  1. I'm not so sure I want the coin signals spread all over the VDI range. I'd then have to dig just about everything. Today, just about all coins ring up 80 and above, and the X-Y screen gives added assurance. I'm more interested in getting an idea of what type of metal is there, not whether a coin is a dime or a quarter. Both would get dug anyway. I wish there was a way to better identify aluminum, but as a high conductor, it may simply be something I have to live with. The tiniest bit of aluminum rings up so sweet, and here in Michigan, I find a ton of round aluminum tree tags that were placed on the Ash trees, before the Emerald Ash Borer insect wiped them all out. Those aluminum discs sound like a silver dollar every time.
  2. Argh! Ground is frozen here ... I hate you. Ok, just kidding ... excellent finds, and thanks for sharing. It's the start of a long winter here, so I'll focus on researching sites when the ground thaws in 6 months.
  3. Same experience, basstrackerman. I use the full remote almost all the time. I have the WSA-II headphones so I can use the puck as the remote, but after a few outings with the "lite" configuration, I went back to the full remote. I really couldn't detect the weight reduction, as the Deus II is already quite light with the full remote. I also like the larger display, as my eyes are rapidly aging.
  4. I have yet to find a satisfactory stand for the D2. I store my Deus 2 in the optional hard case, so any stand will have to fit into the foam cut-out in the hard case. I'll eventually create my own solution that folds or retracts into the handle, preserving the original shape of the handle when storing in the case. For the Deus 2, XP has simply re-used the handle design from its legacy machines, and the 'stand' that is integrated into the handle is where the control box is mounted (see picture below). Can't blame XP for reusing parts where it can.
  5. Thanks for sharing this. So far, no issues on this end with the 11" coil - I can detect for 3-4 hours and the battery still shows full. Please let us know about the repair experience if you send it in for repairs.
  6. I use the aftermarket 3D-printed clip from Detector Doodads. It slides on easily and has a voltage display, which is nice. I can generally tell the charge level of the coil by the voltage reading. Have not used the factory clip since buying the aftermarket clip. Money well-spent.
  7. Windows has more than 50 million lines of code. It could never be defect-free and if Microsoft waited until it was defect-free, it would never be released. Also, the world continues to evolve ... new devices and peripherals, new software, new services. Windows, or any consumer OS, will never be finished.
  8. From what I've witnessed, XP seems to focus more on quality than marketing hype. Therefore, I expect that the next firmware release would come when XP feels it is ready. I agree with CPT_GhostLight - 1.0 is just a number and may not imply any special level of software maturity.
  9. I bought the WSA II headphones to give me the option of using the WS6 headphone puck as the remote. Amazingly modular detector, and since it lacks a coil cable, it folds up so fast and easy. This lightweight configuration is perfect for backpacking and travel.
  10. Have not had an opportunity to get the detector out in the cities we've visited so far. I'm not after relics in Peru, and if I stumble across a true Peruvian relic, I'll contact a local museum. An old coin would be nice, but this is a family vacation, and detecting is a secondary priority.
  11. I forgot that there was a clock on the Deus 2 remote. I've never used it, but I can see where it would be helpful to have a functioning clock. I tend to use my phone when I need to know the time.
  12. I am the odd IT guy who has no Windows devices, only Linux laptops, but the Deus 2 update software ran fine for me when I ran it under the Wine compatibility layer.
  13. Congratulations on your Deus 2 purchase. I am enjoying mine, and the machine has performed quite well any place I take it, including under water. I currently have it with me while travelling in Peru. I added the WSA2 headphones to allow me to use the WS6 puck as the master remote. I've tested it but haven't actually hunted with it yet, but wow, it's quite light in that configuration. Enjoy your D2.
  14. 0.7 worked! I was not able to install the previous update since I was getting "object reference not set to an instance of an object", but with version 0.7, I experienced no error. Thanks XP! I even updated my remote using my Linux laptop (using the Wine Windows compatibility layer) and it ran successfully. Used my wife's Windows 11 laptop for the headphone update, just to test on Windows. Will hit the woods this weekend to get some experience with 0.7.
  15. I experienced the remote lock-up when doing the frequency scan, but the coil and remote were no more than 2 feet apart. This was not an issue with the coil being out of range of the remote. I was in close proximity of two laptops (maybe 2-3 feet), so perhaps EMF interference from the WiFi communication? No idea - anything would be a guess. Also, the WS-6 pinpointer was powered up (and paired earlier). My home has both WiFi and Z-wave frequencies in operation, so maybe EMF was a factor? Has not happened since, although I avoid doing frequency scans indoors.
