As for settings, Park 1, sensitivity 17, and custom tone breaks and t1 - 1 t2- 25 t3 - 15 t4 - 10 t5 - 5 Tone sounds, I run them to get low tones on copper targets. Sounds odd I know, but it works for me. Have to say I'm impressed with the first 90 minutes I've run the 800.
  9. Welcome Johnny T, Glad to have you on board!!! As VL said check your county for property listings and go from there, Also there are some mobile apps that you pay a fee for that will show you the owner just by driving by. As for starting out after permissions, Dig every signal to learn what the machine is telling you. It won't take long to figure it out. Once you hit around the 10 inch mark, You can pretty much figure it's a big chunk of iron or a flattened aluminum can. I wish you all the luck with the new endeavor. And remember ask all the questions you need to, We all will do are best to help you out.
  10. WOW Peg, Those are some great finds!!! I think I might have to give the fossil hunting thing a go one of these days. Thanks for posting and peaking my interest.
  11. Nice finds on the coins!!! Looks like Darth Vader beheaded Obi-Wan Kenobi Ha Ha !!!!
  12. large truck tire stem, looks like a great day of toobing at the lake Ha Ha, Did you find a beer can next to it?
  13. Welcome to the site!!! I would suggest a simplex or maybe a vanquish, Or whatever detector you have or choose, learn it. Most people over complicate the hobby, Just take your time and have fun. You will find out the plus or minuses of your machine to help you in your next purchase. Good luck Brian.
  14. Don't hold your breath, you might pass out. They keep posting items with no pricing or critical info. Almost like they are fishing for interest. I not sure about you but I would like to see the new multi before a shovel, hip holster, or head phones. I'm starting to wonder whats going on at Nokta. I think the accessory market is way overloaded with products and not sure why the marketing campaign is going in this direction. How about teasing the new multi? Garrett Did.
  15. So kinda like a cross between an old sheep and an american ground hog!!! I'm in, so somebody better start the fire. Oh and bring plenty of paper towels and beverages of choice.
  16. That is a handsome collection of bottles, Glad you posted that, It brings back a lot of childhood memories of digging in the old farm dumps. Thanks
  17. I hear if you eat one you'll find more gold. I wonder what they taste like?
  18. Welcome my friend, It wasn't stumbling, It was the treasure Gods pointing you in the right direction HaHa. Glad to have you here and hope you share some of your experiences.
  19. Welcome Ben, Nice to see old habits don't retire. Glad your back in action and I'm sure you'll have some great things to share with us.
  20. I agree Chuck, No price its free. It's one of my pet peeve's . Makes you want to hit the buy it now button, doesn't it? Oh that's right, you can't because of no price. Seems like a logical way of selling something. I wonder who is in charge of product sales for some of these companies. We have it, but you have to wait and see what we want for it.
  21. GB, your explanation is exactly spot on, Now i'm going to chuckle every time I hear the putt putt.
  22. I like the carrot quite a bit, But but it does not seem to like damp or wet iron mineralized soil. Sometimes it will pin point forever on a not there target. Here's what I do. Dig the plug and use your detector to focus on the target first. If the target has moved from the hole to the plug your good. if your still getting the same numbers or tone from your detector probe a little deeper and detector check to make sure your not chasing a ghost. If your target is bouncing from different places in the hole then 90% of the time it's a false signal. The carrot is really sensitive to deep large iron and will make you dig 15+ inches chasing crap. Also pushing the carrot hard into the soil will make it false. Do not fall into the trap of pin pointer be all, Use your detector for the answers you seek, and pay attention to the tones and numbers when you pop the first plug. There's to many ground conditions to rely on your pin pointer alone. Digging random crazy signals will help you learn how your detector and pin pointer work together in good and bad soil conditions. But that's no guarantee on finding the treasure. Sometimes we just waste a lot of time digging good sounding stuff, Only to find out it's just another gum wrapper.
  23. Nice to have you on DP Sapper, Hope all of us can help with all your questions. Looking forward to your input here. Thanks for joining.
  24. Really nice barber, I would be happy with a dentist.
  25. For me it depends on what park I'm hunting and what time of year. Some of my parks get a lot of people in the warmer month's, so I usually try to go early and leave by 9:00am. In the cooler months I pretty much roll in around 11:00am and hunt the rest of the day. It will take a little time to get all of your parks schedules figured out. One thing I do is check and see if the park has an online calendar to see if they have scheduled events for the month. Nobody wants to start hunting and find out a soccer game is starting on the field your in. As for the rainy day hunts I just don't bother unless it's a one time only hunt. I'm not a big fan of digging mud and getting soaked.
