  1. Welcome from East Texas. You are bound to find some interesting items.
  2. Garrett is always very tight lipped until close to release. It is about time for their SMF AT to be ready. It will be interesting to see if they will move out of their middle of the road conservatism to embrace some cutting edge capabilities. The Axiom gives me some encouragement they will step up their VLF game.
  3. You guys are too much. I have learned so much about so many things from the members here. That’s what this forum is all about. Shared knowledge, experience and good fellowship. Thank you Steve H for making it possible.
  4. Yes. just like the Vista X. 8 AA cells. 12 volt.
  5. You might consider some hip boots, either fishing or hunting style.
  6. It is hard to find much of any kind of shoe/boot that has a proper sew on welt and sole. When you find some they are relatively expensive but usually superior quality. You know, made like they used to, So very old fashion. These modern, mass produced, cheap overseas labor glue on soles do not hold up well at all. Maybe Danner or Red Wing or some quality Western boots like Tony Llama. Welcome to the forum from East Texas.
  7. The buttons & coin are certainly nice but the relics are super. I am always surprised at how kind your dirt is. The Tee handled tool is a gimlet. It was used to start screw holes in wood.. The complete chain bit is really great. The bullet mould should clean up nice. I bet you will find it marked. Probably Colt's. The Percussion rifle hammer & Jew's harp are great too. I think you are correct on the buggy step plate.
  8. Often times my detecting is more about unlocking a site's conditions than cleaning up pesky good targets. Glad you had a triumph!
  9. An axe was/is a much more specialized tool than us Moderns appreciate. Probably only second to a good rifle in opening the wilderness and equal to the plow. I have always found the different patterns very interesting. Axe Info.pdf

  12. That is a very nice place to detect, so much history. I'm glad you are able to recover some of it's past.
  13. I too have learned that letting the copper & nickel items dry out & harden is a must. Your on to a new fun & rewarding aspect of the hobby.
  14. I think Iffy's test videos are legitimate for what they are, tests. They give information that is useful TO BE APPLIED to actual hunting. I also think he is objective & without real bias, unlike some other loud voices on You tube. I cannot think of one top end detector that has come out the past 5+ years that did not "need" some updating to become better optimized for real world performance. I'm glad manufacturers pay attention to the feedback and try to implement improvements. I have 10 different detectors. None are the best at every task or site. Each can do something enough different than any of the rest to be useful to me. They are not the same. I'm glad they are not. That is part of the reason I stay interested in learning & becoming a better operator.

  16. Amazing condition on the coin. The branding iron is certainly unique & special. I think the other iron item is some sort of heavy duty strap adjuster. There should be some more interesting items at that site.
