  1. Wow, dogo, congrats on the wheatie and buttons! That Tallio sleeve button is amazing, well done!
  2. Good job, glacialgold! Personally I love finding wheaties which are getting scarce where I live. Heck I even get a little rush from finding a copper memorial instead of a zincoln... pretty sad, huh? 😉
  3. Thanks for posting, Geologyhound, Againstmywill, and dodog. I found a bunch of those near an old demolished railroad station and couldn't figure out what the heck they were. They sure sound sweet in the ground and masquerade as IHPs until you pop them out. 🙄
  4. That's the Million Dollar question. Iron nails, straight, broken, bent, or otherwise are the relic hunter's curse. Shallow nails can be somewhat mitigated by the Silencer or by using Relic mode with a higher IAR setting. Also, this thread has a video from the Gary which gives tips on hunting in iron:
  5. Dang, SohN, those are awesome finds, congrats and well done! As far as the unknown button goes, I have no idea.
  6. There has been much discussion posted about how small coils handle EMI better. It's mostly physics. Smaller coil, less ground and EMI samples to analyze, less filtering required by the processor, more efficient operation.
  7. I was expecting Manticore owners to chime in here as much of the new patented coil design of the M-Core was designed to help fight EMI. I suspect a lot of their new designs incorporate EMI mitigation to compensate for their higher transmit power.
  8. I have a feeling that it's more than just WiFi that is a problem. The airwaves are more congested than a Friday rush hour in LA and getting more congested by the day. As our exploding populations spend more and more of their lives on their wireless devices the demand for bandwidth rises exponentially and Wifi, Cellular, Radio, Microwave and other wireless device manufaturers increasingly battle for more bandwidth usage and this is just the private commercial sector. We live in a soup of man-made EMI transmissions and that soup is thickening to a paste. So enjoy what usage we can get with the newest detectors while we can. At some point we may have to go back to closed system hard-wired detectors with massive shielding just to find an irradiated zinc penny laying on the surface of the ground in our electro-magnetic shielded hazmat detecting suits. Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. 😏
  9. I haven't had any hardware problems yet after a year of hard use and I even use it to "weed wack" tumble weeds on ghost town sites, however I'm not a diver. There are quite a few shaft options available for diving and land use including XP's Dive Shaft and the awesome carbon fiber shaft by Steve's Detector Rods. As far as the rest of the hardware goes, I have no complaints.
  10. Check to see if the USB port on your computer is USB 1 or USB 2 or above. There have been problems reported with some USB 1 ports working with the update programs because they require a faster data rate than USB 1. If your computer's USB port has a White plastic insert, it is USB 1. Any other color is higher speed and will work fine. Sometimes just switching to a different USB port on the computer will make it work. Also try switching to a different USB data cable (not the 3-way charge cable) to see if that works. Hope that helps.
  11. Great hunt, dogodog, and congrats on the Franklins, well done!
  12. The CZkidd has a couple of videos that shows how Sensitivity and Reactivity interact with each other regarding two silver targets at depth. One with the 11" coil and this one with the 9" coil. Of course that will vary depending on ground conditions, but I found it interesting.
  13. That's interesting, Carolina, thanks! I've heard of folks using beach sens on land but haven't tried it yet. I'll have to give it a try!
  14. Awesome finds, well done! I bet you're right about the bayonet being lost by a kid playing with it. 😉
  15. Way to play the hunches, Erik, well done and congrats on the gold! I was wondering if you had crocks down there. Language can be fun, here crocks and thongs evoke a very comical picture in the head. 😏
  16. Very cool finds, John, well done! You got a square nail so there should be some other older objects waiting to be discovered, maybe now that you cleared some of the newer finds they will reveal themselves. Good Hunting out there!
  17. I've noticed that reducing the sensitivity a bit can reduce the iron falsing. I usually run at 96, but in a high iron zone, I'll usually kock that down to 92 or so and it helps. I have also noticed that an iron false may flash a brief non-ferrous line on the display but will mainly show as a ferrous line on the display and a non-ferrous object in iron will mainly display a non-ferrous line.
  18. I use the Paww Dual Sound 2 earbuds. They are APTX-LL and do pair with the Equinox 800 and 600. They are getting hard to find but here's a used set on Ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/295567843524
  19. Plus one on the Deus 2 for relic hunting in iron and mineralized ground. I upgraded from the Equinox 800, which I still enjoy, but it cannot match the Deus 2's ability to pick good targets out of iron infested ground, specially with the 9" coil. And a Deus 2 Master setup can be had for $799.
  20. Awesome finds! That bullet looks like it's from a Smith's Carbine as well. Well done!
  21. I think you have received good information here. Going to a detector store and getting a feel for the detector and coils before you buy is an ideal situation. My closest XP dealer is 5 hours away so that's not practical for me, but if you can then I think that will help you make your decision. There is nothing like getting to feel the real product. Regardless of which you choose, I think you will be very happy when you get out in the field with it. Best of Luck!
  22. Great snags, Sirius, you got to jump on situations like that, well done!
