    I run my F-Pulse maxed out with no problems but it took some time to figure out it was the batteries causing the unstable operation, or rather the F-Pulse reacting to the metal content of the batteries. I think it was Carl who posted the F-Pluse Operation Manual, Rev.2 and it made all the difference for me. Here's the section that explains it:

    "The front battery is close enough to the coil that it presents a significant target. The PP is factory calibrated with typical steel-cased alkalines to compensate for this. If you notice a loss of sensitivity or falsing after replacing the batteries, it may be due to the composition of the new batteries, and the unit may need to be re-calibrated. See Advanced Features."

    I still can't use normal Energizer Lithium AAs but I can use the rechargable Lithiums, as well as Enerloop rechargables, and normal alkaline AAs. Whenever I change battery types (alkaline to Lithium, etc), I do a recalibration and it's all good.

    If it is new, it may already have the 3.0 upgrade. If not, you can get it here:

    The update seems more stable and includes the 4kHz single frequency option added. You can always roll back the software to a previous version if you want to.

  3. Just a quick update. I used the phones on a 7 hour hunt on Saturday and they performed flawlessly. I can confirm that they connect as Low Latency speed (B+) and I tested them against my ML80s and Aptx-LL earbuds and there is no discernible difference in latency speed.

    I noticed a few dropouts early on but found I had the phones on backwards with the Left Earmuff on my right side. I flipped them around and the droputs stopped. Be aware the transmitter is in the Right Ear so if you are a left-handed swinger, put the Right Earmuff on your left side. The signal received is Dual Mono (not Stereo) from the Equinox, so the phones sound the same when worn either direction.

    Personally, I like the sound which seems more pronounced than my ML80s, but not harsh sounding, and a little smoother or less crisp than my earbuds. Thanks again, F350, these are a keeper!

    I think Steve mentioned at one point that he suspected the 4kHz update (which shows frequencies can be added by an update) may have been a test of some kind from Minelab, and seeing that both of the new detectors coming out from other companies use 4kHz as the low frequency of their SMF technologies, there could be something to that.

  5. Just my opinion, but I think through all this discussion and input we've arrived at the biggest problem of the D2 and also its potential salvation. Granted, the D2 is clearly the most technologically advanced detector made at this point, but it seems to me that their focus has been on previous Deus users.

    Again, this is just my opinion, but I think they have a chance to lock in their place at the top for a long time to come if they if they just change the RC software to make the user interface much more user customizable, not just two screen settings that D1 user are use to. If they want to conquer the worldwide market of detectorists who have never used an XP, make the D2 customizable with a user interface that can be modified to as many different detecting styles as possible, and thereby make the D2 more comfortable and user friendly for a huge user base, the aging population. Let's face it, XP has always been about ergonomics, but that little screem crammed with too much data at one time is anything but ergonomic.

    As people have mentioned, this customization can be done with cellphones and electronic watches, so surely it can be done with the D2 remote to more of a degree as well. Now I'm not suggesting they add a dancing mouse on the screen (unless they partner with Disney), but allowing users to set up the interface that works best for them would remove one of the largest obstacles to an exponentially larger user and sales base.

    I like that idea even better. Maybe they could make the F/NF U-shaped display a simple bottom bar display (like the bottom part of the U-shaped display) and enlarge the TID number and put a thin depth gauge to the right or left of the TID.

    Speaking of depth gauge... is there one? I couldn't find anything in the manual about it.

    Edit: I found it. Apparently the U-shaped graph is also the depth gauge according to this blurb in the manual:

    "Standard multi-information display, with target index in bold
    + the F/NF (ferrous/non-ferrous) graph indicating also the intensity
    of the target to assess the depth."

    For some reason the only photo in the manual of the TID screen doesn't show anything on the F/NF/Depth Gauge display, so it took a minute for this non-XP user to figure that out. 

  7. They wouldn't have to shrink the circuit board if they change the angle of the cross struts holding the battery and circuit board, or perhaps design an "X" pattern for the cross struts to house the circuit board and battery. I'm sure it could be done if they wanted to.

  8. How do they sound compared to the stock ML80s? After using earbuds for so long, I ran the ML80s a few days ago because of cold weather and noticed they really sound muffled to me now. I guess I got use to the pronounced mids and highs of the earbuds. Do these Falwedi phones have a clearer sound than the ML80s? I look forward to your thought after using them in the field.

  9. I was stumped on that too. My guess is that XP is attempting to describe their programs as using different algorithms than SMF without giving out too much proprietary information, but with enough info to show how FMF is different from SMF.

    I think what they are saying is that SMF algorithms just add frequencies (example 4kHz, 14kHz, & 24kHz) to the transmit signal and do not filter or process those (I do not know if that is how SMF works), whereas, FMF may process or filter to reduce certain frequencies to compensate for noisy ground and add certain frequencies to enhance different kinds of targets. 

    I think those are probably fixed frequency algorithms within each program and can't be user edited outside of the normal user controls.

    It may actually be exactly how SMF works too, but I don't know.

  10. I think the benefits of SMF have been discussed at length on this forum since the arrival of the Equinox and pretty much covered. My over generalized opinion is that if current SMF technology did not provide substantial benefits to detectorists these last 4 years, then detectorists wouldn't have continued to purchase SMF at such a sustained rate, and no other companies would now be rushing to put out SMF detectors and discontinuing many of their single frequency machines.
