A Little Bit Of Silver Today
CPT_GhostLight replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Looks like a great day for a hunt! Congrats on the War Nickel, Wheaties and old buttons, and specially the hammered Roman pull tab, those are even more rare than the Civil War ring pull you found! 😉 Well done! -
Well that's a great way to kick off a new year, congrats again!

Great looking finds, well done!

What Is Expected In The Upcoming Update?
CPT_GhostLight replied to Skate's topic in XP Deus II Forum
Since I'm relatively new, getting back into detecting a few years ago, I am pretty darn happy with the Deus 2 so far even with it's quirks. I started back up with the Equinox 800 after being out of the game for 30 years and it changed what I thought I knew about detectors, which wasn't really very much. Learning the Nox upped my game quite a bit, but I really started learning how much there still was to learn when I got the D2! I realize it has a steeper learning curve because it has many more nuances and gives me so much more control to learn. So while I'm looking forward to the next round of improvements in the coming update, I'm pretty happy using V0.71. I get finds every time I'm out with the D2 and I learn something more every time I use it. I just hope the new update doesn't put me back in the dark, but I don't think it will. Just my 2 cents. 😎 -
Well that's something you don't find every day. Congrats on the sweet hunk of silver!

A Summary Of My First Season With The Deus 2
CPT_GhostLight replied to Brad Plohman's topic in XP Deus II Forum
That's how I understand it too. If you Disc at 7, everything 7 and below will sound like iron. However, for some reason that does not apply to Full Tones. If you use Full Tones, you have to Disc at 0 or below to hear any iron tones. -
A Few Hours Out Comparing The 13"and 9" Coils (update)
CPT_GhostLight replied to F350Platinum's topic in XP Deus II Forum
Very cool finds again F350! So would you say you use the 9" coil more than the 13" coil? -
I agree it would be a nice feature to have. Maybe it will be in a future update. Before I got the D2, I always used vibration only on my pinpointers because I don't like to draw attention when I'm digging a target. But I haven't really missed using vibration with the MI-6 because the audio is through the headphones only and no one seems to notice it when I'm pinpointing a target in the ground. So for my type of hunting, as long as the MI-6 is paired to the D2, I don't think I need vibration, but that's just me.

Is It Possible To Waterproof The Ws6?
CPT_GhostLight replied to CPT_GhostLight's topic in XP Deus II Forum
Thanks guys. I was aware of that setup which Jeff had mentioned before, and it's not a bad way to go, but F350 and I were discussing ideas for an at least water resistant solution using the puck mounted on the shaft, ala WS6 Master, so that the VID can be easily seen. -
The way I see it, the Manticore and probably EQ 700/900 releases were rushed to market just like the other two recently released machines to meet peak buying cycles and compete with the other products. It has become common practice to get your machine out there and fix the problems afterwards with all detectors (and most other products) and all of them are not finished products yet. Look at how many cars have factory recalls years after being released and sold. So I'm not surprised by any problems that show up in the early days of product releases and really it makes much more sense to wait on buying anything new these days. Just my current opinion.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all! Here's a topic that F350 brought up in another thread. I didn't want to hijack that thread so I'm starting a new one. Is there a way to waterproof or at least increase the water resistance of the WS6 Puck and still be able to mount it on the stem adapter on the shaft? I thought about putting the puck in a smaller (3-3.5") zip lock bag and pushing it back into the stem adapter. That might also provide an attachment point for the antenna wire to be near the puck so you could submerse the coil. I know the puck wouldn't be submersible, but it might keep water from wave splashes from soaking it. Has anyone tried to do something like this to use the WS6 Master setup on the beach near the water?

That's an interesting question. I don't know of anyone who has tried that yet, but it seems like it would work. It would be easy enough to test. 😎

So The Beach Hunts Start Again
CPT_GhostLight replied to schoolofhardNox's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
That's a great start with the Manticore. As you get more comfortable with it, I'm sure you'll hit the gold with it too. Congrats on the silver! -
First Beach Run Of Steve's Deus II Shaft
CPT_GhostLight replied to ColonelDan's topic in XP Deus II Forum
Well I'm all out of likes for the day... where can I buy a few extra likes? 😏 But great report, Col, and I echo that sentiment. Steve's shafts are works of art by someone who really knows his craft. They are unrivalled in the field. -
Old Gold Ring About To Celebrate Its 130th Birthday
CPT_GhostLight replied to Dcraun's topic in Metal Detecting For Jewelry
I remember you posting that ring. What an incredible find! -
What a great hunt and excellent assortment of WWII era finds! Those buttons are WWII era Army issue and were usually found on jacket sleeves and shoulder tabs. The brass US insignia was mounted on the jacket lapel with a coin-shaped brass screw back. Congrats again on all the cool finds and a silver dime to boot, well done!

I think Gigmaster shows how to cut that antenna wire down to a shorter length and reuse the clip in one of his videos.
