  1. I have several set ups in my test garden that mixes targets/trash at varying depths & orientations. I try to simulate different sites I hunt. It is very informative & shows each detector/coil/frequency's capabilities at various settings.
  2. Very nice recovery. There's a reason a 10" Dime is used as a benchmark depth target. They aren't easy.
  3. For modern trash hunting I use the Anfibio Multi in 5 DI with customized Tones & breaks. 0 Disc. Usually run the 7" concentric but also the 5" DD for the densest areas. Gain 50 or so. 5kHz or 14. I intend to try the Vista X & 5.7" coil with the first Disc set at the pulltab point. Gain & threshold around 35 each.
  4. Never know what you will find. Anything could be anywhere. Now you need to figure out why that was there & what else may be. Nice condition too.
  5. Different detectors & different coils each have their own "perspective" in what they can see. I think this is a good thing. It justifies my having 6 detectors, all with different strengths & multiple coils for each. It also means no site is every totally hunted out. The fun never ends!
  6. You inspire me to work on my Modern trash technique!
  7. I'm sorry to know you will be missing your friend. If he was from Menard, Burnham Brothers makes some of the best predator calls you can get. He must have been a great all around fellow.
  8. That thimble sounds impressive, especially if it was in Iron. Have not had any issues with button function. Just the button pusher. If it continues to be a problem you can contact Dimitar. He would want to know about it.
  9. Sounds like that site has a lot of potential. Quite a few of my better sites have been grown up like that. It is amazing how much you can improve the searchability of a place like that with a few hours and some good loppers. Plus you have a helper!
  10. Yes, Black Sand ON does help. At my worst EMI site, 18 kHz is the most affected. 12 & 9 kHz are better, 6.4 kHz is the least chatty. I am not afraid to go to a different frequency as far as thinking I will miss certain targets. Even 6.4 will hit very small targets. I try to set the Sensitivity for the ground conditions and use the Threshold for EMI or tiny Iron flakes. I will run it down to -6 before I drop Sensitivity. Threshold has much less effect on depth. I tend to use 18 kHz only in heavier Iron. I use 6.4 the most but 9 & 12 run well on most sites. Dimitar stated 12 kHz was particularly good on red soil sites. It is all a matter of balancing for the particular site. No two are the same, no day is the same. If you need to lower the Sensitivity to get stable that's okay. The MDT is still very deep@4 or 5 & TH @-3. Prove it to yourself on a found mid depth target. It will give you confidence in the machine and your self. Looking forward to hearing about your experience in Culpepper. You two will do well I bet.
  11. GhostLight; very nice rig. Looks like you are set up for precision recoveries. It is all much too clean though.
  12. I checked my set up after work. It is the Stereo(2 bands on the tip) adapter that worked.
  13. I have been compiling a fresh list of researched sites that are built over with modern "improvements". They all have a small area of green left uncovered. I have dug some good finds in small overlooked nooks & strips. You just never know. Most have probably never seen a detector.
  14. The Killer Bs are wired. I use the Garrett WS R receiver and just tuck it all in. It is worth the cord to get the sound quality. Don't overlook the convenience of the Garrett AT Z Lynk pipointer being a seemless part. I have one set up on the Vista X and purchased a second set up for the Tarsacci, including a second set of headphones. The Hornet model has it's own 1/8 to 1/4 adapter which was a nice feature.
  15. It will take a bit to post a photo of my set up as I don't use a smartphone. I will try. I will add that the Garrett MS3 & MS2 sound okay on the Tarsacci, BUT my 150 ohm Killer Bs sound so much better. They bring out the disc tones in Mixed mode very well. Crisp instead of muddy.
  16. My set up for Z Lynk is similar but my Tarsacci supplied dongel has the 90 degree on the multi pin end at the control head. The 1/8 to 1/4 adapter I use is one piece, no wire in the middle. Purchased at a Guitar / music store. They come in stereo & mono. Pretty sure it is the mono version that worked. I bought both to be sure.
  17. That is a good, functionable rig. I use something similar, a 3 pouch Dove hunting belt bag. Works just right.
  18. You dug some very nice relics. That site has more to come. I think the large nickeled piece might be from an accordion. Yes, Disc +29 works well in the Iron. Swing speed is important, not too fast. Your running pretty hot settings & they seem to be working well, but it is still deep at lower sensitivity. What is your GB?
  19. In one of the books I have written by Charles Garrett & Rot Lagal, they recommend low sensitivity, small coil and just enough Discrimination to eliminate SMALL nails. Remember that money caches were often placed in tobacco tins or similar containers. You would also need very good coil control to be thorough & to be able to trace out pipes or wiring. Searching old structures used to be more common in the past. Most are gone now.
  20. Nice coin with odd marks. It makes you wonder why. On the Tarsacci, I have found that the nail falses will break up/disappear as you rotate around the target in Disc. I have also found Disc 29/30 to be helpful in heavier nails. You can still tell the bigger Iron though to dig it if you want to get it out of the way.
  21. I have the NELS 9.5X5 Sharpshooter for my Fisher F5 and it is excellent.
