For your budget this is your best choice on Amazon. This is a really good detector, but is not waterproof. This would be a great starter unit for anyone or an extra unit for the people who love to detect. You can look up the reviews of the unit on this forum for more information. Welcome to the forum Walt. I am new to detecting as I inherited my grandfathers detectors, but will tell you that I am finding some very nice items with them. The one I use the most is the 800 and I have only been able to log about 40 hours on it so far, but have enjoyed it greatly. For this newbie I have found that the factory setting have worked very good for me, and until I am more used to what it is telling me I will remain with those settings. If the process is done correctly it has a 85% chance of not breaking up. Grandfather done it in the past with a piece he had found, and said he had to keep it cold when cutting through it. They tend to explode when the temp gets to high most of the time, and I can understand what you are saying. Grandfather had several slabs done, but the best he had were done using a water cutting system. Then they were finished and polished. Check with the local recruitment office of the armed services, but don't sign any paper work while your there. They should be able to run the number and locate the person even if they are no longer in the service.

I will buy the first slab from you, to make myself a pendant, and maybe one for my girlfriend. Let me know what you want to do with it. I am sure there are others on here that would be interested also. Figure out how many slabs you can get from it, and see how many people here would be will to buy one and then decide which way you want to do it.

Nice find on the bracelet, looks to be around late 70's mid 80's. Noticed that one of the stones was broken, when you have a piece such as that all the stones should match. When they do it is worth a bundle, that is not a common item and looks hand-made. Good luck on your next hunt, and find the necklace that goes with it.
