  1. Yeah…I was gonna say… Steve you know what you have achieved and what you want to do now. Can't think of a thing wrong with any of that. Have fun and dive into all the things that fascinate you. I will bet there will be some gold detecting down the line when the urge strikes you - and if it doesn't, that's fine too. The one thing I do hope you get constant pleasure and satisfaction from is this forum. It was your no b.s. approach to forum behavior that set the bar for all of us and look how well this forum almost polices itself. We've all come to learn that this is the way to make discussions worthwhile. That was you who did that. Good health to you.
  2. When I started out dredging in the late 1970s my mentor used to weigh some the gold he found on meat scales. I guess I was spoiled.
  3. I have been using the 12" NF coil on my 7000 for over two years. I have found ridiculously small gold with it and at depth as well. The weight shift alone makes it worthy, but it's performance makes it a must (in my opinion). I am sure X-coils are good too but the expense and the wiring changes make uninteresting to me. Also, I can't help but smile at all the discussion of tenths or hundredths of a gram flakes of gold. Not sure it really matters much whether the scale measures one or two decimal's, but again, just an opinion. I do know that the gents I learned detecting and dredging from wouldn't even bother to mention finding flakes that small much less make it the subject of endless discussions. Not being dismissive, just pointing out that times have changed.
  4. Dave, is it possible for you to put a larger pic up? I can't enlarge the photo enough to see the details (and the manufacturer). Thank you.
  5. You're right, it's a misplaced rant and unnecessary on this forum. It also doesn't apply to panning at all. Gold panning isn't going away under any circumstances.
  6. Excellent point Jim. I am wondering what the runoff will expose. What do you think? I sure miss dredging.
  7. Trust Jasong and Clay Diggins et al to jump into AI with both feet. Guys I admire and respect your forward-looking interests and hope you will continue to educate us. AI is upon us and the world has no idea.
  8. ooooh I love a good mystery. So how does this all work I wonder? So, to throw everyone off the scent of the real high value area that our Equinox amateur found, he moves it to another area that doesn't have the right geology for it? Yeah, that's probably it…or is it?… I cannot wait for the next chapter...🧐
  9. Gosh you never know, it might even have been that no-one ever dismissed it as junk because no-one ever walked over it before, and instead of wandering, maybe it was a guy, really plugged into his Nox, who found it with skill and persistence. Maybe…haha
  10. an eyeopener for sure…(starts charging up all the detector equipment)...
  11. Well congratulations for doing what many would not; take advice well. Good luck on those deep ones.
  12. Oh please…just my uninformed opinion but: if this thing worked, you would have had to get in line to find one - news of something that works in this field travels at the speed of light. And 45 meters in depth? Does it come with an excavator? I wish you well but do your homework. Good luck. If anyone has experience with this please tell us.
  13. That is some of the more spectacular gold we have seen on here in a long while. It's nice to know there are areas like this still out there. Thank you for sharing. I hope you are not overrun with "helpers."
  14. I'd be lying if I said I have filled in every hole…there are times I have left them unfilled so I can see where I have been, and then go back and fill them in all at once. There have also been times when I just didn't fill the hole in and I am not proud of it. But, most times I fill them in and always feel better when I do.
  15. That is hands down the best mining and prospecting outlet I've ever seen and far beyond anything I could have imagined. I especially love the variety of dredging equipment. It's been a long time since I was dredging and I miss it every day. Congratulations.
  16. It's funny that everyone here recognizes your affliction...
  17. Very descriptive and evocative account. I like the way you write. Now, for some detecting luck...
  18. Interesting first chapter. I hope things loosen up a bit in chapter two. Mexico is always interesting that's for sure.
  19. I wonder if others also notice that swinging (s l o w l y) twice over the same sweep area, many times brightens up what is an "iffy" signal on the first swing. I have found this to be true enough times to make it something I do as a matter of course when I'm in an area that requires careful detecting.
  20. This sat communicator works really well…it's cheaper than a Garmin and it works better.
