  1. I guess it depends on the source and type of the EMI as to how it affects the D2. Most times, I have no problems with EMI in parks, schools, neighborhoods, etc, but ocassionally I'll hit a spot that just lights up with chatter. It's usually a relatively small area and very localized, so I suspect it may be underground wires or junctions or possibly a wifi or cell repeater or something like that. But usually I can just walk a little past the noisy spot and the chatter goes away.
  2. Awesome finds Cal & Tom! I love seeing the unusual history unfolding in your relics and coins saves!
  3. I'm just going to chalk it up to one of the quirks of an unfinished soft/firmware. It's not a big problem by any means right now and I'll try to figure out a work around. I believe there's another update being tested, so I'll just continue to enjoy my D2, which is still pretty great, and look forward to more features and fixes as the updates keep coming, and keep hoping for a nice 10x5" coil to complete the coil array. (Hint, hint, XP!) 😎
  4. I think someone stated this before, be careful what you ask for. Of course we all want a detector that can tell us exactly what is under the coil and we would all buy that detector, and in a few short years, all of the best targets would be gone, specially with the slower rate of replenished gold and silver targets these days, and good relics would never be replenished. And after all the good targets are gone, everyone will have to look for a new hobby. Maybe knitting? 😱 So, personally, I like the challenge of learning a detector and how to find good targets and still have the hope of more good targets in the future.
  5. Thanks, JCR and thanks for your fast research F350, your Google-fu is strong! 😁 Wow,I didn't think it was that old, I figured 1940s or 50s. So that must have been from the earliest days of the coal mining town, thanks!
  6. Thanks, NCt! I had to dig that piece back out of the baggie archive and take a closer look. I was beat when I got home that evening and just noticed it had a cool design but didn't take the time to check it out better. Here's some better photos of it. I looked at the back and it has a spring so it must be the back of an old flashlight. The ER (or RE?) design made me think it might be an early Eveready design, but I haven't been able to find anything that looks like that online yet.
  7. Well I have to amend my thought that the Deep HC program was excessively draining my coil battery. Turns out it was not that at all, because the same thing happened today. What really happened, as near as I can tell, is this. After switching back and forth between Fast and Deep HC to check a deep target, I set the detector down to pinpoint with the MI-6 and dig a target. When I recovered the target, I turned off the MI-6 and noticed no response from the coil again. I looked at the remote screen and could see the coil was unpaired and was trying to pair again but displayed no serieal number so it would not pair. When this happened the first time I thought that my coil battery was drained and that's why it could not re-pair, so I quit detecting and went home. When I got home after that, I turned the remote back on to check if there was a problem with the remote, but it came on normally and the coil was paired like normal and it still showed plenty of battery life like it normally does after one of my hunts. So when it did the same thing today after switching between Fast and Deep HC and using the MI-6, I powered down the detector and restarted and everything was normal and I had plenty of coil charge to finish the day detecting. I will have to do some more testing, but I now think that maybe it's a glitch in the software (V .071) relating to switching between Deep HC and the MI-6 Pinpointer that causes the coil to unpair. It hasn't happened with any of the other program, just Deep HC. Has anyone else experienced this?
  8. Congrats, maxxkatt! It's a different critter if you've never used an XP detector, but take your time and learn the sounds it makes and it will tell you a lot. It's taken me a few months to get in tune with it, but now I'm really loving the D2. You will too!
  9. Thanks F350! I'm not finding the kind of great finds you are getting, but I'm getting more comfortable with the D2 and learning more of what it's been trying to tell me. I think I'll keep it. 😏
  10. Another incredible hunt, F350, well done and congrats on the cut silver! You are on some great history there and I love seeing what you discover in your fields. Keep up the good work!
  11. Some friends asked me if I wanted to join them on a hunt at an old coal mining ghost town last week, to which I replied "Hell Yeah!" They warned me that this area had been pounded heavily by everybody for decades, because it is easily accessible and close to some major cities, so not to expect too much and probably no coins. Well that bar was set high enough for me, so off I went. I figured if nothing else, it would be another interesting spot to test Rattlehead's famous Silver Slayer program for the Deus II in relic hunting conditions. The weather was cooler than normal and very windy, so I was hoping the rattlesnakes had moved underground so I wouldn't have to use my Root Slayer as a Snake Slayer. 😱 I use to catch snakes as a kid and don't like to kill them. When we arrived, we split up and started checking out the old house foundations of the now defunct coal town. I started out in a slightly modified Relic mode on the D2 that I normally use for relic hunting and the ground lit up with great sounding targets, most of which were smashed bits of aluminum, lead, tin, and iron. Of course the iron was easy enough to sort out, but there was so much lead and aluminum everywhere that I couldn't even find a clear spot to ground balance. The noise was endless. So I figured, what the heck, I'll try the Silver Slayer again to see what it can do in this kind of environment. This town operated from the early 1900s to about 1950, so I opened the program up a little to allow low mid conductors from 50 to about 68, since there were no pull tabs, and notch out those pesky ring pulls, but left 78 and up opened. That seemed to tame things quite a bit and still allowed me to hear the iron as a reference. That's when interesting targets started coming through, like buttons, clock gears, the back to a pocket watch, harmonica reeds, and my first thimble. I was over by one foundation when my friend said, I'm curious to see if you get anything there because I've beat that foundation into submission several times so I don't think there's anything left there. Well he was right... almost... I was getting nothing but trash signals until I moved just outside one corner near a very large cactus. I was getting lots of iron signals as usual when a bouncy 84-86 kept squeeking through the iron tones. Well I had nothing to lose except an eye if I got too close to that cactus bush, so I carefully dug it out and low and behold, out popped a 1935 Wheat penny! The SS program struck coin again unmasking a Wheatie buried in a pile of nails and other iron bits. Color me impressed again! So I ended the day with some neat relics and a coin and continuing respect for my detector which is teaching me so much. 😎
  12. A recent discussion in another thread just made a question pop into my head. How necessary is a coil cover? Now I know it protects the bottom of the coil and I think use is recommended by XP to maintain the warranty coverage and that's reason enough right there, but with the epoxy fill under the coil is the cover a necessity? On grass, it doesn't seem like there's any need for it. On sand it maybe a different story and on the dry hard dirt of mining areas and ghost towns, I can see using it. I remove the coil cover and clean regularly, and it's no big deal, but with all the stuff that collects in there, I sometimes wonder if it would be better to run without it. I would think that black sand or magnetite collecting in the cover could affect detecting performance. Does anyone use their Deus without a coil cover on it and if so, have you noticed any wear on the coil bottom?
  13. Good points, Jeff. I had a hard time with the charge clip when I first got the D2 and immediately ordered the Doodads one. I never thought about the coil cover being the issue, but the Doodads one just slides on and makes good contact so I haven't had to worry about that.
  14. Wow! It looks like you fell into a ring of fire!... Well a hot spot anyway. Was it chance or fate? Either way, glad you weren't hurt and you were certainly rewarded for all your hard work. Congrats and well done!
  15. Great Deus set-ups, phrunt! It looks like you got everything well covered. 😎
  16. Yep, that is correct. I just double checked that because I had not noticed it either. 🙄
  17. Sweet Aussie silver and gold! It looks like it was a great trip and congrats on your finds!
  18. Oh man, if they make a small elliptical for the D2, say a 9X5", that would be a smokin' set-up! I'd do the exact same thing or even buy a package that had the Full Remote, 9x5" coil and the WSA-II-XL headphones and no puck. That would be the perfect package for us land hunters. 😏
  19. Yep, that all makes sense. I do have all unused accessory audios at zero output as Gary suggested. The D2 Manual does say that Deep HC and Diving modes should last 8 hours, so perhaps my coil was not charged all the way. I will have to do some more testing because Deep HC was great for confirming deep coin targets. If I can get it to run 8 hours, that will do just fine.
  20. Personally I like earbuds and wear them until it gets freezing outside. I can always hear everything around me and talk to people with them on. The problem is APTX-LL versions are getting hard to find. The ones I got from Amazon are no longer available, but I found these although I haven't used them. https://a.co/d/eeKz7DH Some people have had luck using Bluetooth 5 earbuds, but I've heard it's hit or miss finding some that work with the Nox.
  21. I like the full remote and have gotten really use to it. I was going to try the Puck Master setup, but I just haven't seen the need yet. It's a great option to have with the full setup package though, should I ever need it.
  22. Remember that Minelab headphone poll we all took a while back?.... I guess not enough people answered ear buds. That is disappointing. If Minelab doesn't market Manticore compatible ear buds, that could be a deal breaker for Summer use. 🙄
  23. Beautiful finds, strick! And thanks for the cleaning tips also! 😎
  24. Great saves, Calmark, well done! Yes, that SS program on the D2 is a special kind of magic. I've been playing around with the notches and it actually performed a bit better for me than the Relic program did at a ghost town last week, so don't be afraid to experiment with it, there is a lot of potential there. 😎
