  1. John ... I think it was around 5-6 inches.. And I was using the small coil... Tomorrow I'm going to hunt the same area with the midsize coil and see how it does...
  2. Thnx CG... Check out my post today... Lol lol u called it!!!
  3. Well against my better judgement I went out and tackled the 100 degree heat... I've been pondering going 1 mile from the house to close to 10 acres of tailing piles... So I turn my machine on ...set it ...ground balance and my first swing got a target... Was thinking to myself that it was probably my trusty friend 'ole tin foil' because if how broad the signal was...but now that I dig every target regardless of its sound I began to dig...the target id never went past 64-68 and never lower than 44-45... Well this was the result of my machines work... The stone weighs 8.6 dwt... Unsure of how much gold is in the stone itself but out of the ground my machine is giving a signal of 56 no more no less...same # my buddy's 1/4 oz nugget gives...if that means anything...this is the biggest piece I have ever found ...I actually sat for a minute next to the hole with tears in my eyes cause I've worked real hard for this day....note my camera on my phone is a p.o.s.
  4. CG... I'm doing ok but just not finding the big pieces and I think it's due to me not understanding my machine totally.... Ur doing excellent I'm going out alittle later when it cools down some...found a place that's been screaming my name and today IM answering...lol lol
  5. Nice job... U said u were going home to catch up and I'll be damned if u didn't blow right by me.lol lol lol ... What were the readings on those dwt pieces??? Just curious... Trying to get the readings in check..
  6. Yeah I love it...I love it so much I just sold my gb2 because I never use it anymore..it literally had dust on it... Lol lol lol
  7. Well it has 3 modes ..boost ...dis3..general which is all metal and when I say all metal I mean every piece of black sand to slivers of foil...that setting is so hard to work... Boost mode is the best and I find more gold with it...so it works for me... No when I eventually make it to the coast in sure the other modes will come into play on the beach...
  8. I have a different # setting ... I run my Nokta in boost mode with the sensitivity at around 80-85 and my discrimination at 5-8... Lowering my sensitivity a little at a time to take away some but not all of the ground noise... With the smallest coil on this machine I have dug atleast close to a ft for a square nail and over 6 inches for a piece of foil the size of a half dollar.. I thought I hit the big one that day...lol lol I've tried the general mose which is all metal mode on this machine and way too much work steadily every 2 ft resetting it.. I found that boost mode gets me greater depth and hits a target dead on... I'm still learning though and having fun doing it...
  9. Wow that makes all the sense I guess... Thnx again for the advice...this machine is doing great for me...best decision I ever made....ready to go other places with it.... Ready for the patch ...only cause everyone talks so much about it... Lol lol
  10. Steve I have a question that really has been bugging the heck out of me... Sometimes I hit a target and it sounds real good and gives good readings UNTIL I get real close to it digging then it gives a bad reading and sounds bad...it only does it on hot ground... It's start off with 40sh or higher the when I'm almost on it be a 16 or 18 and turn out to be a nail or something like that... I recheck the hole and pile and no more targets... Is this common...
  11. Wow just when my machine was getting alittle easy... Steve u throw me another complicated bone... No doubt this will better my skills...thnx..
  12. Lol lol when I dig target the magnet on my pick has 3-5 little tiny rocks and is always full of sand
  13. Up where I'm at in N. Cali the ground is real hot around old hydro mines.. When I ground balance the reading is usually around 79-85 and actually I hate mining them because of my lack of experience has me digging like a retarded rat in a bag of cheetos every 5 inches...alot of times I'm digging targets that aren't there because I haven't yet figured out every sound my machine makes yet the one thing I wil l say is that when this machine hits a target whether it's trash or gold ..u definitely know its a target unlike my gb2 which makes what I feel like a million different sounds....but still fun though.. Anyhoo wish I could provide more help...
  14. tvanwho... I'm guessing at this rate it shouldn't be long ...I've had the machine about a mth now .... Once I start finding bigger gold ...lol lol lol today the machine just put me on the right spot for me to dig...I will say I'm having a great time with this machine...
  15. Took my Nokta to an old creek.... Well I gave the machine a few swings along the bank and found 1 piece so I put the coil in the 6" deep water and sweeped the ground ...not one target ...hit another spot in the water about 5ft away and the machine went nuts... The water was about a ft deep so I pulled out my trusty Keene A52 ...my shovel and classifier and got busy... The pic shows my results 2.8 dwt in an hr and a half...I will be back at that spot over the weekend...for a full day....
  16. Glad this topic came up ...I've been looking into a little handheld gps ... Been using my phone but even with a ottorbox its still taking an ass whoopin.. Was looking at the etrex but don't really know much about them... I've gotten lost a few times and its alittle scary around my parts...
  17. Nice finds ... Gonna start looking alittle closer from now on...
  18. Nice nugget... Just enough inspiration for me not to give up on these hydro mines...where I live there are lots of them...
  19. Just drove out to see this machine AND.... GARBAGE!!!!!!guy claimed he used it 5 times.. machine showed way more use than 20 times out...the guy had it stored out in his shed and mice ate through the bag and nested...one battery cover was taped and the coil had a crack on the side running to the top and a coil cover was epoxyed on... Honestly wasn't worth $1 to me ... I told the guy that he needed to check the definition of what'like brand new' ment before he listed something for sale.... Very disappointed...worst of all though...the wife with "I told u so" most of the way home...think I'm just gonna save up for a new one...
  20. I had to get different shoes because it picks up my hiking boots on every step...got aggravating after awhile... I've learned in a short time that in this brand of fun I am constantly observing and learning...
  21. Spencer by the sound of it we are dealing with the same problems... On the mouse holes etc I actually get a reading of bouncing mixed #'s... I am rough with my coils I think... I'm a scrubber but that's how I find my gold ... I'm aggressive with it my wife went one day with me a flipped out on me "saying this is what u spent almost $1k to do ..tear something up".. Yeah she hasn't gone since and even with the bump noises its quite when she's home...lol lol lol lol Well thnx Spencer for the input because I was starting to believe something was defective with the midsize coil..
