Someone here likely knows what that is. I think you should alter your post title to get more eyes on the post. Also, it's really more relevant to native/natural gold detectorists than coin and relic hunters. As such the general forum is more likely to get noticed by those people.
You are right GB, I didn’t think about that.

This is a fantastic post Doc. I have found a few gold rush era knives. I really like your posts, keep it going.

That is a neat ring and a great find.

Looks like a fun and exciting hunt. Good job on getting through the fence, I tend to rip my pants doing that. I also run the D-2 and in sites like that notching the lower numbers is your friend. I have Gold Rush sites with so much iron it will drive you nuts without the notch.

I just updated at 7:30 pm pacific time no problem.

Finding the good stuff Doc. Appears to be an early site. Have fun!

That half is exceptional. Beauty! Good for you...had to be a rush!
That is on the my short list of denominations left to find....and I can only hope to happen upon one some day. Got teased with an 1892 Barber half once....almost not fair.
It was an unexpected surprise for sure and one good memory. Post rinse pics at the actual dig site

Both quite low mintage date+mm's and the quarter's condition is excellent.Either one is a trophy and you got two in a short time!
I misread the denoms. The half isn't particularly low mintage for that time period and denomination but the super condition makes up for that. I agree with Gold Seeker on the 1856-S quarter's scarcity although the ding in it takes its value down, unfortunately. Still would love to find something like that myself, though.
Both coins were maybe 2 feet apart. They both rang up 96 on the D2 and the half came out first. I was in awe because I wasn’t expecting this. Thank you for the replies everyone.

Yikes, when you post you post. It's been a while man, great to see ya back!
Like the background for the coins too. 🙂
It has been a while for sure and I don’t always post my finds. This one was kinda epic for me because I was just looking for spare change. Went back this afternoon and nothing but modern junk. I do really enjoy your posts. 😀

A couple weeks ago I took the wife gold panning/sluicing. That stuff is hard on my knees so, I fired up the D2 and just went walking down a short washed out road along the creek. Well after a few bullet casings I got a 96 X2 and this is what I popped out. Dumb luck or just lucky I guess. California Mother Lode keeps giving.

Long time Minelab user here. I canceled my Manticore order and place an order just before lunch and have received a tracking number already. I also ordered the big XP 280 back pack.
I am confident in learning the machine its just navigating the menu, Does anyone have a small cheat sheet on how to get around to the most used settings, maybe I could laminate it and carry it with me?
Cliff, I have had the D2 for a year now and it is just awesome. I use a 5 tone fast program mostly and have a lot of good finds. It is fast and light. It takes a few days to get used to it but it is worth your time, you won’t be sorry.

I watched and enjoyed that video. Thanks for putting in the time to give us something to watch.

Nice relics but damn those Avocados are the stuff! Really a nice garden Strick.

And a good day it was.

dog you are correct about the Charlie Horse. Under the trees is a crown cap nightmare so I’m sticking to the sand.

It has a chamfered inner and if wet or soapy slides right off so, buy a ring that bites the finger a bit.

Pretty cool ring and a great find.

Local lake is exactly one mile from my house. It was built in the 1880’s and started allowing recreation about 1917 as far as I know. I work swing shift so I have all morning to screw off and now that it’s kinda cooler, I’ve been hitting the lake. Nothing great so far but I found a ring that is gold in color but must be Carbide. It won’t scratch on the stone. It only has a CH marking inside. Here are a couple pics and I’m using the Deus 2. It’s kinda fun and different from my usual gold rush relics. I’m hoping for some gold rings as the lake drains in the fall.

California Gold right there. Cool!

Awesome story and recovery Strick. Not a fan of duck meat but people sit out there freezing to shoot them. I would think there are shotgun shells everywhere to hamper your recovery of the ring.

F350 it’s a bit smaller than a quarter and fairly thin. I was thinking it was a badge from an old gold detector. GB is right I probably should have put it in the gold forum but I’ll just let it sit here I think.
