  1. What ever detector that you may use know what the ID numbers are of the coins that you would normally find.

I always do a test with the coil that I am going to use and place coins in my garden that I expect to find where I plan to hunt.

That way you can cherry pick which targets to dig. I found that when I am digging in an area that is newer it is always with a lot of trash from who knows where. I will concentrate on the silver first and then go to the other items on my list and have much better luck.

Everyone has given you the best advice and I hope that we have helped in some sort of way.

Using advanced detectors need not be complicated at all. The presets exist for a reason - use them and I don't see why a beginner can't get going, then expand into learning the controls later if they want. Better that than buying a simple detector, then selling it later to upgrade. Surely most people can do this:

Steve, I am a relative Newbie at this detecting thing and have really only used a Tracker IV with my grandfather.

Since he is gone and left me all his things I can honestly say that using the factory presets have been very good to me. Yes I do dig most targets still, but find that the presets have helped me in so many ways and in every type of ground.

I believe in the 800 and know when I do learn more about the unit I will have more fun with it.

  3. Welcome to the forum and glad to have you here with us.

Always enjoy reading about the finds from your area, and love the pictures of where the area is. Beautiful country and beautiful gold you have down there.

    Good luck and good hunting.
