  1. GB, Nice read with some interesting points. Since I am one of the younger people on here I just wanted to say that since I am fairly new at this I believe that every new find I make is rare. I don't have much time to use my detector, but when I do I know that I will always have a good chance to dig up something much older than me. I enjoy sluicing or panning for gold over using a detector but don't get me wrong as I love swinging the 800 at some of the sites near me. I believe that no matter how rare or many there are of coins minted, when one is saved from the ground I could never part ways with them. Grandfather was like that also and his collection was given to me, so they really do mean a lot to me. To all who finds treasures and relics in the ground or waters, know that they are one rare item that you will never forget.
  2. Nice find and it all adds up to something better.
  3. I have a holder that hooks to a harness on my back, and it is really easy to get to when needed.
  4. Congrats on the save of the year and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Good luck on your next outing.
  5. Erik, Congrats on upgrading to an American detector as i know that you will be liking it. Now it may not be the best out there, but it will do the job in your soil. Hope to drop by next week right after you get it just to try it out, I want to know if it works just like the ones in the USA do. Good luck and enjoy your new toy. Caleb
  6. Welcome to the forum and glad to see you here. We all will be looking forward to reading about some of your finds and please post pictures. Good luck and stay safe out there.
  7. It always amaze me to see what you recover form what you have already ran through a sluice. How long will it take you to get through all that you have now, and when will you show your totals. Good luck and stay safe out there.
  8. Let me be clear about this as there is a law that covers this item, and it is called Murphy's law! Nice find, just not what you wanted. Good luck on your next outing.
  9. Wish I had time to hit some of the farms around me, but I am glad to know that you are out there saving our history. When I get back to the states I am going to try to hit at least one good place, but for now I just have to stick it out a little longer in Australia. I think that the bug zappers that we use in the states are causing reincarnation of flies and other bugs down here. That is the only explanation I have for all the bugs here. Good luck and stay safe on your next hunt.
  10. Great save on the history, and very nice find as well . Good luck on your next outing.
  11. Nice bunch of finds from that hunt, the old fishing reel may still have the manufacture's name on it. The reel looks like an old Shakespeare style, one of their first in the casting line. Try to clean it up and get the brand name on it as they are collectable. Good luck on your next outing.
  12. Nice relics that you have saved, and it looks like it was raining on your hunt. Good luck on your next outing.
  13. Just what were those miners doing with a jar like that? Strange people for sure. Nice old finds for real and wish you better luck on your next hunt.
  14. Great hunting and may your next hunt be just as good for you.
  15. Some of the old homes had plaster on walls and ceilings that use a metal mesh to keep it on the walls. With that said detectors would be useless at that point. I have found loose boards in closets, hallways, bedrooms, and attics where people have had a nice little storage place. The older the home the more you have to look. I do remember watching my grandfather use a metal detector in a house after he turned off all power to the house. That cut down on emi and helped detect the walls with his metal detector and pin pointer. Good luck on your adventure.
  16. Why are you upset, you found something gold and metallic, at least you got close.
  17. Nice save, now find the other half of it. Just kidding, but it would be nice if you were able to get another piece of one. Good luck on your next outing.
  18. There is no such thing as to small of gold when I get the chance to go hunting. I can tell you that I have found more flour gold in the creeks around here than I have with a detector. Good luck trying to convince most of these people on here that it's just not worth the time to hunt for it.
  19. Enjoyed the video very much, thanks for sharing it. Easy way to find the gold if you take your time and do it right. This works where no equipment is allowed in creeks and streams, but be careful of water critters. Don't get me wrong there is a lot of hard work, but it is easy to do.
  20. Great little hunt with a few nice finds. My grandmother has a plate just like that. Good luck on your next hunt.
  21. Nice hunting again and glad for the saves. Good luck on your next hunt, stay safe out there.
  22. I will never walk away from a strong signal because if I would I just might miss a ring, coin, or some other good target. Sometimes the numbers and sounds are the same for both good and bad targets so dig everything and don't be sorry about it as it will pay off in the long run.
  23. In a field with grape vines while it is humid there is a chance that the wires for the vines can produce it's own electrical charge. The best way to make sure that is not the case is to place a volt meter to one of the wires and the ground. Make sure that you are looking for very low voltage as it is more likely to be under 1 volt ac. Sometimes on my sub for whatever reason we get a static buildup on the sub.
  24. I believe that they were talking about the museum was made in 2005, because the mine had closed years earlier. Inside the museum they showed some large gold bars, but I think the nugget is real. They pulled a lot gold out of that mine along with silver for many decades. Interesting article for sure, thanks for sharing it.
