  1. Which one of these SMFs would you consider waterproof? I've heard of a mod for the Equinoxes that makes them waterproof and used by divers.
  2. You know history is there. Do you really think you have found the oldest piece of it? Prove it. haha
  3. I've been working an old school yard but it can't yield a coin before 1980s! I come here and see what a really old coin is about. That would keep me out in that field several times a week while it is open. Congratulations.
  4. They put a fence around everything before they erect their panels and turbines. I've seen them building numerous installations around Mojave, California. Some of that land I hunted relics and some I hunted nuggets. I can't hunt it now.
  5. Today I got a new profile from Costco. It was similar to the one I got 6 years ago. My word recognition is good. I mostly have high end sound loss. After the profile this time they gave me some programmed hearing aids and they are different than the ear tunnel aids I have now. These have a bit of a swirled feature that keeps them in place I think better. As it turns out for me, when I eat or talk my jaw moves and dislodges the hearing aids. This additional feature plus the price difference may make me not buy these complete in the ear aids. The Costco tech knew I had other hearing aids in my pocket and I mentioned to him that I do metal detecting. I was able to wear the aids out to my car and use my 800 with headphones. They sounded pretty good. This one also has an outdoor app so I could use the Avantrees or maybe even other speakers that come with the detectors. I have one other test scheduled next week at Miracle Ear and then I'll make my next decision. Right now I'd go with the Costco set. It has adjustable frequencies. I told the tech I wanted nuggets to sound real loud! haha
  6. I came back to this thread just to post what you just said! There are actually two different headphones that make individual profiles. I will consider them as I am finding the hearing aids to have a 'seating' problem in my ears. They keep slipping back out and after a bit of jamming back in I get a 'plugged up' sound which is annoying. I was researching headphone with a profile and found what you found. It is quite good you can make your custom hearing to each ear and look at the price difference! Under $100 vs thousands ... Bluetooth Headphones for Hearing Impaired | Aria Me S (avantree.com)
  7. I belong to a few clubs in Southern California. It is the strategy of some of those clubs to use members to claim open claims in the area near the club claims to protect the entire area for miners against environmentalists, solar interests, wind interests and other huge interests that will just sit on the claims and keep us off. They might even have to buy us out in order to get what they want. Some won't sell the dream!
  8. I tried to rain on that party going on out there many years ago but it has now become a storm and I don't comment on it any more. It is like a bad puppy mill. There are 'open' sections that can be detected without needing a claim.
  9. You are a good writer. You could win lots of those contests. They need to send you some coils to test.
  10. It looks like the rings for the lobes we find here but looking at the link I see that it is just a big, fat uncomfortable gold ring that I'm sure the wearer was glad to lose and collect the insurance money!
  11. Lead is selling for a big price these days if you can find a yard that will take it. Just drop in the gold so they give you a little better price.
  12. You have put it together Doc. Hearing aids are reading glasses for the ears!
  13. That is a very big one Simon! It would hurt very much.
  14. Yes, even a blind squirrel can find a patch! It might depend upon how much of a 'turn on and go' detector you have like a Monster.
  15. From Steve's article: Is it necessary to know how a metal detector works in order to use it effectively? Absolutely not. Will knowing how it works help someone to use it more effectively in the future? Quite possibly yes, but only with persistence and practice. The best metal detector available is still only as good as the person using it. Who among us thinks technical when swinging? Do you actually think about the signal exciting the target and you are right on the edge of detectability with that iffy signal?
  16. You won't see Gerry put those chompers in his mouth like he does with his nuggets!
  17. Some of us are challenged by the 'technology' of metal detecting and don't have a clear understanding of what happens when we swing a coil. I'm in that category. I'm a 'user' and respond to the detector without thorough understanding of what is happening. I just read this description of how metal detectors work and it will probably change what I think about when I am now swinging a coil. Is this an accurate, basic description of how we hear a detected object? How Metal Detectors Work | HowStuffWorks
  18. I like what I see. Good work. Nice results. It keeps us going at it. More this year. Mitchel
  19. I'm still not done with my purchase of these aids. I like your options including the sports mode. What brand? I've got a fitting scheduled for Costco that may put me on to one of their less expensive pairs but I hadn't considered the different 'apps' like you are talking about. Now that could really open up the options.
