  1. Here are the results from a day trip detecting the hillside between a ajor hard rock mine and a river containing alluvial gold. The gold I found has the character of reef gold and my future efforts detecting will be focussing upslope towards the source. The gpx 6000 with standard coil and no threshold is a potent combination in this area.
  2. The gold in the river may have travelled many kilometers from its source. Like others have said quartz is very common and rarely contains gold. Are there any known gold mines in the area? Focus your efforts where the old timers proved it.
  3. Hey Ned awesome gold. Do you have a photo of the ground for some context? Could have also been from a lack of water maybe. Or the strip was once a road or track used to cart the ore from the mine?

  5. My 3 favourite YouTubers are Two Toes, Goldfields Goose, and Victorian Gold Hunters. These keep me sane when between trips. Glen from vic gold hunters has a really good sense of humour and great knowledge of the old timer techniques. Two toes is a gold magnet and very knowledgeable. Goldfields goose great relationship with his mum and great videography imo.
  6. Well done mate great trip reportπŸ‘ You made the effort, had the swing you needed and found some gold as a bonusβš’οΈπŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―πŸ’ͺ
  7. Thanks i will definitely be sending mine back. I won’t be rushing in to get it updated though. I will wait till it is too hot for detecting. The way minelab have handled the issue is really poor. They should be contacting us. They know which detectors are affected and have our details from warranty registration. The market knows something is up. Codan shares down about 80 percent over the last yearπŸ€”
  8. It would be great to hear more feedback from members when available on the effects (if any) of the update on those using headphones. My 6 is an early model and I only use headphones. I am finding gold so am reluctant to send mine back.
  9. Not sure if anybody else has mentioned them but β€˜Victorian gold hunters’ on YouTube are my regular favourite! Glen and Ant are a great combo and glen is really good at reading the old timers diggingsπŸ‘
  10. Here’s a few crumbs from a day trip today for all the poor souls who own a 6000 like me… auto1 no threshold 11standard coil did the job and only 10 lead shotπŸ’ͺβš’οΈπŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―
  11. Great advice JP. I am guilty of focusing on those sweet shallow signals. Pesky buggers can get real frustrating after the first 20πŸ˜ƒ thanks πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―βš’οΈπŸ‘
  12. Also my favourite at the moment is Victorian Gold Hunters on you tube. Bloody funny bloke and wealth of knowledge. Check them out
  13. Gold Hound your you tube vids are what what got me into detecting! Your vid’s portray the ultimate adventure for me. Thanks πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―βš’οΈπŸ’ͺπŸ‘
  14. Results from my day trip today. Standard coil auto 1 no thresholdπŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―βš’οΈπŸ‘
  15. Some recent gold with the minelab standard 11 mono. If ground noise or emi is an issue I will generally run auto 1 no threshold. Give your ears and mind a break and let the detector work for you. Broke my pb twice that dayπŸ‘
  16. Good video. Manual 1 sensitivity seems to work for this bloke. .
  17. Very interesting and thanks for the explanation πŸ‘ yes I was running manual 1 and in difficult and still pinged 10 small bits for the day. The ground I detect is generally surfaced and shallow so I opted for a nice smooth stable threshold over depth. Funny my first 11 inch coil was faulty. Minelab sent me one back within the week. Great service. you will have yours paid off in no time πŸ‘βš’οΈπŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―
  18. Hi I was running the 6000 with the 11 inch coil in sensitivity 1. 2 gold targets that I got that day had a really warbly sound on surface a sound I generally think is trash. Targets firmed up nice an inch or two down. had not heard that before in the auto or plus settings that I usually run. Gold was .5gm and round like shot. I know that the warbly sound is a good indicator of gold on the gpx 7000 from watching Chrissy on outback gold adventures. Has anybody else experienced a very warbly signal response from gold with the 6000. Thanks
  19. Perseverance is the key. I think I dug 30-40 shot all in a row before snagging a bit last weekend. Ended up having a good session with 9 or 10 bits from a 10m2 area. If there is lots of lead then the ground has not been detected all that effectively! Amazed at how smooth the DD coil runs. Like a different detector.πŸ‘πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―
  20. My 11 mono coil was faulty out of the box. Struggled with it for a couple of trips (noisy/falling) before sending back to ML. They replaced the coil and the difference was night and dayπŸ‘A couple more gold nugget posts from JP in this thread. Heading to a very soggy goldfield tomorrow πŸ’ͺπŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦―πŸ‘
  21. Great video Karelian! Thanks. What type of drone do you use? Video quality is great!
  22. Bit of an update on my issues with the 11 mono. After 3 trips where I could not use my 11 mono I ended up sending it back to minelab and getting it swapped out for a new one. I just knew that something was not right. Minelab sent me a new coil and I tested it on the fields yesterday in the same spot that I was having troubles. What can I say the new coil they sent me runs like a dream!! Super smooth. No falsing and I even found a small 0.2g bit of crystalline gold at around 4 inches. Thanks Minelab!
