Finally A Day Of Gold Detecting
normmcq replied to californiagold's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
WTG That gold sure has a pretty color, go find some more. Norm -
Got out three times this week for a total of about ten hours of detecting time. Spent some time looking for a new patch, but when it wasn't to be, I went back over old patches and didn't come home with the skunk, just over a quarter oz.

Rick it looks like you are using the wrong side of the coil! -
No that is why I call it "Wishitwasmine" A good friend of mine found it.

Good on Ya Paul!

WTG Scott! Nice surprises hiding out there

I am re posting this nugget because the quality of the picture in the original post just didn't show the beauty of it. Thanks to Steve H for the pictures. The gross weight is 4.68 oz. (145.1 grams) net weight is 3.68 oz (114.46 grams)

Paul I took the day off and took Heather out for a Sunday drive. We started the day at the Plumas Eureka state Park, then over to Sierraville for lunch at Dos Los Hermanos. After the grueling drive on Hwy 49 to Basset's Station, I had worked up an appetite for one of those Apple Pie milkshakes that you like. I thought about you and Rob while we enjoyed it. It was on to Church Meadows thru Mohawk Gap and down the hill to Mohawk Chapman road to Graeagle and back to Quincy. I sure hope I don't need some heart work after that shake! Norm

Good Job Rick! Any steep side hill nugget is hard earned, especially if you have experienced a great number of sun rises and sun sets.

Why Can't I Get A Ferrite Ring For My GPZ 7000?
normmcq replied to Sourdough Scott's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
Yes Chris You might need two, but they both need to be ZEDS. Finding an area without a target is tough. -
I went out today and hunted hard for several hours in several areas that have been good to me. Not even one target that I thought was gold. I had one more area that I wanted to try before giving up for the day. ( I am in serious need of some marriage maintenance and today would be last day I could hunt for about a week) I wandered close to an area that I had recently found several nuggets and gave it my best shot to beat the skunk. Well low and behold I found a small nugget, now I can go home. On the way back to the truck and not more than forty from it I got another signal. It weighed in at 5.6 dwt. and the total for the day was 6.2 dwt.
-
That sounds like a great adventure and even some good gold. I'm sure glad that your ZED wasn't the one that didn't survive the trip. I'm curious about how you dealt with charging ZED's battery with that many hours you could detect. Must have had a mandatory recharge time out for both you and ZED. Norm McQ P.S. I still have that dime!

WTG Rick It seems to me that a lot of my single nugget finds are on the way back to the truck. I hope Robin rewarded you with a successful prospector's lunch. Nice find! Norm

WSPA has some great claims, here are some pieces that I found last week on some of the California claims. We also have a very good group of members.

Smokey Sky's And Dog Days Gold
normmcq replied to Featherdfishead's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Nice finds! Hard work pays off most of the time. A friend and I recently found five nice specimens just below a patch of brush that we couldn't detect under. We started with a plan the next morning to clear that brush and fill our pokes. We spent at least 6 man hours cutting and piling that brush before we turned our detectors on. With great anticipation we started a very careful search of our virgin ground. We found one piece that was .8 dwt. Would I do it again? probably, It is the thrill of the hunt, fresh air, exercise and comradre that counts at the end of the day. -
I haven't heard anything about Paul after his surgery. Anyone have any updates? NormMcQ

Scott If you need someone to dig for you and carry the big ones, let me know. Norm
-
I just thought I would share with you, a very pretty find that a friend of mine found in a very pounded area with his ZED. He is not one to get on or post on the forums, but gave me the OK to do so. This prize is a 24 DWT. crystallization gold piece that has obviously not traveled far from the source. Enjoy.

Scott Did you find that area we were going to look for? Nice nuggets! Congrats!
-
Hmmmm I went to my audiologist this morning to get my new hearing aids adjusted. She mentioned that she was going to test a fellow detectorist and he was going to bring his detector. Could that have been Sourdough Scott? She is a good person and a great audiologist

Paul We know that you have a great big heart, just some minor plumbing upgrades we hope. Get well soon. Norm and Heather

Minelab GPZ Review By Rye Patch Ron

Way to go Fas! Nice nugget -
Great post, nice pictures How much detecting time will you lose, if using the the GPS full time?

I don't cherry pick the signals that I dig, I dig everyone. except in a very trashy area and have always wondered if the ones I left behind were the big one. With having said that, I always try to imagine what I am digging in relation to what I was hearing. I have been fooled by very small pieces of gold that were very shallow, but have been fairly accurate on my assessment of target id. I did have an interesting experience recently on a trip to Nevada. I got a very nice broad, smooth down up signal and was running in High Yield with auto signal off and Normal. The more I dug, the louder the signal got. I was in an area that had no trash. At about 15 inches, I thought this going to be the biggest piece I have ever found, at just over twenty inches, I got a 2.1 dwt. It was a very smooth flat piece and must have been positioned in a way that afforded the best signal response. Don't trust your intuitions. just dig your targets. Norm
