  1. While I don't have a Manticore yet (and I may wait for the CTX4040 😉), I've been following the development and release closely. I'm thinking, as SteveH and others have surmised, that the Manticore was not intended as a gold machine, even though there is a gold mode, and that it was intended as a coin and jewelry machine to replace their aging silver slayer, the E-Trac.

Again as SteveH has mentioned, the Equinox was a proof of concept release to test their Multi-IQ technology in coin, jewelry, relic, and native gold hunting and it passed with flying colors. Minelab then released their new gold seeking PI machine, so the next thing to replace was the coin hunter machine. And if Minelab logic follows, the replacement for the old Excaliber II should be next and then the replacement for the CTX3030.

These are just some opinions, I could be wrong.

Gettysburg was memorable for me, went there in the 60s with my parents. Even then it had a somber aura, almost like there were ghosts. Never forgot it. It was when we moved to Virginia (the first time).

For a long time I had my great grandfather's 1863 Springfield, he got a lot of citations for using it. None after him did military service until I did. Sadly my dad needed money so he sold it to the historical society. 😭

So sorry about your '63 Springfield. I went to Gettysburg with my parents when I was about 10 and always wanted to go back. We spent three days there and it is a very somber place. You can feel more than history there, it's extremely moving. Manassas, or Bull Run, had a very similar feel.

To be honest, I would have no problem ever buying another coil and just continuing to use the 9” coil.  That 9” coil is the goldilocks of coil sizes….at least for the D2 and the hunting I do.  If I need something smaller I have my nox set up and ready to go with the 6” coil.  In reality I don’t think a larger or smaller coil for the D2 would pay for itself with finds over and above what the 9 will get.  Maybe if I did a lot of beach hunting…maybe?  BUT, it’s always fun to buy a new toy and have specific tools for specific jobs!  I guess I’m just rambling here.  Lol

Well outa likes again, but you're absolutely right NCt. I will end up getting a larger coil to have for the stable but will use the 9" primarily because it works great for my hunting sites. The only reason I want that 9.5x5" is to get into tight crevices and in between dense foliage like trees, cacti, bushes, etc, that the 9" round can't get into, and to not have to change to another detector to do it. Call me lazy, but just I want to detect with my D2, and if that's wrong, I don't want to be right. 🤣

It's a me issue I haven't broken down in mind far enough to handicap myself other then digging 1 way, cracked, broken iffy signals which snowballs into 40 more every hole this happens causing 5 more to follow self depreciation detecting! Sorry I should clearly state the issues all fall between my ears and my desire/long time coming finding of what I know is general w e jones and a camp on a site that's just tip top tough to begin with. It's truly a dig and you'll have several to many bits o metalic in every hole yard to 300yds out in a field it's nutty.

Well, too many targets is a good kind of problem to have, LOL! Maybe just shovel everything into a sifter to sort it all out. 😉

I've never read up on this mineralization stuff, I live in sw tip va and never get a gb under 78 and usually don't gb. 3 to 5 bars on d2. 9" maxish depth on quarters, minie balls n most things even on nox so I assume the dirt to have mineralization but that's only educated assuming. Comparing others performance to mine education lol many time 6" minie ball only sounds off one way and broken to notta the other!? Any quick opinion or lessons would be appreciated

Ground balancing is always a good idea. Mineralization affects machine response and mineralization of soil is not usually uniform, but varies, sometimes greatly, across an area of ground. It's probably more uniform in farm feeds as a result of fertilization.

I don't have many minnie balls where I hunt, but they are made of lead and can vary in shape quite a bit, specially fired ones. So the shape and irregular surface will affect the way it sounds off in different directions.

  6. Well, that's a lot, lol! First, have you made any changes to the machine since you started the site, changes in coils, software updates, program tweeks, etc?

Is eveything fully charged?  That sound dumb, but low voltage can make electronics do some strange things.

Have you tried doing some air tests or even test garden tests off of the site? That would help eliminate or expose machine problems.

There is some discussion of the D2 affected by silent EMI which can come or go depending on the source. Maybe do a frequency scan or manually change the frequency at the site. Also try single frequency mode between 10kHz-17kHz and see if anything improves.

These are just some ideas to try. I'm no expert, but when things change drastically at a site you are hitting over and over, look for the possible source of the change. It could be the equipment, the settings, the environment, or it could just be cleaned out.

    Hope that helps.

  7. Wow, that place looks awesome and a little overwhelming! Well done again picking out the good stuff. I don't think it matters that it was hunted before. There's always something left. It just takes a little research, dedication, persistence, skill, and luck to pull the things others missed and you tick all those boxes, well done!

You know, if you get overwhelmed by the sheer size of all your permissions, maybe you could host the first annual F350 Platinum Invitational Hunt for the Detector Prospector Forum. 😉

    Thanks!

Hope you're not getting sick of me, Cap'n 🤣 for 3 hours that was awesome! Didn't care if it rained.

No way, man, I enjoy everything you post! I get to see history and places I seldom get to. My wife and I did a trip to Philly, Gettysburg, Manassas, and DC a few years before I got bit by the detector bug. It's probably a good thing I wasn't into detecting then because I'd still be rotting in jail for whipping out a detector on Little Roundtop. 🤣

  9. Now I'm rethinking this whole thing. I mainly just want another coil to make a WS Master rig and to also have as a backup. I got the 9" with the D2 almost a year ago and haven't really needed a larger coil.

I had the 6", 11", and 12x15" with my previous detector and 98% of the time I just used the 11", until the 10x5" came out, then I just used the 10X5" and never used anything else. I originally got the 12x15" coil for large sports fields and the few times we went to the beach on vacation, but in both types of locations, I remember I ditched the 12x15" and just went with the 11" and 10x5" to save weight, which at my age is preferable to gaining an inch or two coverage per swing.

I realize the D2 and D2 coils are much lighter, but let's look at the breakdown:

    9" coil = 345g (12.17oz)

    11" coil = 470g (16.57oz)

    11x13" coil = 570g (20.11oz)

    9.5x5" coil (if it existed) = 300g (10.58oz)

To go from the 9" to 11" coil adds 125g (4.4oz), but to go from the 9" to 11x13" coil adds 225g (7.95oz).

I can handle lifting a quarter pound. I do it at McDonalds all the time. But adding a half pound is something I'll have to think more about.

Now if the imaginary 9.5x5" coil weighed 300g (10.58oz), then that would knock off 45g (1.59oz)!

So add 1/4 pound or 1/2 pound or lose a couple of ounces... I think I see which would be the best way to go. 😏

  10. MG is good stuff. I use the 419E Acrylic Conformal Coating Aerosol Spray to waterproof circuit boards with great results. Use it in a well ventilated area and wear a mask, it fairly toxic to breath in.

    Hello to evrebody,

I decide post here my dude/question knowing that it is not the specific ""Cuore"" of this discussion but it is the only one that on the DEUS II foro ( the only one that I follow, because I am user of one of them) all speak about the combination of the satellite information and pictures...

Well my interest in a kind of mix with this issue will be if some body know where and how( just in case to will be posible) I can find the most recently satelital pictures of the Planet ( Spain will be nice..., and with no more than 30 days old).

The reason it is that here the 95% of the ancient sites where we realize our hobby are farms, piece of land with different crops and they have obiously diferents time tables into the plows times, crops time etc.

Each day before to decide which place will be visited for us we must guest about the actual conditions and psobilities to enter there.

I believe that you know perfectly what I would like have each morning before depart to the farms

    beste regards in advance

Hello vincente, I understand that you want to see current conditions of your fields so you can decide which would be best for hunting on a certain day. Unfortunately, I don't know of a website that has that recent satellite maps. I generally just use sites like Google Earth to look at satellite images for research, but even those can be a few years old. Maybe someone else knows of newer satellite data that we can access.

Here from euro with love I would like test, check on the ancients Spanish sites your settings apply on general program.

I have a rare soil... without a big mineralization but really special. I am using the DEUS II for more than a year and also obiusly many other  MD and always I am finding this limitation with the soil. Other friends very very expetimentted have the same feeling/probleme with the soil.

Left under your decision my petition...

Regards and kisses from the lovely and ancient Spain.

Hey guys, this is not my program so I can't share it, but you can contact @F350Platinum , he is the creator of the Relic Reaper program and a super nice guy. He can tell you all about it.

That's a nice hunt. So sad Michelle lost her bunny pendant! 😀 And the pipe is a hoot, that one looks more for weed than crack, but I don't know much about either. 🤣

I'd only give those settings out for experienced D2 folks that can change them to suit, yeah, it's going to find everything, but you get a choice. It's really like running the Equinox flat out in all metal, but way more accurate. The only thing to play with is reactivity, even when it's trashy I don't go over 2.

Sorry about the "bomb" sounds on shallow iron and aluminum. 🫣 Told ya you might want to turn iron volume down, but I'd say it is more than 75% sure on iron, and your trash shows that. 👍 I think it's pretty good with co-located non ferrous too. 🙂

Looks like you got some period buttons, and what the heck is that bulb looking thing on the top left?

Awesome hunt Cap'n, and thanks for giving it a shot. 👍

Yeah, that probably is a pot pipe, because that's one thing we have plenty of in Colorado. The bulb shaped thing is a butane lighter for pipes which kind of goes with the theme there.  🤣

I will say that I'm not done with your Reaper program. I ran it stock but with the Big Numbers screen instead of the XY screen. I intend to experiment much more with it as I can see the potential there. It did well in mineralized soil and it was easy to tell iron from non-ferrous. I didn't mind the louder response on shallow items as I had my volume reduced a bit. It just surprised me a few times when listening for deep targets and swinging over some shallow trash. It reported depth well even on large objects so I think this is going to be very useful. I thank you for sharing it with me! I also think it would be very popular with detectorists overseas in those European fields. 😎
