That's the way to do it !
Grandpa will be proud.
Thank you I hope that I am making him just as happy as I am learning his detector.

Some nice coins there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well done
Thank you I just wish I had some of the areas where you are at to hunt. I would love to hunt around some of the old castles in your country.
Thank you
1 hour ago, Cal_Cobra said:Awesome hunt! That trime and bust dime, are in great condition and coins that are rarely found, congratulations!
After I had found it I was going back to the car and had dropped it and had to find it again. They are hard to find when they are by themselves, but easier when there are other coins near them. I am always amazed at some of your finds and hope that someday I will be as good as some of the people on this forum. Thanks

Your research paid off.
Research is part of the method my grandfather and people on this forum has taught me. I don't think I could have found them without the people here and the advice from them.

That's the most important thing as it has given me the desire to get back out there.
3 hours ago, GB_Amateur said:Guess they don't smell like rancid whale oil?
3 hours ago, GB_Amateur said:Definitely don't do any cleaning.
They don't smell at all and the only cleaning I plan on doing is the ultrasonic cleaner.
Thank you

I am just happy that I was able to find these coins, the trash was starting to get to me.
Thank you

Trimes always amaze me how thin and small they are.
Congrats!
I could not believe how good they were, and since there is a possibility of gold I go with the feeling of dig everything because of that. Thanks

Looks like copper ore. It may carry some gold values,
Steve it sure looks like a little bit of both copper and gold to me.
I agree with Steve about getting an assay to find what is really in it.
One of the pictures makes the gold flakes look like Pyrite.

Today I had the chance to get out for a couple of hours to do some hunting and decided on a place where over the past 200 years they have had to rebuild the church 3 times. During the time that the church has been at the same spot they have added on to it a few times to what it is today. This church sits on top of a hill next to the original cemetery when the church was built. I remember seeing some of the old photos that showed an old out house near the back of the church and started there.
My first good signal was the typical trash that one would expect to find, and so was the next 20 signals. It seemed that I was going to strike out today when I had a very unusual signal or should I say signals on a small spot of ground.
As I am digging I noticed what I thought was another piece of trash, and then I saw a round edge of something small. I pulled it out of the dirt and found a nice 3 cent piece.
The signal was still on top of the hole I was digging and I pulled out 2 more coins, each of them were dimes.
I rechecked the hole again and nothing else was there, so I decided to fill the hole and call it a day.
I don't think it was to bad for just an hour and a half.
Here are the photos I took in the car of the coins before I can get them cleaned.

Welcome to the forum, we are glad to see you here and willing to help with what ever you need.
Since I have used my grandfathers Equinox 800 I can tell you that the Mine Lab equipment is solid. Many others have tested the Vanquish series which is very good and does just as well as the 800. It is not waterproof but other than that is almost equal to the 800.
There are several threads on here that compare models that are very good and are nice to read.
Good luck and good hunting.

I do not consider any model rated to 10 feet to really be anything more than a wading detector or light snorkel use. Real dive models are rated to 100 feet plus.
Steve, that really helps me in thinking about using my 800 in the creeks near me. Some of them are deeper than 6 feet and I was going to use my scuba tanks with it, now I think I will just keep it above the water most of the time.
Thanks for the information.

Grandfather used to find a lot of items at this place he needed for his equipment, and I think he said they were reasonable.

The best 2 coils to use on the 800 is what everyone has stated before me.
I would go with the stock 11 inch and the 6 inch coil and never look back again.
Good luck on your hunting and be patient on learning the 800, I myself only use the factory presets and have no problems finding anything. It has even found me some smelly things that were keepers.

Welcome to the forum Michael and I am sure that there will be someone in your area to get with you.
Don't get discouraged if you don't hear from someone very quickly, as some members only are on here a few days a week.
In your area I would be hitting the beaches and parks for sure.
Good luck and good hunting.

James, Welcome to the forum and thank you for your service.
Sounds like you have some good equipment and the 600 will serve you well.
I have my grandfathers 800 and I am still learning it, I seem to do better with the factory settings and enjoy the hunt.
Good luck as I know you are in a great area for metal detecting and I am looking forward to seeing some of your finds.

Welcome to the forum GoldenHillbilly!
You have come to the right place to learn the different techniques in this hobby.
You are in a great location for the gold and some nice gems also.
I have done some gold sluicing with my grandfather near Wilton Springs TN. if that is close to you.
Beautiful country for sure and glad to see you here. Please post some of your finds here when you get them.
What type of detector are you planning to pick up?

Welcome to the forum and since I do not know the answer to your question I would suggest posting on the advice and comparison section for a quicker answer.
Good luck.

I am new to detecting
Tony,
Several people here have given you the best information possible as I am also a newbie.
When I am given information from someone here such as Chase I re-read and learn what he has stated.
These people knows more about this equipment than most of the YouTubers out there as the are just making videos. They really never show all the trash, nor do they ever show areas that have nothing except trash.
As a newbie I can tell you read, read, and re-read. Then take your time and learn what the detector is telling you so you know it like the back of your hand. I am still learning my unit and I know it will still take a couple of years to get as good as Chase, Phrunt, or any of the masters on any forum.
Good luck on your next hunt.

Great insight on all the brands and glad to see a point of view from someone that knows their business.
Good hunting and good luck in this 2021 year.
-
Great hunting for such a short time, keep up the work and good luck on your next hunt.
-
That is a once in a lifetime find that you have uncovered from the past, what secrets it holds is anyone's guess.
Keep up the hunt and get the rest of the set or at least another piece, they should be close to where you found that one.
Good luck on your next hunt and Happy New Year.

Beach Techniques

For the type of beach that you described I would use the method that Geof has described. He has found a lot of items and I plan to use some of his ideas on a local beach.
Good luck and good hunting.
