  1. Ok I’ve been thinking about getting that for a while now. I know on my prizm 5 I leave the 6” dd on it but it’s only good to 6”. I have found the coins I’m looking for are 7-10” typically. What is your opinion on a depth loss % versus the 11” standards coil? I know it’s relative to every location but in your case % wise?
  2. I featured the 3 mhz 17” cors aka boat anchor. Honestly I got that in the winter on a killer deal and only used it a few times. Depth was about 10” but I never put the time into it to optimize the performance of it. To be honest I wished I’d just opted for the 10.5 or 11” (don’t remember the size) standard DD Minelab coil. On the 705 I never liked the aftermarket coils as much...the 10 x 5” gold coil was by far my fav but the depth lacked. I was so locked into an Eq that I only ran the boat anchor two or three times. Overall, I didn’t see anything special from it the few hours I ran it. Depth tests showed an extra two inches over the 10” and concentric standard coil that came on the 705. To answer the question would have to be inconclusive unfortunately.
  3. Thanks guys 🙂 and yes I’ve been passionate about detecting most of my life. If I was the only person left on the planet...I’d still spend my time detecting! First time with a multi MHz machine but I’m getting there...slower than I thought because I’m typically a very fast learner. I 100% believe I made the right choice because the EQ 600 is a straight beast!
  4. I feel I’m getting close to figuring this out in part to what you said. I haven’t gb’d with each change because it’s so hard to do it where I’m at and didn’t think it would make a difference. I eventually can get it done...when I look back at the gb settings=.it has changed drastically and I don’t have tracking on? I think there is something along the lines of gb, drastic soil changes, initial changes to program, and Proper programming in relation to conditions. It’s seems like the more disc I have the less effective multi is? Any truth to that?
  5. I don’t know anyone with an eq 600 around here. Contacting seller is a no go, he doesn’t respond and has been “not cool” to deal with... so I’ll leave it at that. Earlier I had some new developments. I did a reset and multi seemed to regain the strength that I have heard about. My park 1 and 2 I had disc 20 and up(before the reset that seemed to hurt multi??)because I would be in a 5 foot area digging trash for hours...you wouldn’t believe how trashy our parks are. This time I opened up with the standard disc and dug a ton of trash but multi seemed better. It is almost impossibly to ground balance because I can’t find a clean spot. Now...for the first time I had hella emi issues...had to drop to 18 for clarity. Weird how this hasn’t manifested itself before. As I tested 5mhz vs multi, multi showed to be the superior choice! However, later in my hunt when I moved it went back to 5 mhz being the better choice. Could it be different soils doing this? I constantly tested one against the other, and I keep having to shift which is why we have those options I assume. But I didn’t think it would be this taxing in such a short duration on each site. Overall I do feel a lot better and I hooked into a coin spill earlier! All passengers aboard...captain coin spill hooked into one!
  6. Hello all!! Long time stalker on the boards here...and I believe this has been the best source of info for me. I have been detecting since 1992 when I got a 1235-x for my 13th b day! I didn’t detect for quite a few years but really got back into it the last 5 years. I had an at pro, prizm 5 that I still have as a back up. I got a 705 a year and a half ago and really broke thru with that machine. About a month ago I traded for in for a EQ 600 and simply love this machine...best I’ve had by far. I’m still trying to work thru the multi IQ difference that I addressed in another post (5mhz crushing multi in depth). I’ve already hit 7 wheaties and one at 10”. Anyways sorry for rambling and HH!! Mike
  7. Thanks so much and yes I’ll hit up the greet. Weird thing is I did air test and multi was just as deep if not deeper. So after thinking over the replies, I’m wondering if Emi could be an issue? Thing is...the machine is super stable everywhere and I can even run 25 sens. Does emi make any noticeable noises to clue you in it is an issue? Or is it a silent type issue? I’m going to do another air test after a factory reset and do a quick ground coin test on site and report back. I was showing 14” on a quarter on multi air test so from that aspect I was excited. Just have to figure out why that’s not transferring to the ground. We have black thick clay which is like digging in concrete lately due to no rain. Thanks again I’m going to run a battery of tests this pm.
  8. Well test garden gb’s at 21 or so. There is a big fluctuation in the GB #s from location to location. I do the same test at every location I’ve been at, and have experienced the same observations. Of course I don’t mind using 5mhz if that is the best option which I have been...but I was led to believe multi’s strength was optimal performance across the board in many situations...so far it’s been zero for me. So of course after spending the $ I have...I’m going to investigate this to ensure there isn’t something I’m missing like anyone would. I haven’t done a reset which I will do this evening.
  9. “I guess I don’t entirely understand the concern. If 5 kHz is working best for you, why would you not want to use it? Were they to have left it off the machine as having no purpose? The entire reason for having the frequency options is in being able to have them for use in situations where they might offer an advantage. It may simply be your particular location, the combination of ground and targets sought, plus background EMI, favor using 5 kHz.” My concern is pretty clear imo...why would all frequencies be as deficient as they are...when I’ve compared them to multiple locations in multiple scenarios?
  10. “This is odd , I have an Eq800 and on my test boxes I get the same depth result between mono 5khz and Multi on a 10grams copper coin ( with a very slight advantage to 5khz). My test is done on moderate mineralized ground ( Balance at 30 ).“ I certainly don’t doubt that and this is what is bothering me. Why am I getting such a huge disparity? Believe me I’ve tried everything to avoid posting a question that has probably been addressed. However, I’m out of options and can’t find the answer thru my research?
  11. I did just read this in a buried topic: “Just an example of where multifrequency can still go. Right now you will hear it said that when a detector uses single frequency, all the power is focused on that one frequency, which can give slightly better results on that frequencies preferred target class over multifrequency. This is because multifrequency spreads the power out over the frequency range, with each frequency therefore running slight less than full power. It is the compromise of running all frequencies versus a single frequency. However, with that single frequency you are focused on a single class of targets, and will do less well on the other frequency ranges than the multifrequency unit. But it does not have to be that way. That is mostly a function of battery power and the desire to keep power use within tolerable ranges. With new high power battery technology, the next step will be multifrequency where each frequency is optimized and running at full power equivalent to what you get running at a single frequency only. I expect we will see this development in the relatively near future.” -Steve H. That does explain my concern some and thanks for the reply. However, we are talking about a pretty drastic disparity here. Typically, I balance in the teens or 20’s...and sometimes in the 80’s. I basically want to know if I have a glitch in my machine, or an oversight on my part on Settings(more probable)...but I’ve tried every combo I can think of. I usually run park one and haven’t tried the field settings a lot. I did test the concern in all the programs but more in park one. Perhaps I need to focus of field settings but here in Texas you can barely find a spot to ground balance because our ground is FULL of can slaw and a myriad of pop tops and tabs.
  12. First time longtime prowler, and first want to say thanks to Steve H. For the wealth of info I have obtained from him. I’ve recently traded in my 705 for the EQ 600 and have my first 20 hours on it. I def love it but I do have one pending concern that I’ve researched quite heavily to no avail. I’m in central Texas(we have thick dark clay soil that balances at 22 to even 80 sometimes) and mainly hunt old parks or homesteads but will be hitting the beach in a few days now that the virus has subsided. First off, I’m proficient in proper initial set up(noise cancel, manual ground balance, etc.). I’ve ran a test garden and have checked many good targets I hit, and this is the conclusion I’ve come to of late: multi doesn’t touch 5 kHz on depth and Id/tone. 5 kHz has slammed 7 wheats that multi couldn’t see at all? I’ve toggled every option(FE, Speed, hunt pattern) and the same holds true. The primary reason I got the EQ is for the multi tech. Now I find myself using 5 kHz only. I know multi may be better for low conductors but if it doesn’t see a 6” coin flat that gives me A LOT of concern. Please help.
