  1. Very nice finds! You have such great history over there and it looks like the D2 will help you find much more of it. Well done!
  2. Nice quarter haul, that 10x5 gets the goods in the trash, well done!
  3. It looks like you got 2 rings, and in difficult ground, well done!!
  4. I think you'd be better off making your own test garden because testing done in different soils than where you hunt would have different results than you will get.
  5. EMI is the aerial salt water polution of the 21st century and it's only going to continue to get worse. It probably is and will continue to be a critical design issue for detector companies for some time to come, specially those making SMF machines. The hope is that the new detector technology coming out will deal with it better and better. But for now there are certain advantages of high EMI to be exploited. I have detected areas of high EMI that my old Nox could not filter out, but managed to eek out some good signals and some good finds because other detectorists would avoid those areas at all costs. Sometimes you just have to rise to the challenge. 😎
  6. That's very cool, thanks for posting! I think the divers are going to be happy that XP has responded so quickly to their needs. It's good for everybody, and there should be no bad blood between Calabash and those involved. We're all just detectorists. Things were said, feelings were hurt, time has passed, now hopefully we all can make up and move on.
  7. I couldn't find anything about it anywhere, but if it's true it means XP is listening to it's users and that can only be a good thing. 😎
  8. I thought I saw somewhere that the 9" and 11" coils are selling for the same price. Did that change?
  9. Thank you for your straight forward, no nonsense evaluation of the D2 in your environments. This is very useful information for me because your soil is similar to mine. This is what I was waiting to hear. I apprecaite your input, well done!
  10. Television and it's ugly step-children, Youtube, Tik-Tok, etc, are entertainment media. They exist to reap views in order to sell advertising. As long as it is entertaining, I'll watch some of it and enjoy it for what it is, a diversion. There is no "Reality TV", there is just entertainment media.
  11. Cool find! I would guess it's a key marker for a safety deposit box at an old Savings & Loan Bank, but I couldn't find anything either. Is there a town name nearby that starts with an S or L? It could have been a company bank too. Were there any large companies, like mining, logging, or land companies, etc nearby? They often had their own banks and savings & loan operations.
  12. Another great hunt with excellent finds! Thanks for taking us snow-bound folks along for the ride.
  13. There are no absolutes in metal detecting. Phillip the Nox, who uses a 12x15" in the parks and beaches of New York is a master in his area, but his settings don't work don't work at all in the iron hot Rocky Mountain soil of Colorado. Like midalake said, everyone's site is different, and different sites require different methods.
  14. This may be totally irrelevant, but could some of the EMI issues in videos be caused by the video camera, specially those that stream with wifi or bluetooth enabled? Just a random thought.
  15. I feel like an advanced detector should allow advanced user control. It's probably cheaper and easier to make a less complex detector and it's very likely the automatic buyer market is much larger than the advanced user market. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that because we need good affordable intermediate SMF detectors too. The Deus II and Exquinox have great stock programs that anyone can use to detect until they get advanced enough to take it to the next level with more advanced user controls, and the Atrex Basic and Advanced firmware modes that Simon pointed out is absolutely brilliant. Maybe all detector manufacturers should adopt that idea.
  16. When you turn off the Bluetooth and turn it back on, I believe it goes back into new pair mode and searches for nearby Bluetooth devices. Once paired, you can turn the detector off and when it's turned back on, the last paired device will already be connected as long as that device is turned on. The ML80s will go into sleep mode when not paired for a few minutes. I think they auto turn off a few minutes after that, but I've never tested that. HTH
  17. I agree, I'm right there with you. I didn't think that Minelab was just resting on their laurels. πŸ˜‰
  18. I would guess that ML has been working on new tech since they released the Equinox, maybe before that, and would have known other detector manufacturers would start to make SMF machines after the Nox's sucess. I'm looking forward to what comes next and if some of the rumors are even close to correct, then we may see more ground breaking technology in the field (pun intended). 😎 Fun times for Detectorists!
  19. Contact Steve of Steve's Detector Rods. He's a member of this forum and a great guy to deal with. He can make any kind of carbon fiber shafts that you want. Steve's Detector Rods
  20. You can just email questions and suggestions directly to XP.
  21. I would think that divers and beach hunters don't necessarily want to use a 9x5 inch coil, so they could (in theory) simply make a "Land Only" coil and use the same parts from the Deus 1's 9x5 coil and update it to the FMF electronics. Of course it sounds easy enough, but there may be other reasons why XP doesn't want to do that.
