  1. That is a soldering iron from about 100 years ago, it was heated up either in a forge or a pump-up torch.

They worked great on copper wires and sheets of copper.

Good find and a lot of history behind those items.

Grandfather has 3 of them left in the garage that I have used in the past on some copper sheets. They hold the heat pretty good for their purpose.

Well that is not what I wanted to hear for the simple reason old beer can ends are very abundant in the CW areas I hunt in urban Atlanta.

Now don't forget that in about 50 years those cans will be relics, and you can say that you replanted them to who ever digs them up just leave them a note attached to it.

Sometimes we all have to dig the trash no matter what we want to find out there. When metal detecting for gold in the creeks in my area I find more lead shot than anything. However when I am on the gold it's all good.

I will look through grandfathers books and see if I can find out what it is.

I doubt that it is for some electronic equipment as it is of such a design that it would serve no purpose that I can see since it was soldered in place. The soldering is a tell tale sign of something much larger, and it being gold means that it would be more expensive.

  5. Very nice hunt again for you and now tomorrow I will be sending you some rain, then the next day you can have some colder weather also.

I am hoping to spend some time along a creek when it warms up a little more as i have found an area that look good for more gold. Found a couple of small nuggets there yesterday with the pans and now need the sluice.

Good luck on your next hunt and hug your NOX so she don't get lonely sitting in the closet.

    Stay safe out there.

  6. I made a protector for my NOX by using a boat keel protector tape. It is cheap and removal if need be if you know how to do it. Works really good and I have not had to replace it since I applied it 2 years ago.

I have used the coil in creek beds that are full of gravel and rocks and you can see the scratches on it but not gone through the tape.

Here is a link to it on Amazon.
