That is a great tool, well thought out.   I have carried a magnet in my digging pouch for years & recently epoxied one on the end cap of my pin pointer. Very handy.  Nice catch on the Quarters.

Those are some interesting targets.  The newer detectors that have a Conductive Ground Subtraction option certainly perform better when needed for the conditions. Better than having a Beach mode as the only option for Inland.  Did you play around with the option to reduce you Max frequency?

 You can send some of that rain here. We are too dry for this early in the year.

The Legend's Bottle Cap rejection control also works well for rotten sheet metal trash found around old farmsteads. It actually works better,  as 1 or 2 is usually sufficient to break it up.

Yes, it will hunt in trash if you are slow & patient. We had a past member here, "Geezer", that was his specialty using very low sensitivity & threshold levels.

That is some great resource material. I think you have it corralled. It makes sense iron may have been used for rocky terrain instead of brass.

You dug some interesting targets. I really like the glass. Neat place to hunt.

Ball buttons fit the same historical time frame and were almost always associated with military. Mostly Academy, Militia/Volunteers.  I have dug a few. The usually have a Back mark. The raised back on yours is unusual. It also looks slightly oval instead of round.

Yes, it is a very good machine and so easy to run well.  The LG35 coil is excellent & I use it quite a bit, even in moderate trash.

That is a neat piece. No real telling but my first thought was a flag staff  or big tent pole spike.

3 works well and it pretty safe for coins.

The Tarsacci is actually a mediocre performer depth wise in mild ground. It needs minerals and/or iron as a background to show the contrast with non ferrous targets. The Salt Balance functions to see through the Conductive fog of salt/mineral water and things like coke or foil. The unit is not like a regular VLF. This gives it attributes and a few quirks. I think you are going to do well.

The MDT's Salt Balance should handle the coke just fine, even when wet.

@longbow62 What you described is the detector processing the signal with repeated sweeps of the coil.  When you first hit that tricky target the detector sounds off based on it's first quick glance, If you make repeated passes over the target WITHOUT RELEASING it from the influence of the coil, the detector will continue processing/analyzing the target. This could be either processed down to an iron tone or completely out/gone. It can also process up, allowing a good target to come thru as the bad is removed. The more open your settings, the more often you will see this. This is a good thing, thanks to modern tech.  If you release the tricky target from the coil, then hit it again fresh, it starts all over. I'm as impatient as the next fellow and have to remind myself to have some trust and let the detector do it's work. If it holds a high tone it gets dug. Good chance it's non ferrous. 100% chance I will learn a little bit more.

Welcome to DP forum. This is a really good place to get ideas & learn. Private permissions maybe your best option for places to hunt. You probably know more people than you realize. Just start talking & asking. You will be surprised. There may also be a detecting club close enough to join. That would be the best resource.
