  1. If you are pleased with the Atrex's capabilities you might want to seriously look at the new Rutus Versa. It is very light weight & balanced in a modern waterproof package.  The modes & options mirror the Atrex, but the performance has been enhanced considerably. The upcoming software update will enhance it even more. I think a Deus I would be going backwards on performance.

  2. This topic is certainly getting into the weeds of professional level detecting. That is why this Forum is so special.

The selectable TID scale vs normalized TID offered as an option on some former top of the line units(Deus I, Impact/Anfibio Multi & Rutus Alter 71/Atrex) would help to some extent. That user choice is missing from the current top releases. I would like to have it back, just because it may be useful in certain situations.

  3. For those interested, Tom Dankowski’s detecting forum has finally been upgrade to a new host platform. It is accessible via a link on the old site at the top of the page. You will have to re register for the new forum but can use your old login. The old site will remain as a read only source of information.

  4. A very informative test.

I don’t have the opportunity to nugget hunt but even so, SMF detectors opened up a whole new level of detection in difficult soils for me. Their ability to run smooth & stable in the worst mineralized ground, with Iron trash to boot is still a wonder to me. I still have & use my older Single frequency units for certain scenarios & also just for fun, but SMF is the way to go most of the time.

EMI has never really caused me a lot of problem. Lowered sensitivity still gets most jobs done if need be. I will usually lower Audio Gain first, then lower Recovery speed if practical.  The Legend’s default AG is 1 in Gold Field, I assume that is what you were running.

Hope you can get out of the house soon.

  5. Around here, any trash that could not be burned like glass & metal was dumped in a nearby low spot or gully or down into a ravine.  You can use a detector with a standard large coil to find the large area signal of Iron. Once found, a probe works very well to feel what is down there. Glass, metal, rocks, roots & both disturbed & undisturbed soil all have their own feel.
