Yes, it is a very good machine and so easy to run well. The LG35 coil is excellent & I use it quite a bit, even in moderate trash.

That is a neat piece. No real telling but my first thought was a flag staff or big tent pole spike.

3 works well and it pretty safe for coins.

@Joe D. How is the Pantera performing for you?

The Tarsacci is actually a mediocre performer depth wise in mild ground. It needs minerals and/or iron as a background to show the contrast with non ferrous targets. The Salt Balance functions to see through the Conductive fog of salt/mineral water and things like coke or foil. The unit is not like a regular VLF. This gives it attributes and a few quirks. I think you are going to do well.

The MDT's Salt Balance should handle the coke just fine, even when wet.

@longbow62 What you described is the detector processing the signal with repeated sweeps of the coil. When you first hit that tricky target the detector sounds off based on it's first quick glance, If you make repeated passes over the target WITHOUT RELEASING it from the influence of the coil, the detector will continue processing/analyzing the target. This could be either processed down to an iron tone or completely out/gone. It can also process up, allowing a good target to come thru as the bad is removed. The more open your settings, the more often you will see this. This is a good thing, thanks to modern tech. If you release the tricky target from the coil, then hit it again fresh, it starts all over. I'm as impatient as the next fellow and have to remind myself to have some trust and let the detector do it's work. If it holds a high tone it gets dug. Good chance it's non ferrous. 100% chance I will learn a little bit more.

Welcome to DP forum. This is a really good place to get ideas & learn. Private permissions maybe your best option for places to hunt. You probably know more people than you realize. Just start talking & asking. You will be surprised. There may also be a detecting club close enough to join. That would be the best resource.

That sounds like a real interesting & fun opportunity. I had never even heard of cylindrical shot. That must be very early. About what diameter is it? Was it used in a fowling piece?

I think it is similar to XP's X-Y screen. On the Atrex, the headphones are sold as an accessory along with a wireless transmitter. There is also a mated wireless receiver available for other HPs. This is very similar to Garrett's Z Lynk. Hopefully the Versa will have a built in transmitter like other waterproof detectors. Final specs are still to be announced.

It does not appear to be large enough to hold any usable amount of Black Powder for reloading. 40-70+ grains is needed for most calibers. How much Mercury is used to amalgamate a small take of Gold?

I am curious about the little "spoon" also. Perhaps to handle Mercury? The suspender clip is very neat. Nice RF cartridge cases too. .44 Henry? Hopefully V1.1 will get the D2 lined back out. The Legend does very well in the iron. I keep my first Tone break at 7 to help unmask in small ferrous. Nice hunt.

Mark, Read all the forum discussion you can about running the Tarsacci, here and on Dankowski's forum. It will help a lot on the learning curve. That and try several different pairs of headphones until you find some that bring out the Tones the best for YOU. It should prove to be a very good machine in your red clay. I have the same type of soil on many of my relic sites but without the coal waste. Folks in East Texas were wood burners!
