  1. Want to get a sand scoop for the beach. Search did not come up with a good discussion here. Looking for suggestions. Use 2-3 times a year, salt water, wet and dry use. A travel type scoop would be nice for travel and storage. Not wanting to spend $300 on high end since it won’t see the heavy use in the near term. I like the RTGs but there are so many options! Length, scoop size, material/weight. The travel scoop with 2 piece handle seems nice but I have read it has a crappy connection with a sheet metal type screw? Scoopal and the Nokta scoops are tempting but I could see breaking these. Thoughts?
  2. I’ve been reading up on Equinox waterproof headphones as I will finally have the opportunity to try it at the beach in the next few months. I plan to wade with it for the most part but the unit might get dunked some as I’m still within warranty and want to make sure I don’t have a leaky one... I’ll have a Seahunter as backup or if I ever want to snorkel with it for extended periods. Probably will only do this a couple times a year in the near future. I’ve read good things about the Pelsos as a waterproof above water with the occasional dunk, $50 bucks less new. I’ve read the Yellow Minelabs are not very loud. Different tech, speakers vs piezo. On the Pelsos I’ve read they come with a long cord that a good thing? Hopefully not too annoyingly long? Thoughts?
  3. Monte, do you feel the 7” round concentric is better or worth it over the 9” elliptical concentric? Also, on the 4” and 5”, by differently do you mean that the target IDs or depth or both would be skewed from the original coil under same conditions?
  4. Thank you for the response. The 4” is tempting to try on some areas. On the 5” DD, the chart (I referenced it before) doesn’t show it as compatible but I know I have read where people use them. There are two listed, one for the F5 (5COIL-F5F) and one for the F75 (5COIL-F75). I’m assuming connectors are different and maybe there is something physically different depending in the detector frequency. Which one works on the F22? Edit: I looked at chart again and then various detectors mentioned. Seems like the connectors should be the same and the F22 frequency in same as the Omega 8000. The 5COIL-TEK should work?
  5. I have an F22 with the stock 9” elliptical concentric coil that I like taking out every now and then. Mainly playgrounds and parks. I probably get most things within 6”. I’ve dug some good deeper signals occasionally but most good signals are within that 6” range which is adequate. I do use the iron audio occasionally, tot lots with mulch I dig everything above the weed barrier. I’ve been wondering about the Fisher alternative coils like the 4” concentric for some really trashy areas around shelter. I’ve also come across some posts where folks refer to a 5” DD coil but unclear which one. The F5 and F75 have that option but it is not on the charts as compatible with the F22. I’ve also seen aftermarket 5” DDs and other options. I figure depth loss should be minimal with better separation. Looking for insight from others that have used alternative coils on these detectors.
  6. Red headphones, that’s funny stuff. With a bottle opener built in. I look forward to what Nokta Makro and others will come out with next detector wise.
  7. Steve, I would agree on the headphones if it goes to something else, then let it be an industry standard and not yet another proprietary solution. I chose to go with the August headphones on my Equinox 600 and also bought their transmitter for my other detectors without built in feature. It would be great if I could use these with the Simplex as well without the transmitter. Or maybe if I can on its replacement I might be more convinced to try one. I guess if they are going to keep going down the proprietary route and releasing a nearly identical detector that is an upgrade to tons of folks that have already bought into the Simplex, why not make the value proposition be better to upgrade by allowing the peripherals from the Simplex carry over? Or is the better business case for NoktaMakro to get users to buy yet more accessories? One approach seems better from a loyalty perspective. I think Garrett has done it right from that point of view. And they still sell accessories.
  8. Thank you for confirming. From an upgrade and loyalty perspective I think it would have been nice if it was at least compatible with the Simplex green headphones and the waterproof wired option. I understand on the coils there might be technical reasons for those to be different. Can you say if it will be compatible with the Pulsedive pinpointer as far as audio through headphones and interference?
  9. Thanks Steve. I had the opportunity to pick up a used Simplex and headphones an have been thinking of trying the Pulsedive. It would be nice if the upgrade meant the peripheral gear was compatible and then the Simplex could be a back up or sold off to recoup some of the gear investment. I like how they have integrated those things and t hat would also be compelling to make the investment in another multi SMF. If not, that’s okay. I have my Equinox.
  10. Maybe not the right place to ask but does anyone know if this Simplex based multi unit will also use the same green headphones, compatibility with the pulsedive? I’m assuming it will also come with an 11” standard DD coil and Simplex coils will not be compatible. Target price? $500-600? $900-1000? If there is another discussion on this going someone can point me to that would be great too.
  11. Steve, the weight is an axle socket that weighs about a pound. I can probably get away with a little less at the end of shaft as the coil “floated” a little too much there as compared to the same socket attached further forward under the cuff. Either way, the weight needed at point A to offset the coil increase weight at B is roughly double. All of that extra weight is felt at C. Which is all then felt through the arm at each joint as more weight. Intuitively I feel the counterbalance may help someone suffering from wrist, forearm, and maybe elbow pain trying to use those muscles to force the coil to be level at an unbalanced state. I feel this is were your counterbalance concept would help most. I wish it worked for me. I feel that pain or discomfort further up the arm or shoulder may be more related to the angle the detector is being held. Shortening the shaft helped bring my arm closer. I think the s-bend will allow My arm to be closer to vertical while the S-bend effectively moves the coil forward again(and so perhaps would offset coil ears like the F75). I feel more weight hanging off an aching shoulder joint with a closer to vertical arm would certainly not help regardless of balance. That’s my theory anyway so wanting to try other solutions. It may also prove ineffective for my issue. I certainly don’t want to be tethered to a harness with a less than 3lb detector and wireless headphones.
  12. Steve, I think it may be true for some and not others. Also seems like there are different types of discomfort reported and I suspect people also have different physical specs which could be part of the equation. Hard to tell with the amount of info available. Some don’t even report the type of pain. Is it wrist, elbow, shoulder, somewhere in between? Are you tall, short, limb and torso proportions? Do you need counterbalance, s-shaft, shoulder harness, some combination? I remember using my Seahunter on the beach that weighs over 5lbs and my arm muscles just being worn out from the weight! But no shoulder joint pain. But it went away. With the Equinox hunting on turf, I’ve developed a lot of shoulder/arm joint pain that is lingering. It is light and easy to swing. It can be swung pretty quickly because of recovery speed. I try to walk like my shoes are tied together and try to be meticulous about coverage but it is a lot of back and forth on that joint. I did not think it was so much weight as the stopping and reversing the coil. I’ve tried to counterbalance with a socket but it has not worked for me. Now I just have lot of cuff slop I had to also address and a heavier feeling detector every time I pick up. I’ve also tried shortening my shaft and swinging closer to my feet. I suspect the counterbalance might help folks with wrist pain or maybe arm or forearm pain. I’ve read that the s-shafts can help with end of swing wobble. I’m not sure that is something I notice but it is possible it could reduce or change how that impacts my shoulder joint. So that is what I would like to try next in addition to a more permanent solution to my sloppy cuff I’m 5’11”, slender/lean build. Longer legs than torso, longish arms just to throw that out there. I won’t get into measuring my arm proportions but my point is folks will have different mechanical advantages and disadvantages. I need to find what will work for me so I can keep swinging and the counterbalance has not been it. The s-bend may not do it. I may resort to just marking a few targets at a time and resting my arm more often from that motion while digging up targets.
  13. Hi Tom, does the Minelab coil fit on the Whites lower rods without modifications or shimming to prevent strain on the coil ears? I’d like to try a s bend on my 600 and like your solution and price point. Also seems more available and cheaper than Xterra parts at this time. I’ve been wanting an extra middle and lower for my other coil anyway. Also funny, for my counterbalance I also used a heavy impact socket. My issue is shoulder joint pain. The counter balance has not changed anything other than make it feel heavier and exacerbate the cuff slop issue I’m looking into as well.
  14. I think this is a pretty awesome design and nicer than the stock box layout. Weight is one concern but not a great one. I have also seen where some Vanquish units have been snapping at the stem and not warranted. Could be an expensive but nice solution.
  15. That’s because if then iron bias setting difference between the two. If you bump up Field 1 iron bias FE = 2, you will dig less iron like with Park 1. The tone break is also slightly higher for Field 1 which can also be made equal. It has been asked before. In short, nobody knows. Some (like myself) feel the algorithms (not the settings) are the same between 1 modes and 2 modes between Park and Field (not Beach or Gold). Some feel there is still a difference between the two and that Field may hit a nickel lower than Park for example. But it is probably a negligible difference to most.
  16. Video on this in English: https://fb.watch/2rpivFQw6F/ I had not thought about the weight of the pod but I guess it is much more configurable and maybe easier to balance the detector this way.
  17. Awesome. Where are you located if you don’t mind me asking? How does this work with purchasing from seller? Is it a kit and DIY or do you have to ship him your pod and then get it back in this housing? it does look like a great product. I like it for the Vanquish as well.
  18. Think a cheaper, simpler, waterproof or at least highly water resistant Equinox 300 based on the Vanquish 340 platform. Others have already mentioned the RNB pack option on the batteries which I think is ~$60 or so. Check out Sea Ghost on Facebook, You Tube, Instagram, etc. He makes boxes housings for various ML products, including the Vanquish. I think this guy has the right idea of what I would like to see.
  19. I’ve tried to ask him on some post but the guy is kind of vague with responses and videos are in Russian. I’m not certain but the detector pod may have to be sent to him. The unboxing video about what you get had an operating pod in it. Otherwise not site how good of instructions you would get to undertake this yourself. I guess with some instructions I would try this after warranty or a cheap deal on a broken one etc. The Vanquish probably would not be as hard as it is not a sealed unit and only $200 for the 340 and probably cheaper in the used market after some time. If anything, Minelab should take some hints.... or hire this guy.
  20. I’m surprised I have not seen much chatter on this mod but it seems pretty well done. He has same mod for the Vanquish and maybe the CTX https://m.facebook.com/Sea-Ghost-101743838386442/ Not something I’d do under warranty but maybe after warranty was up? Or buy a $200 Vanquish or used one and this kit? I think the kits are under $300 and I think that includes the headphones? Heck the waterproof headphones are half that price. Wish I knew Russian...
  21. Surprised this has not been brought up more. Seems to address some of the complaints at least: https://m.facebook.com/Sea-Ghost-101743838386442/
  22. I’m surprised there has not been more talk about this as it seems to answer some of the issues with Equinox: Waterproof, Serviceable, all buttons on front membrane panel, more adjustability of the pod.... https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/14478-has-the-sea-ghost-housing-been-discussed-on-this-forum/
  23. Yes, when I grid I go 90 the second pass. Try to implement as many techniques as I can but there are an infinite number of variables for sure. If I really had freedom on a site that had good odds, I think it would be interesting to go as far as some of the unmasking experiments by Tom Downkowski and put the Seahunter to work on these sites too 🤔
