  1. I know Steve has already posted a direct link to purchase a 6000 protective cover directly from Australia, I just ordered this one off of eBay that claims to be made down under and sold directly from Double D fulfilled by eBay. If you are looking for said metal detector cover here is the eBay link to the Dbl D cover. https://www.ebay.com/itm/174749279148?hash=item28afde63ac:g:5jQAAOSwi61giRPe
  2. If it’s OK I’ll just add this to the Avantree thread, I doubt their are enough members interested in boosters and filters with the new 6000 to warrant a separate Bluetooth device thread and ear bud users would be better served I think with the built in Avantree earbuds anyway. I've no idea if I’ll even want to use anything other than the supplied ML BT supplied headphones but I’m curious if the SP01 can add anything to what and how my hearing responds to the signals. Not having a 6000 yet I connected the Bluetooth with just the earbuds to my TV the sound was good but a little muddy, adding the SP01 gave from a soft warm filter effect on mode 1 filter 3 to a very crisp tight sound over to setting mode 2 filter 1... Party Rock was tight clean crisp music, almost too much so but nice tight, and sharp retaining a full spectrum. I wonder also if anything can be gained by maxing out the output volume on the 6000 and limiting it to my ear with the sp01 or vice versa with the volume? so this is what I wound up with, the blue tooth, 2” cord (3” would have been better), right angle adaptor 3.5mm to 1/4, Bose ear buds.
  3. The issue I think is we don’t have our new toy yet, as soon as they are in our hot little hands all will be good and we’ll be to busy digging holes to speculate on anything. Going on here, all the banter more post (pre) incident stress debriefing than questioning any advice from anyone of our trusted experts, I can’t think of one single instance when anyone respected here has ever intentionally advocated here based on personal gain or ever acted in any way other that to do their best to help others and to support the activity of metal detecting and none more so that our host here Steve H. We’re just relieving a bit of stress impatiently waiting, hmmm nervously awaiting the new arrival. I know the list I’m on is long, my fingers are crossed the shipment is large enough I get one in the first batch, I put my trust and money in one of our resident experts a regular here and based on the number of preorders a lot of others trust the advice they get here too. Steve, the toughest part of being at the top is how seldom you get told what a great job you are doing, mostly people just are not in a position to evaluate the guy at the top this way and although universally everyone holds none higher than you, it gets unsaid. Trust too in the fact if circumstance ever changed and you were to find yourself the one in need the outpouring here would be widespread and generous. Thank you for all you do.
  4. Could be interesting If the GPZ is a one trick pony for Minelab or not if in fact it is truly deeper on big gold? will they discontinue sales and support or keep it in production, but then who would be willing to pay the price when the 6000 sells for less is lighter and everything else... enough buyers around the world to justify the cost of maintaining the line? the void in removing production of the 7000 might lead to a strong secondary market if killing it created a void and the coil chips in a similar situation to Jeep computers at commanding crazy prices for working units, nugget finder would be able to supply that I guess if the Z coil market was strong enough. Alas, ‘‘twas fun while she was pretty, the full hips athletic and seductive... oh, the years.
  5. Gerry and Steve, thanks for the great information and for sharing gold found with the various detectors along with your experienced, professional advice, tips... your patience with the questions and questioning, also the risk and this goes for all the dealers we seldom acknowledge the financial risks associated with submitting a large order on speculation. From everything I’ve seen so far I can’t wait to have one My money’s down and I on a list. But it is difficult to justify the cost a little I guess even the old 14” anchor performs admirably on the tinniest bits of gold and other trash, but running hot with a threshold is tiring the 7000 is chattery and I know the repeatable whispers are possibly out of reach reducing the sensitivity or lost in the chatter running wide open so it is hours of moving very slow and recovering ground on coil sweeps, throw in the EMI from helicopters refueling and atmospheric stuff and well, can’t get rid of all of that I know... but I am looking forward to being able to run auto hot no threshold on some known old pounded patches and see what comes up as well as patch hunting like a Steve mentioned it is clear why the 6000 will excel at patch hunting as it excels at finding the tiny bits that remain in far greater numbers in undiscovered patches and with less effort. I agree the 7000 still has promise and a place for now, also if you think about it, it would make better sense from a marketing standpoint to release the 6000 if it outperforms the 7000 ahead of any software upgrades or new 7000 if you believe the demand for early adoption of better technology will convince GPZ owners to jump on board. Then in a year or four the Zed software release that completely decodes all that chatter... they can call the software version “Rosetta 1.0” with accurate iron identification as well as a host of other metals including aluminum. Ahhh, you mean I’ve got a chance, lol. So, Nugget Finder take note the timing on this 12” coil is difficult to understand or just unfortunate in consideration of any licensing agreements but BIG coils like the 22” X coil will be in high demand everywhere for the 7000 unless that is they become available for the 6000 first?
  6. That’s what I was looking for with a full brim it just wasn’t available here.
  7. That looks like it’ll do the job and keep the pads of the detector off the ears, nice choice. The hat I actually find keeps me the most cool and comfortable is one I found out shopping for the largest brim I could find at the time for some reason there weren’t that many choices locally. Walmart had nothing really in the men’s dept that was going to provide much protection, but they had a couple in the ladies section so I grabbed the one that gave the most shade and headed to the checkout counter, lol. This is a woven straw hat that has great ventilation a really wide brim, super lightweight and once I cut the fancy band off reasonably normal looking, not that I care... the parasol effect works great and having my shoulders protected from the sun is noticeably cooler and the hat is comfortable all day long. I pair it with one of those gel bead filled evaporation cooling neckerchiefs and I’m fairly comfortable in the Arizona summer heat, to a point. My earbud bonnet.
  8. Ha, now that you mention it that is a major flaw, one of those things nagging away in the background a pebble in the shoe that can’t be removed slowly drilling down as the shadows grow long. A giant screw would at least help keep the hat in place in high wind, lol. Wes, those look pretty good I’ll have to get one I’m slowly toasting to a nice shade of toasted leather.
  9. Hats off to Minelab, hats off to you all, hats as giveaways, I’ll throw my hat... you get it, but doing a search of past topics didn’t hit many if any results on protection from the sun and detecting comfort on a search although a topic buried in here in places I’m sure. Mitchel mentioned a hat solution in a discussion thread with Norvic for using headphones with the 6000 and it got me looking to see what was available at the moment if I want to use headphones instead of my preferred earbuds I have to ditch my wide brim sun hat for a ball cap and put up with the heat of the sun on the back of my neck and shoulders. I was going to convert that hat with hot glue and Velcro to headphone ready but decided to try a commercial version first. Looking around there were only a couple of options, one a sporty outback looking hat be fit on any fashionable lad that I liked but the sun protection was minimal so I ordered a stingray brand audiophile hat that looks like it should be good with the 6000’s headphones. anyone here tried one of these out or have another solution, what’s your preferred protection from Mother Nature and to stay comfortable detecting?
  10. Klunker cheers, gambai, a toast to inebriation, booze and free detectors... yes of course if you want to insert a dose of reality in our fantasy of opening up old patches with new and improved technology, well yes then what you say is true enough and I would never think of casting a shadow of doubt on your wisdom I frame it instead in my book of prospecting, 😀. this is not an unfamiliar path, “deja vu all over again,” to quote, Pre order on the 7000 with no regrets with one exception I missed the first two years from lack of experience, the GPZ changed the landscape a lot a first if you had a clue what you were doing and where to look, I didn’t. Things have changed 6 years of persistence my techniques improved and I’ve banked a list of places to hunt. I don’t think It’s the same thing the same way expecting different results, a preponderance of the evidence says guilty as charged GPX6000 caught red handed signaling targets and finding tiny gold missed by the GPZ, sentencing to include several years banging around in the back of my Jeep and having your skid plate molested on rocks constantly. So I guess for me the performance of the 2300 was interesting and I’d rather see it showing it’s stuff maxed out most all the time mine ran OK at max, I’d have preferred to see the 7000 set the same way to that’s how I’m running it and the difference between them what I’m after whatever the conditions. Take that with all the other real world shots of the 6000 in action and a pretty clear picture begins to develop and that picture looks like a pile of little gold nuggets that we’ve been walking over, at least that’s what the gambles about, lol. don’t forget, lightweight... no ornaments and fits easily in a backpack And the bottle is on me bartender one for the house.
  11. Paul, I was surprised too, all I can say is I never really gave it a fair chance and after seeing that I should have, damn... perfect hand down for my son he travels a lot and backpacks and is already making plans, lol. I’m happy it’s got some punch. The audio response was pretty impressive I’ve seen enough to become a believer, sure you can doubt the performance claims if you want maybe someplace someone likes to sell detectors... nothing wrong there, I like buying them I guess, lol as long as they’re good. The thing you can’t doubt is the credibility of the friends we know here. the money saved on good advise far outweighs the money spent... ha, lol maybe not, but you get my point, Thanks Steve and everyone for sharing so freely. I still think my Z has a place with a large x coil, I think...
  12. If this has been posted here already I missed it, sorry. But, wow...
  13. I wasn’t going to, really... at least not at first anyway then it all begins to add up. I’m doing more exploring trying to get into the more remote locations, I have a 2300 but as good as they are I’ve never warmed up to it that much and it’s noticeably less sensitive than the 7000 so not ever my first choice. Seems no question the 6000 is equal to if not better sensitivity wise on the small stuff and good on everything else, set up is fast and the detector light. I’m 68 and although I’m still able to swing the GPZ from sunrise to sunset I’m feeling it more and more, a three day trip takes 3 days to recover from. I’ll keep the 7000 and my plan is to make a place for it outfitted with the 22” x-coil when they are available and possibly a spiral x-17 as well it’ll be my dedicated deep detector. The SDC2300 I will give to my son in Colorado, although there may be some benefit shallow water diving I can’t see my self doing that more than once or twice now that im living in southern Nevada.
  14. Jim, I’ve got an 11” Deus low frequency coil you can have if you want you’d need to pick up a controller, charger and probably the underwater adaptor for the wireless to work, but the coil being basically the detector and as light weight as it is might work for what you need and cost less overall than another whole detector.
  15. There’s some serious Aussie digging tools if you need a deep hole just check and see what’s being used there, seems lately most of my targets are 5” down or shallow surface trash the reason I quit carrying the large apex most of the time. I’ll have to remember that Chevron weld technique, 👍. it gets serious if I walk to close to my Jeep, lol.
  16. I like carrying my small Apex pick but it’s always left me wanting a bit more when digging the blade is a narrow scraping down on a target but I’ve put up with it because it’s lightweight and digs OK. A couple months ago the bracket welded onto the rear bumper holding my spare tire and aux fuel tank cracked and was starting to flop around held mostly in place by the large bolt the swing out arm pivots on. The bumper actually works well with the exception it’s breaking and a new setup would run me $1500 to $2000 so I decided to teach myself to weld on YouTube and bought myself a little mig/tig welder, fixing the bumper has gone well so far and I’ve branched out to other projects modifying my picks and a few other things. On my small apex pick I add two small wings with 1/4 weldable steel one to each side widening the pick from 3” to 5” and creating a scoop out of the blade, I also slimmed down the pointed side to compensate for the added weight of the blade and shaped the point better for getting down into and between the desert rocks. If this works well I’ll modify the Apex Tallon next.
  17. If there’s gold in the area and you take it slow you’ll find it, good luck.
  18. A loooong time ago I worked for an electronics company one of my jobs was making and soldiering wiring harnesses for this small at the time hand held marine radio. I’m fairly decent at soldering, but you are right it’s easy to overheat those fine tiny wires without a real quality solder station and I don’t want to take the chance if I can hire someone who does it everyday. When I need it I’m having your guy do it👍.
  19. Rick and Lunk, thanks very much I try my best to emulate what you guys do, Rick we were just talking about you and your good deeds... your generosity and how you conduct yourself is an example for everyone to strive for.
  20. Everything you say is spot on and my plan pretty much mirrors yours, I’m sweeping crumbs with a chattery maxed out 7000 going super slow, but know I’m missing some faint ones. With the new coils running just a tiny bit smoother maxed out the same settings that’s what I’m curious to see. There was some secrecy around the details making the patch lead, I could never understand the reasoning for that, anyone wanting to reverse engineer only need buy the coil and the mystery involved in its production one of the major obstacles in my view, is it still somewhat the same?
  21. Thanks JP, good news for us although sorry you all are in the squeeze at prime hunting season. There are a few coils I think I want. I’ll get the NF when one is available I’m committed to pulling the trigger, Then I’ll sacrifice the old 14” sort of I know it will still work and try some of the x coils? Norvic, there’s a whole add campaign there if the want it “x-ray’td” coils, see deep down n dirty. Some tasteful graphics... Mitchel, I’m ready to go back, I was actually thinking about doing a day trip on Tuesday there’s a pile of dirt I want to test with my little drywasher and then a spot or two I want to look at that’s supposed to be open.
  22. Sweign Thanks, I love the 7000 it’s all I really ever use I’ve swung it since the release in 2015 and it is hard to imagine it misses much, guess I’m watching intently on reports for the 6000 (not 600, lol) and waiting on the new nugget finder coil although as the days tic by I’m inching ever closer to just going x-rated... starting to look like the logical choice.
  23. It’s exciting when a new detector emerges, none more so than a new top notch gold getting machine from Minelab and the new GPX 6000 is as exciting as it gets. Just a little reminder about the virtues of the GPZ/14” an older brother he may be a little thick in the middle but this heavyweight can still sniff out a few crumbs in the pounded terrain in the desert of Gold Basin Arizona, from a few recent hunts.
  24. GPAA and GSSN both have claims out at gold basin with easy access as far as having to walk as most of the dirt roads can be navigated with 2 wheel drive there are plenty of areas to park near spots to detect. The gold however is going to require some work tiny pieces can be few and far between and will require some luck, there is the added benefit out there of the occasional meteorite.
  25. Mitchel, now that’s 24K gold...I nominate you for find of the year!!!
