  1. I went ahead and updated to V 071. It was the first time I have updated since getting the D2 with the Jan 2022 V 0.6 installed. I was careful follow the prompts in the update program and not to plug in the USB cable until instructed to do so. Strangely enough, it would not start the update download procedure after plugging into the USB2 port on my computer, it would just hang at the last graphic screen (11/11) of the update program.. I tried it twice after backing out of the update program, unplugging the USB cable, shutting down the remote, and starting the whole procedure over again. On the third try, I plugged into one of the USB2 auxillary ports on the front of my connected external hard drive instead of the USB2 ports on my computer and it worked fine for both the remote and the WS6. I use the computer's ports all the time and they work fine for other things, but they just wouldn't work for the update program for some reason. Maybe it was a glitch, but it's done and everything seems to be working fine. I did wait for the update to complete, displaying Success, and then waited for the remote to cycle through auto restart and bring up the boot screen and regular operating screen before disconnecting the USB cable. I don't know if that would prevent the lock up of the remote reported by a couple of people, but it might, so be patient and let the program and equipment do their thing before yanking out any cords. I did have to repair my headphones and MI6 and resave my saved programs, but that was easy enough. Hopefully I'll be able to get out in a day or so and try out the new software. Best of luck to you all!
  2. I did the V 0.71 update and it all went fine. I waited until the remote restarted before unplugging the USB cable from the computer. I don't know if that matters or not, but it might.
  3. Excellent finds! It looks like you have your D2 pretty well dialed in, well done!
  4. That is so awesome that you found the matching spur! That's a million to one shot! All of the relic finds are great, that looks like an untouched spot you found there. Well done and congrats!
  5. For those that may not have seen this... Update 0.71 is out. If you have 0.7 installed, it will not erase your saved programs. If you have an earlier version (0.6 or earlier) it will erase your saved programs so write them down before updating. Update V0.71
  6. I signed up for XP emails on their website and I got an email announcing the 0.7 update, but I didn't get one for the 7.1 update yet. I found out about 0.71 here today.
  7. Thank you all for the replies. I'm new to the Deus world and still trying to get my head around some of the more advanced functions and concepts of the Deus II. I know that more time and use with it will teach me more, but so far I'm feeling pretty comfortable with the D2 and even though there is so much more to learn, I can feel the potential of the advanced technology.
  8. That is correct, I just got a pair and the D2 puck works perfectly with them.
  9. Please forgive such a newbie question, but I've reread the manual a few times and searched other resources, but I can't find an explanation of why you would want to reduce discrimination below zero. I understand the basic function of discrimination, but what would be the practical reason to drop it to -6.4 or any negative number if iron comes in at zero to about 10? Can anyone help me out with this basic concept? What am I missing here? Thanks!
  10. I'm sticking with the January V0.6 that my D2 came with for now, but the pinpoint mode just blows my ears out so I'm not using it as much as I would like. I like to trace target sizes of iffy signals and I'm actually running my headphone volume lower than I would like to prevent hearing damage from the pinpoint mode. I know it supposed to be louder on shallower targets and softer on deeper ones, but pinpoint mode is set way too loud on shallower targets and shouldn't be louder than the loudest signal in the program modes. Maybe XP could limit that loud pinpoint program (shallow) response and increase the faint (deep) response a bit, or at least even it out with the maximum and minimum audio levels of the programs.
  11. The D2 is a different beast for sure, but it looks like you're getting into the swing of it. πŸ˜‰ Excellent finds, and that US Cavalry Spur is a winner! Congrats, strick!
  12. I'll take clad... it's spendible! πŸ˜‰ Neither of us found any nickels. We have pulled a lot of nickels out of there over the last two years, maybe we got them all. 🀣 I dug the pull tabs to verify what I suspected they were. The ring pull fooled me though.
  13. I was invited to visit a friend out of town and detect on his permission a couple of days ago. This place was a 100 year old boys school which is now privately owned. Since I recently got the Deus II and have only had it out once, I thought this would be a great place to try to learn the language of this machine. Up until now I have only used American and Australian detectors, so this new French one was Greek to me. I loaded up the D2 and took the Equinox as a backup if things went south. The plan was to see how deep the D2 could get in the heavily iron mineralized soil of the sports field that we have pounded for two years. I figured we had cleaned out enough of the shallow coins and trash to possibly hit the silver layer if there is one. I started out in the P1-General program, but quickly swithed over to a modified Park program with 5 Tones and that's when the coins started popping out. I also used the XY screen which I really like as it helped to identify many of the trash targets. Where has this thing been all my detecting life? After a few hours, I was starting to recognize the sounds of quarters, dimes, copper pennies and zinc pennies, most of which were coming from 4-6 inches down and sounding really clear. A few that were in the 7-8 inch range still sounded good, but had more of and iron tone mixed in. I did hear some faint tones deeper down that had 00 TID, but none had any silver tone to them and I passed on those for the time being. The one banging silver tone I did get came from about 7 inches down and turned out to be a belt buckle. Another one I thought was a silver dime for sure at about 4 inches was a 1980 British New Penny. By the end of the day, I was also able to recognize many square tabs, most bottle caps, and many nails with some level of confidence. This is a very trashy field but I was able to skip much of it this time and felt like I wasn't missing something good. So I ended up with a bunch of clad coins (and a 1965 dime... so close!), 19 copper pennies, only one wheatie (1944-S), 17 zincolns, a couple of small buttons of some kind, and a Disney Frozen pendant. And while I didn't reach silver this time out, I feel much more comfortable with the Deus II and I'm starting to learn more of what it is telling me. Here is what I pulled, minus the surface trash.
  14. Excellent detail and insights into the Nox as well as great finds! Thanks for taking us along on your journey and making us part of the process, great story!
  15. Thanks GB! I think the tea cup charm is plated, no stamp. The large iron thing is a transformer of some kind. It is very heavy. All of the heavily rusted things, as well as the older looking tin and lead pieces, came from the railroad bed.
  16. Nice going, you got more silvers and that ship spike is so cool! Well done... And you got to see some Youtubers in their natural habitat! πŸ˜„ With all the large caliber machinegun bullets found along the Atlantic coast from WWII airplane and gunboat practice, the beach must have been a scary place to hang out back in the day. 😲
  17. Okay let me preface by saying that I have no experience at all with an XP detector. I have been using the Equinox 800 for the last 2 years since I got back into detecting and really everything I know about detecting comes from that machine. I am really comfortable with it and have no intention of getting rid of it. But I've always been curious about the Deus (1) and almost pulled the trigger a few times but it just seemed overwhelmingly complicated so I didn't buy it. Then the Deus II came out and piqued my interest again, specially since it is a simultaneous multi-frequency machine. I got the D2 machine yesterday and had to take it out just to see what it was about. Now I have done a bunch of research on the D2, watched tons of videos, and read all the forums including this one to prep myself to enter a different world with a different language and I think it helped a lot. So thank you all for your expertise and shared information. I got a call to go detecting with friends yesterday at a local running path built on top of an old railroad track that had recently had an pipeline replaced next to it so the old deep dirt was now on top of the pipes. Since the D2 came fully charged, I loaded it up and also took the Nox as a back up in case I got too frustrated with the D2. Let me say right off to bat that I don't like the WS6 headphones. They sit wonky on my fat head and interfere with putting my glasses on and off. Luckily I had also purchased the WS adapter and was able to plug in some cheap JBL wired earrbuds which worked perfectly and sounded really good too. That's really the only thing I don't care for so far. I got the D2 with the 9" coil and have the software version V 0.6 13-1-2022 (Jan 13th). When I got to the hunt site, I loaded up the P1 General stock program and off I went. I must say I kind of like the PWM tones. It's different to what I'm used to but has an interesting feel to it, if that makes sense. My first target was a zinc penny and in no time at all I was pulling deep square tabs, ring pulls, and bottle caps like crazy. Now I've learned the sound and numbers of tabs, pulls, and caps on the Nox and can avoid those for the most part, but the D2 spreads those out quite a bit from the 50s to the 90s TID and they all sound good to me, so I've got a lot of learning to do. I also pulled some deep old iron but it was on purpose because I could actually tell it was iron and wanted to dig everything to see what's what. I played around switching to the other programs over many of the targets to get a feel for program differences. Some of the programs (all in stock modes) really responded differently and I could get a feel for the strengths and weaknesses of each over certain targets in my hot iron mineralized soil. I think the Park mode was the worst about falsing on Iron, but as I learn the D2 better, I think I will be able to deal better with that. The D2 did run surprisingly quiet for the most parts and even in a high EMI area I was able to tame it down well enough to keep hunting. The old railroad trail wasn't producing much so we moved over to the nearby park and that's when the light turned on for me. I started hitting the familiar coins and trash and felt like I was getting more comfortable with the D2. I even lowered the sensitivity and worked right next to a chain link fence to see how close I could find a good target. I don't think the D2 with the 9" round coil can match the Nox with the 10x5" coil in that regard but it was close and I did manage to pull 2 pennies and a dime within a few inches of the fence. If XP puts out a 9.5x5" coil for land hunting with the D2, then all bets are off! 😎 I will say, I feel like the Deus II is easier to learn than I thought it would be and I look forward to this journey. I really like it so far. I don't really even mind the screen switching speed so much as it really IDs multiple tragets fast. I do hope they can tame the issues with the 0.7 update as I'm not updating until that's fixed and if they could put a volume control on the pinpoint function that would be cool since it is so much louder than the program tones. Here's everything from my first hunt. It's nothing great but it's a good enough sample to make me feel that the Deus II and I are going to get along just fine.
  18. Nice hunt, you got a chain and it's silver, that's a double win! It looks like you're getting the hang of the D2. Yeah watch out for sand snakes... especially the 2-legged variety! In winter here in the Rockies, we have to warn tourists about the snow snakes! 🀣
  19. Yes the same thing happened to my saved user program on my Equinox when updated. I think it's because each update has been a full system update requiring erasure of all previous software and full install of the new software. It's really not a big deal if you write your saved user settings down before updating. High tech problems sometimes require low tech solutions. 😎
  20. Da-amn, Calmark, big score!!! What a beautiful find, congrats! I think you just sold a ton more D2s! 😎
  21. Even though they don't say APTX-LL in the listing, they have been confirmed by many Nox users (myself included) that they are Low Latency and the B+ icon on the Nox display when connected validates that. They are excellent and work perfectly with the Nox, so much so that I have replaced my ML-80 headphones with these. Thanks again for the find, F350!
  22. Nice fence fishin' session and awesome finds! That 10x5" is amazing, it will pick out targets while sounding off on a pole or chainlink fence at the same time. It really raises the bar on the Equinox. Well done!
  23. While it may not be needed, depending on how long you detect in a day and which programs and frequencies you use. According to the manual, the remote battery will last 30 hours (15 hrs with speaker or bonephones) and headphones battery lasts 14 hours. The coil battery will run for 12 hours in most of the programs, 8 hours in DeepHC and Diving programs, ans 10-20 hours in Mono Frequencies. F30Platinum showed that you can use any 5 Volt USB Power Bank with the coil while detecting. The only problem might be swinging the coil with the XP charge clip attached, I don't know. Here's the link to that thread: Charging the Coil While Detecting
  24. This brings up an interesting point. XP states that you must use USB 2 or 3, and not USB 1, when updating. This is probably because the updater program was compiled for use with more recent hardware using the USB 2 & 3 standard. USB 1 is extremely slow compared to USB 2 &3 which are 10-20 times faster. So if you use a USB 1 port on your computer to update the D2, it will cause data flow problems and probably buffer problems as well, which could lead to some of the issues reported during updating. So if you only have USB 1 ports on your computer, you will have to use a different computer that has USB 2 or USB 3 ports. Now how do you tell what speed your USB ports are on your computer? Easy, just look at the plastic rectangular tab inside the port. The color of the tab will indicate which type of USB port it is. A White tab is a USB 1 port (cannot be used to update the D2), a Black tab is a USB 2 port, and a Blue tab is a USB 3 port. USB 3 is backwards compatible with USB 2 so either can be used to update your D2. So check those ports before you plug in the update cable into your computer and make sure the port is Black or Blue inside the opening. It might just save you a major updating headache! HTH
  25. Customers are the end users worldwide who purchase the detectors for their own use. They (or we) are quick to report bugs, flaws, and problems. Companies looking to monitor for problems with their product have to look no farther than their own email inboxes and any social media, including this forum. We know that the current "big three" detector companies follow this forum closely, and that's a good thing for all of us.
