Injuries, Operator Errors, And A Little Gold
flakmagnet replied to californiagold's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Another vote for knee pads. I have had many instances where they have saved the day. Working in manzanita is not for the faint-hearted. That stuff will tear you, your clothes and your equipment - apart. Best of luck… -
Researcher Developing New Hand-held Gold Sensor
flakmagnet replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
What an interesting concept. Thanks for taking the time to keep us current with the latest thinking. It's fun to scratch the surface and learn a little. -
I know it's good to update the forum when you are able, but I don't like this format very much. That being said, I'll learn to live with it. This is still the best forum - by far - for people who love this hobby, or whatever you call it.

Garmin Rino, no one has put out a better gps/radio combination for keeping track of partners.

Nice going Fred. It's fun to watch your love affair with the GPZ progress.

Woody Detector Mods - Are These Legit or Bogus?
flakmagnet replied to jasong's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
Hi Gold Hound, I too have heard many good things about the Little Ripper over the years. It's too bad they are no longer available. -
Hi Lunk, That seems pretty much like what your post about not making decisions by the tones alone was alluding to. Nice shooting. I have a long way to go saving for a 7000, but every time I see a post like this I am inspired to keep squirreling the little modest amounts away. Best wishes and good hunting

GPZ Low-high Signals And High Yield Vs General
flakmagnet replied to jasong's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
Lunk you are so right. It is easy to get fooled by the tones. If it's making any sort repeatable tone, get after it. -
Heartbreak, But Darn Funny
flakmagnet replied to El Dorado's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Pretty funny satire… It's also listing that metal detecting will be an Olympic event in the future. -
Wireless Headphones Question
flakmagnet replied to Goldgetter's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
I have a rookie question about wireless headphones. Do they transmit the sounds as accurately as a wired set? Thanks… -
Security Issue - Posting Photos From GPS Enabled Devices
flakmagnet replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Meet & Greet
Klunker, Take your photos, get them developed however you do it and then take a shot of them with your smartphone and post them on the website… (half joking). -
Long sleeve shirt with an upturned collar and gloves help some (don't wipe your face if you're sweating). A quick change out of detecting clothes (wash the gloves!), as soon as you get back and Dawn 2X dish soap works as well as anything. …and like Shasta gold hunter says, clean your equipment - good point.

Security Issue - Posting Photos From GPS Enabled Devices
flakmagnet replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Meet & Greet
This is a way to turn off the information on your iPhone photos. In the settings, (read below), by checking "allow location access" to "Never" it keeps the location information from being recorded. (I'd like to see if a photo taken with the "Never" settings and then run through the program that Steve has, still has the location information in it.) "…If the idea of storing your location with each and every photo creeps you out, then you can easily turn off this geotagging feature by going to Location Services in the settings. Tap on Settings > Privacy > Location Services and then scroll down to the Camera app to make sure it is toggled off as shown above. When you turn off geotagging, it only applies to photos taken after you have turned off the location feature. Earlier photos will still keep their location data, so you will have to manually remove the location information before you share those photos." -
Level-headed and smart responses by both of you and the others. It's going to be a nice New Year's celebration for that woman. Nice work guys.

Winter Prospecting This Year, Reasonable Choices?
flakmagnet replied to 1515Art's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Smart advice Chris, Steve, Fred. Here in Illinois where we are temporary residents, we have learned to carry blankets; very handy if stranded in the cold where you don't want to run the vehicle out of gas. They make warm ones that maintain body heat really well and take up very little space. Those little portable jumper batteries are also worth their weight in gold if you need one. -
300 Tons Of Nazi Gold

Dang… another dream-crash… It was fun to contemplate though… -
Wow Fred, those look great.

Hi Paul, Have you tried working with a HipStick? You might find you are able to hunt longer with less strain. Best…

Ground Causing Constant Oscillation On The GPZ
flakmagnet replied to jasong's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
Jasong that question by Chris might be a clue. I have read that the 7000 coil cover collects a lot of fine dirt. -
I have owned four Minelab PI's. Their combined cost comes nowhere close to the value of the sheer pleasure and happiness using them has brought me, the experiences I have had and the friends I have made. Oh yes, I have found some gold too. Keep it going Lucky…you guys have a healthy attitude. It has nothing to do with money.

My Nugget Detecting Kit
flakmagnet replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
I like knowing the technology is there though…the range is disappointing and as you say Scott, the price steepish. The Garmin Rino (which is GMSR 5 watts), is the best way I have found to stay in contact with partners. but it's pricy too. -
My Nugget Detecting Kit
flakmagnet replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
Wow I like the gotenna Scott, a very handy addition to a detecting pack. I also sometimes pack a small strobe. They are amazingly bright at night and can be seen for many miles. -
Happy for the outcome although the way it came about was less than satisfactory. Maybe they should hire another tech in AZ.

OH BOY another video from Gold Hound! These guys deserve an award for great videos and interesting commentary. Thank you for taking the time, we all benefit from your efforts. Can't wait to have a few quiet minutes to watch it and learn.
