It really is amazing how sensitive the Legend is to very small targets, no matters what coil. I actually seldom run in M2 because it will have me digging too much tiny stuff. A .22 Short slug is small enough for me. JFYI, the Rutus Versa in Multi F Low conductor will see even smaller targets than the Legend. Maybe @EL NINO77can give an opinion on it’s nugget hunting potential.

@RickUK all too true. I have rejoined. I hope you and others will also.

For those interested, Tom Dankowski’s detecting forum has finally been upgrade to a new host platform. It is accessible via a link on the old site at the top of the page. You will have to re register for the new forum but can use your old login. The old site will remain as a read only source of information.

Very neat. Is it made from actual steel wire nails or a nobler metal? Glad you and the Tar are getting out.

A very informative test. I don’t have the opportunity to nugget hunt but even so, SMF detectors opened up a whole new level of detection in difficult soils for me. Their ability to run smooth & stable in the worst mineralized ground, with Iron trash to boot is still a wonder to me. I still have & use my older Single frequency units for certain scenarios & also just for fun, but SMF is the way to go most of the time. EMI has never really caused me a lot of problem. Lowered sensitivity still gets most jobs done if need be. I will usually lower Audio Gain first, then lower Recovery speed if practical. The Legend’s default AG is 1 in Gold Field, I assume that is what you were running. Hope you can get out of the house soon.

Simplex Ultra ...a Few Finds.
JCR replied to lostmypassworddude's topic in Nokta / Makro Metal Detectors
Around here, any trash that could not be burned like glass & metal was dumped in a nearby low spot or gully or down into a ravine. You can use a detector with a standard large coil to find the large area signal of Iron. Once found, a probe works very well to feel what is down there. Glass, metal, rocks, roots & both disturbed & undisturbed soil all have their own feel. -

Those two videos by @phrunt are very encouraging. Seems new ground has been broken as far as usable ID. -

Sounds like a good area to find some bottles in trash dump spots. -

Welcome back into the hobby.

I am not positive but I think you can run V rated coils on the MXT just fine.

As Steve wrote above and make it very, very good on inland coins & relics in bad dirt.

The post above is a good example of how & why a True All Metal Motion channel would be very useful in certain conditions. It is a shame that none of the more recent high end SMF introductions include this once common feature. It is already in the detector, just limited to Non Motion Pin Point. The Rutus Versa is the only example I know of that offers it as a user option.

The Vista X is a fun to run machine. Very capable.

I will dig a Graphite stick out of an old battery now & then on relic sites.

Just curious, was that the Concentric or DD 5 inch coil you were using? -

That book by Brockett is a good one. -
Now that’s enthusiastic detecting. I have hunted a few drained lakes & know how tiresome & messy it is. Your soreness brings back memories of the first few duck hunts in the marsh each season. A mile or so of slogging around in chest waders uses a whole different set of muscles.

Very nice hunt. I like your “link” item, looks like a rocker arm of some sort.- 12 replies

Your experience just goes to show that site conditions determine performance, not current opinion of what is the latest & greatest. Your hard earned knowledge found those targets. The 5 inch coil on the F75 did it’s part as expected. I really appreciate that a site will still hold some keepers if you continue to try and hunt smart. Otherwise, things would get boring pretty quick.- 16 replies
