  1. What size are your tent poles? Diameter and length. I have a bunch of poles in a box, a few sizes. Might have one you can use. I'm just over the hills in west point ca.
  2. Does anyone know where I can buy a new quick track button? Mine broke and all I ca. Find is the handle and button together. I ca. Probably fix mine but it would be nice to be able to find a new one. Thanks
  3. I hit the creek again and it turns out the spots where I am getting signals aren't in the shale. It's a harder black or dark gray stone. When I pursued one of the signals wit miy hammer and chisel I opened up a pocket that had a bunch of rust in it. The target was found with my GPX. Sorry about the confusion with the shale. That's where I thought it had been. Thanks for all the comments.
  4. There was a gold rush in Georgia 1829. Not sure if that is related to the mint
  5. I do have a gpx 4500. I am going to bring better chisels and try it again. Thanks
  6. I have been working a creek and have done fairly well. There have been at least 3 spots where there seem so be a strong signal in the bedrock , which is mostly shale. I keep a rock hammer and chisel in my bag and have tried to dig some out. I feel like it's just a particularly hot spot of ground, but I dont know that it is, they seem vary localized. Any thoughts?
  7. Just curious I'd anyone knows if the Detech boomarang coils are flat wound like delete and evolution coils. The shape of the housing suggests it. If so how do they compare to the similar evo and elite coils? Also anyone using one of the ultimate 15 dd coils? Thanks
  8. well the area i have been working is fairly low on trash so I will probably dig most targets until I get a better idea of whats going on. Thanks for all the advise. I will post my finds if any planning on going back Wednesday.
  9. This happened to me the other day. I hit a big signal with the GPX4500 and under it was the small bit in my other thread. Wouldn't have found it without the bullet. Not exactly the same but similar. Thanks I will look over The guides again.
  10. Thats a good idea, I get some flags or something. The last few days out have been awesome but I feel like I am missing lots of gold. Time to slow down and hit it hard. I'm thinking about getting one of the new evo or elite coils for my 4500. I like the looks of the 12x8 evo. I cracked my advantage coil the other day. I mostly hit creeks in my area. Its hard to stomach the price I dont know if its worth it for me yet. Thanks for the advise.
  11. Thanks for the advise I have the coiltek 5x10 and it does much better on small gold. In the pictures above I found the top 3 nuggets with the nugget finder advantage 14" and the bottom picture was with the coiltek 5x10 same area and about the same amount of different ground covered. I working a creek that I dont think has been hit before long hike in and steep canyon. Takes me 2 or 3 days to recover before I go back. Next time I am going to try my 11dd stock coil one way and then switch to the 5x10 on the way back and cover the same ground to see what happens. I will be covering mostly ground that I hit with the advantage coil.
  12. Thanks, I also love the monster. I have done fairly well with it. I will try the manual 10 idea. I have used at GM2, vsat, gmt, Infinium, xterra 705 and GB pro. Now my current lineup GM1000 and GPX 4500 have found more gold than all those before. I turned my GB pro into a pinpointed sort of thing for when I am using the GPX. Not sure how this will turn out but fun anyway.
  13. I was testing my 4500 today on a 2 gram nugget at 7"-8" and a 1 gram at 6"-7". I was able to hear the 2 gram with the gpx with all my coils 6x10 coiltec 14"x9" advantage and 11" dd commander. None of them could hear the 1 gram. Possibly a faint signal with the 6x10 coil. Does this sound about right? The soil is not too mineralized I was able to run the dd at 13 with no ground noise and the monos at 11 or 12. Also I have been detecting a new area lately and have found 9 nuggets from .6g to 2g. Picture below. The smallest was hiding under a bullet so doesn't count as a gpx find. Using the gpx. All of them were within 4"-5" from the coil in bedrock areas. I know there must be some under the areas of shallow gravel but I can't seem to find any there. I'm getting ground noise and false signals only. Thanks
  14. I have a GM1000 which I have found some gold with. I have been fairly happy with it until today. I was out testing some buried targets with my GPX 4500. The GPX is still new to me and I am trying to figure out the settings. Anyway I decided to run the GM over the targets. A 2 gram nugget at about 8" and a 1 gram nugget at about 8". The GM could see the 2 gram fairly easily but it was a strong iron signal. It couldn't see the 1 gram. I can run the detector on auto plus with only minimal falsing in this ground. I dug the nuggets up and checked them. In air good non iron signals all the way through the detection range. Then I put a chunk of dirt about 2" thick on them. Now I was getting solid iron signals. No noticable loss of depth but all iron. Just for f uh n I pulled out my gold bug pro. About the same depth as the GM but when it gave an I'd it was a gold ID never an iron ID fe bars were indicating 2 max. The GM gave an ID further out than the GB but it was an iron signal. The GB didn't give an ID until much closer but when it did it said gold. With the gold monster I wouldn't have dug those targets with the Gold Bug I would have. I know I should dig all targets in gold areas but part of the reason to have a VLF gold detector is to weed out at least some of the junk. Any thoughts? I have a question about the gpx in a seperate thread. Thanks
  15. Thanks for the information. I am going to take all three coils out tomorrow and test them in as quiet a place as I can find.
