  1. Also don`t count out aftermarket coils for the X`s, the 40% that was true with the older coils is seriously being challenged. I suspect more will unfold in this direction with time, 2016 may be the year we see coil technology advance from just being lightweight and shape gain orientated to gains in depth, sensitivity and ground handling albeit at weight gain. The Z has proven itself, also proven that we are prepared to accept a heavy coil for these gains. What will Fisher, Whites, Garret etc do if it is proven there are substantial gains to be made in this direction? Maybe even the older VLF`s can be given a boost here too. Whoops I dropped my crystal ball!!!!!
  2. Yes read this post and it got the grey matter working, perhaps those aftermarketers moving away from lightweight coils was not just gloss, cannot comment on the NF`s Evolution but Coilteks Elite is no glossy coil. My sons recent purchase of one conx to the old dejected 5000 came up with the weight, so much in fact that cannot conclusively say it does not equal the GPZ on solid scraps(your dinks) in depth and size. That will take a lot more missions to either confirm or reject, nothing beats in field testing, actual nuggets in their million years old hiding spots.
  3. Whilst I know from experience ML`s graph and promotional gloss on the GPZ are for real, I have just had a two day "mission", do not brush the 5000 aside( and MLs other PI`s). The new Coiltek Elite Mono coils on the 5000 is giving the graphs on depth comparison some serious competition, I`ve never been much of a convert to off-market coils, until the Elite I`ve never believed from the use of the ones I purchased they gave any advantage over ML`s solid coils. I have had to revise that belief, seeing and experiencing is certainly believing.
  4. Whoops, that was a wee bombastic of me, I apologise. No excuse. To illustrate what I was on about.
  5. For any app to be of full use in our environment, the phone`s screen will have to be able to handle direct sunlight, such as screens used in the rugged notebook market, transflective or better. While I have been using a smartphone with Oziexplorer app for a number of years, the screen is a problem but my Portege notebook with its transflective screen this problem is solved to a certain degree. There are phones available with such screens but they are priced way out of the mass consumers reach. Steve Oziexplorer & Ozi 3D you`ll find will compete with the glossy market driven apps, even outdo them by allowing you to use a map of your choice such as geo maps downloaded digitally or simply scanned in and georeferenced.
  6. Wow, oh no!! not more toys. but that sure seems to be the right direction they are heading. Makes that detector in a coil seem more logical, XP has probably had this in the pipeline even before the Deus. I just hope they steer a bit away from proprietary software and let us use the mapping of our choice, leaving it open for faster development, must be a way of doing this without threatening patent security.
  7. On sink rates of coins or nuggets in dry country (all dry where I chase). As some of our dry country dries after the wet,(usually black soil) it cracks, which allows some targets to "fall" down these cracks, but sometimes this soil movement also pushes even solid nuggets further to the surface. Over the years speaking to cattle property owners they comment on how in some cases it even "pushes" the steel star pickets almost right out of the ground. One such case in a back soil basin whose depth was more then a metre, I scored a 6 ounce solid about 6 inches deep. Nothing else until the ground was pushed to bedrock where the wash was. Can only deduce that nugget was pushed almost to the surface, it certainly did not shed there as it was fairly obvious the black soil came after the gold shed. This phenomena while not common is not so rare in the country I speak of. Well at least this is the only logical explanation I could think of.
  8. As a recipient of Pauls big heart, can say On ya Paul and you to Steve. True if the Professor turns out to be a dud, that`s certainly his loss.
  9. Wow, that`s in Depth. No pun intended. Never bothered with air depth tests, only air test for IDs, which is not 100% either. In ground undug targets can only give a true indication. There on the Deus as I guess with all changeable frequency detectors a indication of the frequency change can make to detection of a target, have noticed a difference that confirms the lower frequency depth capabilities as at a higher frequency the sensitivity to small nuggets. More so on small gold, not a peep at 4Khz but a clear signal at 19Khz. Certainly from coin sites had flogged with the A2B, back in 80s to going over those sites with the Deus now, VLFs haven`t gone far, even the discrimination features seem of not much value on such sites.
  10. Interesting, do you believe depth with VLF`s is frequency dependant ie lower frequency = more depth and less sensitivity, higher frequency = less depth more sensitivity. Sensitivity being to smaller targets. I am finding with the Deus and its switchable frequencies the above is very true especially for coin sized targets. ( The Deus being my first switchable frequency detector since the 1700, thus please forgive me for not mentioning the others) Or is this lower frequency thing just because it isn`t targeting the smaller stuff it just appears to have more depth?

Out with edge in with IE, smileys are back
  12. You beauty, the spaghetti didn`t work obviously, didn`t slow you down at all.
  13. On ya Paul, just a slight correction, it is reFirement not retirement. Well that`s how I look at it.
  14. Steve`s European detector article also points out another important plus for the Deus over the CTX, single frequency, I use nearly exclusively 4Khz, and with the 9" coil it has a depth advantage over the CTX with its 11" coil. Not knocking ML just my take, be a different story I suspect if I did salt beaches. But its lightness and compactness really gives it the edge, cannot comment too much on its discrimination as dig all non-ferrous, discrimination of Pb, Al etc take out our lovely 1/2 sovereign.

Yes back to IE for me I suspect, have no other dramas with Win 10, yeah Win 8 was my shortest used OS, suspect MS was dipping deep into the water with 8.

Am having some problems with Win 10`s Edge and the 4M, will not allow the posting of smiley faces and at times I have to sign in and out again to post. Suspect my problem may be my satellite Internet conx, not Win 10, just wondering are others having problems here?
  17. Have no problems with the Deus`s GB in the OZ goldfields I prospect, (noisy vlf), although the GPZ is THE gold machine of my choice. The Deus pinpointer is of interest, have you XPUK any knowledge of this.
  18. Had that occur on odd ocasions with the Xs but not with the Z, no matter of tuning would get it out, then it would just go, was told it is probably low ground seeking radar from a close Air Force site. Same symptoms would give an oscillating "hum" even with coil stationary. Can sort of simulate it by having a Deus close even if off, in the Deus`s case probably the coil looking for the remote.
  19. I`m all over the place, from no threshold to plenty, with the GPZ I leave it on 20 sensitivity mainly(but not all the time) and leave screen on threshold setting so as I can adjust quickly. I believe it has got more to do with my tolerance at a particular time of day rather then ground conditions and whether I`m patch hunting or patch cleaning up. On coins I love the Deus and it has a silent threshold, very rarely touch its sensitivity. No headphones on both if conditions allow, but believe it is purely a personal thing based on your hearing and what works for you.
  20. Steve, just looking through your pan of non-ferrous targets, there are no brass buttons, are they not present in your fields? Over here in NQ OZ they are probably the most non-ferrous targets after bullets around old workings.
  21. Got to agree, whilst gold has always paid the way, the hobby is what it is about. To compare with fishing, have an excuse for why I don`t catch many fish, reckon they cost about $5000 each fish (boats, fuel, tackle etc) thus can`t afford to catch many!!!!!!!! A nugget, a coin or a fish tis the same difference if you enjoy.
  22. What have you done SS, Kl`ll be another 40% better at least.
  23. I`d say it is definately a clock key Paul, note towards the rear the two "live" old pin bullets. Get a fair number of those when hunting near old workings, something I don`t do much now days, prefer to hunt away from workings, in "virgin" areas the results are much better, although sometimes weeks or more between finds.
  24. Some of NQ OZ goldfields targets, Note the horse bell on left and how it was "tuned" to give a xteristic sound. The copper/brass cylinder above it is a match container(I think), still has a sort of sandpaper surface on top, for match striker, for its age and where found is in amazing condition, lid unscrews after cleanup. I think the two small collars at front are carrier pigeon leg collars. They have numbers on them
