Recently, I have been trying to persuade my wife into coming out metal detecting with me. She has repeatedly told me that metal detecting is a man’s hobby, and that women don’t usually go out metal detecting. So here I am today to see what the percentage is to hopefully prove her wrong and get her to come with me.

Was it hard to hear or did you have a sound enhancer to help you. 😁
Haha, good one! Yeah, I had to put on my headphones and turn up the sound!

It's a slag ladle, used in steel/metal foundries to haul away the molten slag from steel/metal production, they haul it out of the foundry and to dump the slag.
Cool

I was out metal detecting a area I have wanted to detect for a long time. I ended up finding this cool old rail car. I has a big pot looking bucket in the middle. Any guesses for what it was used for? I is a bit of a different kind of relic to find. I was in a old railroad area and maybe it was moved here and forgotten may years ago, only remembered by the graffiti artists. The rest of the metal detecting finds are coming as soon as I clean and sort them out.

It's always nice to find an Indian Head penny. You're really getting the area cleaned out. Looks like that 5x10 is working good.
What Indian head penny?

I was out metal detecting a few days ago. I found this is a sealed container(maybe a time capsule). It is some sort bowl container. It has the swastika emblems on it. The second photo is the other one I found in the container with it. I am wondering if it is from ww2 era Germany, or maybe something before the Germans used the symbol. I think it used to be a good luck symbol. Could it have been a ww2 vet bring back and buried in a time capsule? I found it in PA, USA

TreasureHunter5, Have you never used one, or are you using one? Your two posts don't agree. Just a bit confused here. GaryC/Oregon Coast
As you can see, my first post was earlier than my second, so at the time of the first post, I didn’t have one. As of the second post I have a pinpointer. It is a cheaper one I just got, and I was asking for a suggestions on a better one.

I agree it is better to have one. I started out with a cheap bounty hunter one that vibrates. I will probably get a higher quality one once I find a good one. Any recommendations?

Does anyone know a way to dip in grass without the grass dying. When digging in my yard, I try to not kill the grass. But the circle of grass in dig always turns brown/yellow. I was wondering if there was a way to prevent this, or is this something that just happens. Thanks!

Wow, I really like those 4 stoneware jugs on the last picture! Do you know what they would have been used for. I have one with a number 3 on it.

These are very cool!

Some are even radioactive (uranium,) and glow under (I'm assuming) a black light.
That’s cool! I might have to try that to see if this is one of them!

Thanks to everyone for responding! I like find these old glass and then finding out what they are. If some of them are newer, I don’t care because they look cool. If anyone else has any guesses, please let me know!

I have more bottles to show soon, I haven’t cleaned them yet.

Hey everyone! I’m here in my spare bathroom, and I took a few pictures after cleaning. I found these old bottles a few days ago while hunting on a hill by my grandfathers house. The house was built in 1909 I think, and he told me it used to be a bottle dump in the nearby woods. It was my first time getting to look at the hill. Anyway, I was just asking if anyone knows anything about these little bottles/jars. The one on the farthest left looks like a cork top. The seem does not go all the way to the top(maybe blown in a mold?) it has a W in a triangle on the bottom and a number. The second bottle/jar has a screw type lip. It was lines and dots going almost all the way around the bottle, but stops in a section(see pictures). Was this maybe for a label? It also has a strange rectangular hole in the bottom. Any ideas what that was for? The last jar on the far right looks like a little vase. It has a nice green color, but a small chip. It also has a screw type lid. It does look neat. I would like to know what originally came in them and what they were used for. Anyone who knows about bottles or anyone who would like to guess would be appreciated. Thank you for looking, and I hope to hear your guesses!

Hi, this collector web page looks pretty good, and has about mid-way down what looks to be your example in pieces to show the manufacture. http://hglanham.tripod.com/metalinsignia/collardisk1.html . 1937-1943 seems to be the rough date.
A similar issue (the fixing method) occurs with British army badges. Many changed over time from a simple start point, and some were adapted from day 1 because nobody had thought the design through - so the fixings can be a nightmare to put a date to. Interesting is that over here 1942 saw us go into 'wartime economy' production of brown plastic army badges because of the shortage of brass.
Thank you! I never thought it would be before to early ww2! That was a good find then!

Thanks for your input. Maybe I will show her a few videos of girls metal detecting. I will not force her to go with me if she doesn’t want to I guess.
