10 Things I Like And 5 Things Don't Like About The Garrett Apex
JCR replied to abenson's topic in Garrett Metal Detectors
Very good discussion here. I too look forward to Garrett's introduction of the AT Flagship version of Multiflex. I also hope they will introduce a small & mid size concentric coil for both series. As far as Garrett's Iron Audio, I have only found it useful in Motion All Metal mode on the AT Max. It works quite well down to about 50% of target response depth. In Disc mode I usually hunt in Zero or Custom 31. The Apex is a nice unit for the intended market. Garrett's Z Link systems are the best out there as far as I'm concerned. I have 2 external set ups running Killer B's & Garrett pinpointers. -
Glad Garrett got you fixed up quickly. They are great on service.

Welcome. You have good, historic ground to hunt and a very good selection of detectors. Take care of your Dad, but take a little time to care for yourself. Cooler weather is on the way!

First Ever Silver Thimble At 1850's Site
JCR replied to Goldpick's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Great finds & very nice thimble. Some woman was very proud of that gift. -
I like the look of the coil. Does the man in the advertisement look familiar to anyone? The copy sounds like it will be a little while longer before it is on the market.

The Tarsacci MDT maybe a viable option for your Iron littered sites. It should handle the Mineralization well and runs very smooth in Iron. The size Gold you are wanting to find should be in it's capabilities. You can send an E mail from the Tarsacci Forum site and Dimiter, the owner/engineer will probably be the one who answers you enquiry.

Steve, I have to assume if you decided to be a dealer for the Tarsacci, you are liking the way it performs in your Oklahoma Red dirt. So far I am, using it in the East Texas version.

I remember in the introductory video that Garrett's Design engineer mentioned the Apex MF uses other, additional frequencies besides the 5,10,15&20. Some higher than the 20kHz.

The MS 3 headphones are very good. I just find the 150 ohm headphones to give a brighter, more distinct tone. I keep the receiver pod in my right shirt pocket.
-
That's a good set up. I have rigged my MDT 8000 similarly but with the Garrett Z Link & Killer B's Hornet headphones. The larger ear cups are nice and it also has the 1/4 to 1/8 screw off adapter. If I need to, I can plug them in directly to the pig tail. The sound quality for me is improved, especially the Disc audio.

Will A Smaller Coil Help Me And My Garrett AT Max?
JCR replied to mh9162013's topic in Garrett Metal Detectors
I think the 4.5" coil is a double stack co planar design. The 6.5X9 is also a great coil and usually gives more stable TID numbers than the DDs. -

The 4.5" coil's specialty is dense shallow trash or in/around playground/fence poles. If I were to get a larger than stock coil it would be the new Garrett Reaper. I have always found their coils to be excellent on their machines. -

The 5X8 is a good choice for an all around coil. The 4.5 is a specialty tool. I would keep the stock coil for less trash sites. It is a very good coil in the right conditions. I am a big believer in having multiple coils for each detector. -
The Salt Balance seems to work more as a notch window rather than in a linear fashion. I am still experimenting on some pretty bad ground that also has plenty of nails. I should probably start out on an easier spot but I have been digging some nice targets that I had missed with other machines. Some deep, some mid depth.

I have the AF 35 for my Anfibio. It is a very good coil in the right sites. Very deep, separates well & very stable. Not too heavy if you shorten the shaft a little. The SP version should be the same.

New Permission - Old Farmhouse
JCR replied to F350Platinum's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
That 1907 English Penny may very well have been brought back as a souvenir by a returning WW1 soldier. Perhaps the landowner's Grandfather? Each item found has a story. -
That's pretty country around there.

Gold Rush Camp Finds In The Heat
JCR replied to ROCKINGCM's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
If the little lettered tag you found is made of Copper based metal it might be a printing plate for an old newspaper advertisement. I have found some before. Pretty neat. -
Welcome. You have joined a nice bunch of folks here.

We found how much we enjoy tis forum. I hope Steve found some treasure on his trip like peace & quiet and a big nugget of serenity.

Thanks for the reply. I am looking forward to learning this new machine/tech. How do you set up for the sandy ground and/or nails? I have some sugar sand sites too, most with a good bit of small iron & nails.

Have you had a chance to hunt that Red dirt some more? What is the GB & what settings have you found to work well. Any Iron to deal with? I have a MDT 8000 that should be here tomorrow to run in my East Texas Red dirt sites.

I'm also glad the forum is back up. I missed reading the posts more than I thought I would.
