  1. That's a great haul, Cd! It looks like the D2 is treating you right or visa-versa. 😉 Congrats on the minne balls, button and it also looks like you got a silver thimble too, well done!
  2. The mystery item is about 1.3" long and a hair over 1/2" wide. It is in the group photo between the blue marble and the suspender clips for a reference. The VID on the D2 was 42-43. It is a softer metal like lead maybe. I was going to try to unfold it, but stopped myself. Yes I rarely find an intact bottles too. But I do collect "interesting glass" pieces for my wife. The bottom edge of the bottle was just visible and I was going to grab it because of the different shape. When it didn't move easily I started to carefully dig it and discovered it was intact. 🙂
  3. That's a good point, Doc. The last time I removed the coil cover to clean it out I noticed that my coil bottom does have scratches from the sand and dirt that gets in there. They're not deep scratches but definitely noticeable. So it might not make a big difference just to leave it off. Something to think about. 🤔
  4. I was invited to go back to the coal mining ghost town last week with the DTC (Deus Two Crew). @Glenn in CO made a post yesterday showing the hot streak he was on and he was on fire! We were having our own mini hurricane in Colorado that day while Nicole was ravaging the treasure coast of Florida. Our winds hit gusts of 65 MPH and it was a challenge just to stay upright at times. For a while I played bowling for tumbleweeds as eveytime I swung the coil I'd tap one and it would snap off and go racing a mile down the track. I started off running the Relic program but soon switch to my modified Fast program which is based on the Silver Slayer program, but with the lower notch topping out at 35 and no second higher notch. That's when I got a sweet sounding 83 popping out of the iron carpet and it turned out to be an oval shaped brooch with the pin still on it. Unfortunately the stones that once encircled the brooch were long gone. I kept working my way from one old house foundation to the next. Most of them were not giving up anything but trash when I found one that turned up a few buttons, so I slowed down to a crawl and gridded that one by inches. Everyone else was getting some coins and I was getting skunked in that department, but when I reached a break in the remains of a wall, I hit a strong 86 just on the edge of the broken stone. "This is it!", I thought, "Maybe a Wheat or Indian Head!" Well it was neither. As I dug down next to the stones I noticed a rounded edge poking through that was much larger than a penny and thought it must just be a lid to something. When I saw a small hole and design I thought this might be something good and whipped out my phone to document the extraction. As I pulled it out, I could see writing on it and thought I might know what it is. I ran over to show one of the other detectorists and he said, "Oh you found a miner's penny". I said, "What the heck is a miner's penny? Is it a token or something?" Then he said, "Wait a minute, this is a miner's identification tag and it has the name of the mine on it. You might have the find of the day!" So I asked what was the difference was. He explained that a "miner's penny" was a tag with a number on it that the miners would use to check in and out of a mine. Several miners would use the same tags as shifts changed. The ID tag was issued to each miner when they signed on to the mine and they had to keep it on them at all times while they lived and worked there. So apparently those are fairly rare. He said he's never found one from this site, and he thinks Glenn is the only one who has that he knows of. I had to obscure the town name on the ID tag because this permission is private property now and the land owner requested we don't post the name of the location. So at the end of the day I found some pretty cool things including some buttons, suspender parts, a flattened tea strainer and salt shaker top, a flattened bottom to a miner's oil lamp, some clock parts and the back and bezel to a Waterbury Clock Co clock with patent dates of 1890-1892, other odds and ends. Even though I didn't find any coins this trip, all in all it was a great time and I really appreciate the people that have taken me under their wing to help teach me the ropes! The second button is dome shaped and was the top of a two piece button. There's something on the button face but too corroded to tell what it is. The real mystery item this hunt was this. When I first saw it I thought it could be a cut Reale and almost peed my pants! But it appears to be a folded over stamp or seal or something? Any ideas? And the junk...
  5. Yep, I did the same thing with my Nox. The 15" was great, but it's surprising how just a few extra ounces will wear you out faster on long hunts (well me anyway). The 9" on the D2 is heaven for me, so it's hard to justify going any larger for the places I hunt. If I get back to a beach though, I'll probably opt for the 11".
  6. Well I'm still not sure about the 13" coil, but now I'm considering the 11". 🙄 However, for the kind of detecting I do primarily, I still feel like holding out for the 10x5" coil. 😏
  7. Dang, those are some more great finds! What an awesome location and congrats on so many cool saves, but the rosette, gilded buttons, and seated half dime are my faves. Well done! So did the centering device on the 11" coil help any with the arm fatigue?
  8. Well that's not as heavy as I thought it was. Thanks for the info!
  9. Great finds, Glenn, you were on fire despite the almost cat-1 hurricane force winds! It's always a good day to be Glenn in CO! 😎
  10. Great video! I imagine that coil would be killer on a beach or open field for coverage. I just don't think I could swing it for very long given the extra weight.
  11. The dog fence is probably transmitting on a frequency very close to the D2's stock frequency. You might try auto noise cancel or even manually changing the frequency shift numbers to see if you could quiet it down.
  12. Great hunt, strick! Congrats on the silver thimble and rifle buttplate. Looks like a nice property, it's a shame to lose that. Maybe the new owner will allow you to keep hunting!
  13. Well it hasn't happen since that 2nd time it unpaired the coil, although I still haven't had a chance to run some tests with Deep HC specifically. But I'm not giving up the MI-6 for a single quirk even if it pesists. It is too good of a pinpointer not to use and I really like running it paired with the remote so I can hear it through the headphones. Plus it's every bit as deep as my Fisher F-Pulse pinpointer so the MI-6 is my goto pinpointer.
  14. Congrats on the excellent finds! That looks like a beautiful and serene place, thanks for the photos. In the fields, I would imagine that farm activity like cultivating brings up long buried items while turning over the soil. In most parks where I live, coins will only sink to the fill layer. The older (and unremodeled) the park, the deeper the older coins are, specially if they've put new sod over the old sod over the years. In the old ghost towns the opposite can occur. Wind and rain can and will erode the top ground layers and expose older coins and artifacts.
  15. I think the reason we won't see any non-Minelab coils for the Manticore, probably for a long time, is because they have new patents on the newly redesigned coils, which were developed to combat EMI. This will become more apparent when we get closer looks at the coils when they're in the hands of owners and also when the inevitable coil x-rays show up online.
  16. Congrats on another epic hunt, SoN, and 5 silver coins! What a great day!
  17. Another fun story and hunt and super saves from the Dynamic Duo! Congrats on the great finds! Thanks for sharing and I can't wait to see the results from your upcoming epic adventure. Cheers! 😎
  18. I try to save the worms too. This spring and summer when the ground was moist, worms would start popping up under the coil as I was circling a target. I'm thinking next summer I'll just collect the worms and go fishing after detecting. 😄
  19. I saw that too, GB, and my wife had to leave the room because I was yelling at the TV, "Thats' not a Deus 2! The Deus 2 doesn't even have a 9x5" elliptical coil! That's a Deus 1 or ORX! How is this person a detecting expert? WTF!?" 🥵 Then my wife comes back during the commercial and says, "Are you done? It's called eye-candy, dear. " 😏 I told her, "Well you may be smarter than me, but it doesn't make it right." 😄
  20. Very nice! I assume they are waterproof? They remind me of the Tony Eisenhowers for the Nox. Well done.
  21. Great hunt again, F350! Congrats on the buttons and IHP! I got to go back to the old mining town I hit a couple of weeks ago. I must say I am really getting into the relic hunting with the D2 and see why you love it so much. 😎
  22. Thanks for posting that Carolina, that's awesome! So what is the 3 pin for?
  23. It is absolutely possible to make adapters for the Bonephones as long as you have the wiring diagram for the XP multi-pin connector. However I don't know of anyone who has that information except XP.
  24. Thanks for the report on the 11" coil, F350. I'm with you on the 9" coil. It's doing a fine job on my ground and since I may get to a beach once a year, I really don't need the 11". Congrats on those gilded buttons. Those are beauties! BTW, what did the spider ring in at? 😄 I hate it when I walk through one of those orb weaver webs and don't know if the spider was in it at the time! 😱
