  1. This video looks like it been made to promote this cheap chinese made twin box detector, normally when comparing say 2 machines like for like the person who made the video does not normally include all the contact details for the detector ie email and other vital contact details.......indirectly it could be seen as a very clever detector spam video.....could be wrong though.
  2. In theory i would agree with you,but in practice of using my original green T2 which i have owned since 2006/7 and the Equinox for possibly 15 months, the T2 has found me the most artifacts and coinage including the most gold coinage than all my other detectors.I certainly would not class myself as a novice or anything like that. But of all my detectors which for the most part are single freq machines machines the T2 has that certain magic that other machines have not produced, the only other machine that has come close to find the celtic gold staters that the T2 has is my DFX which i have owned since 2002/3 that has had 1000s of hours of use under the belt and although that is a dual freq machine most DFX including mine is usually run in 15khz. The Nox using multi freq excels in certain situations like say wet beach conditions, some of my roman sites that have ultra high mineral content, great depth on pasture but my T2 does not hang about depth wise on pasture either when using AM mode and big NEL coils. For pure depth and the Equinox even if used with multi freq or even single freq just wont come near what either of my Nexus machine can get depth wise and those are single freq and running low freq's as well. So although multi freq do have some advantages and i do use them accordingly so also some single freq machines can perform as goo as and in some cases exceed what some multi freq machines can do.
  3. Gunnar,a terrific find, video works for me so not sure what the problem is from some folks unable to view it. Love the HF coil on my Deus, albeit mine is not the round version mine is the elliptical coil, but with just 2 detectors ie the Deus and the Equinox i have all freqs covered from 4khz right upto 80khz,have almost all scenarios covered with just these 2 machines. Well done on finding the matching pair.
  4. Welcome, some tremendous finds, have detected with Gordon (Ironhearted Gog' a few times over the years and also possibly on one of the hardest inland sites to detect a roman trading villa site as the soil conditions are just like black high mineral sand that you find on the beach its that bad,but machines like the GPX which you use have accounted for many many coins found on this site infact the huge amount is staggering. One main thing i learnt from Gordon when related to using a Pulse machine in this instant also is the GPX 5K is the 'spray paint' method' when on farmland using a special marker spray can on either a new permission or one that has all ready produced a hoard,in Gorden's YouTube video that he made some years back he demonstrated how he uses his GPX and a Minelab705 together trying to locate possibly more gold full staters from the original hoard......this is a method that i adopted some years back albeit not with a GPX but a TDI Pro with the 15x12 GPX mono coil and the Nexus MP both work identically to the same system devised by Gordon. The history on your sites ie roman and saxon etc and basically the exact same as what we find here in the UK,very well done on your finds,i can also relate to your comments about depth and the main reason behind why you use the GPX for deep artefact/hoard hunting and the reason why a Pulse with large coil is required as it only possibly takes just one decent find at that greater depth to pay for all the detectors many times over. Enjoy your style of detecting.
  5. A terrific and very interesting topic, but one that although the common denominator here is 'metal detecting' can vary and we adapt using what detectors best suits the job in hand ie in Aussieland or Arizona and your targets are gold nugget hunting then depth is important as well as a machine for extremely small targets hence high freq VLF and PI suits that type of detecting. For me personally and for my type of detecting and the targets that i am after here in the UK then i use machine best suited to our extreme historical past going back 1000s of years, also the extreme variations is materials used, this could be from using gold, silver, bronze, lead and many other different metals and also the added twist and complications of additional metals into various combinations eg a silver coin or gold coin from say 1000 years ago could have a higher content or even a lesser content of base metal due to how the economy was at that time. So for me i tend to use 2-3 or even more detectors as in my mind no one detector does it all across such a wide spectrum as what we have on offer,so my way of thinking is that i use 2 main machines ie Deus and Equinox that cover the freq from 4khz upto 80khz then also bring into the equation also not desirable targets like some extremely trash roman/saxon sites then also coil size on the 2 main machines also can improve the odds in your favour,so matching coils to said machines can also be as important as using the correct freq. For the most part even though our history is extremely rich and varied most common finds across the spectrum are found within the top say 6-8'' for the most part, hence most detectors can find these common finds like say roman and silver/gold hammered coins using a stock 10'' coil, but also its not uncommon for us to find finds that are say the highly valuable ones this could be say artifacts or hoards which could well be below the eveyday 8'' finds layer that most folks like detecting for.But by using a everyday detector most folks unless its a very large pot could possibly miss these more desirable deeper hidden targets like hoard. One has to remember that banks and other saving institutions are modern forms of saving valuables but with such a long history as on the UK the safest place to store valuables till war and other major problems past was by hiding said artefacts and valuables in the ground near say a strategic location near a tree, building or what ever waiting for the original owner to return and retrieve the item but alas this often never happened hence the reason why so many hoards are found and this is my personal opinion many many more are still awaiting to be found. This brings me onto my obsession with either using VLF or PI machines with larger coils like my TDI Pro,2 Nexus machines and also my TW-5 twin box and the reason for this is that if i suspect that even the slimmest of possibilities that a large artefact/hoard could be in that location due to the previous history then i always carry one heavy hitter with me as well as my 2-3 machines that i use,the logic behind my way of thinking is that if i find say a tight radius of coins this is a classic indication that a scattered haord that has been clipped by the plough is in this area then the heavy hitter either VLF or PI comes into its own and yes i have used these a few times.I like to think that i try and cover all possibilities if i am away on a days detecting and these means from small single coins right upto large deep artefacts and hoards and also increase the odds in my favour. It may seem like i am over doing it but if i was using say just one machine with a happy medium stock coil then i would find possibly everything upto say 12'' depending on item size that is but targets that are more desirable maybe deeper upto the average hoard depth of say a man laying on the ground and putting said hoard at arms length from say 18-24'' depth and in some cases deeper. Its possibly a long winded post and possibly folks who hunt solely for deep gold would not relate to how i detect and why i use the detectors that i do and the methods that i use,but i can only mention how i detector and why,but sharing this fascination and interesting hobby of ours is always wonderful.
  6. I own a Fisher TW-5 twin box and as Steve has mentioned that you do need to align the coils which is not a hard job, only take a minute or so and then you can use the machine, the TM808 is carried like a suitcase but the TW-5 that i use has a alloy bar that hold both the boxes at either end and is carried from the shoulder by a strap. Not used it much and the only reason i bought it about 5 year back was it was practically brand new and was not a cheap machine with all the accessories that came with it,but some novice bought it thinking they would find the Holy Grail but sold it a week later for a 1/3 of the original price, hence why i pounced on it quickly. My 1st choice was going to be the Whites the one with the cave mode, but when this TW-5 came along that one had my name written all over it with a 'sold sticker' on it.Interesting machine but once you grasp the basics on how they work and how to set them up its pretty basic. Not been out with it this year due to the current pandemic but do have a few sites that i could do with running the twin box over, depth subject to the size of the target/s is off the scale. You have to take into account the 'reward to effort' ratio when using them as digging deep holes for rubbish is not alot of fun,but if you start finding coins in a very tight radius and of the same/similar type which indicates a scattered hoard that has been dragged up by the plough then its situations like this when you would use the twin box and then you hope digging that deep hole/s was not in vain 🙂
  7. So sorry to hear this terrible news R.I.P Reg
  8. Have downloaded the latest update, out most of tomorrow as the crops have been cut on my local permission/s,so its time too start some serious detecting time going into autumn/winter these are the peak months for us. Will be detecting right next door to the great roman road up north the A1,so will see if this update makes any difference.
  9. Must admit i still prefer my Deus over my Equinox, wont sell the Nox will just be a expensive backup machine come pasture detector.it will mainly be used when i require some extra depth so will then use it probably just in 5 or 10khz and AM mode i feel that is when this detector could earn it keep as it is deeper than the Deus. Of course our targets and locations are different so we adopt different detecting techniques accordingly.
  10. Absolutely brilliant video, thoroughly enjoyed it,not only was it superbly made but you could tell from it Steve's passion and honesty was amazing.......one of the best videos that i have seen for a very long time. Thank you for producing the video and thanks again to Steve for sharing your passion.
  11. Have been watching these stocks and gold in generally,i feel that most of the current activity of price rises is due to the uncertainty because of the current Pandemic and gold has always been seen a relatively safe haven in situations like we are currently in.
  12. Will follow your progress with this machine, interesting to see how it performs on roman sites, certainly has something magic about it,but i will still wait for folks who have many ours of UK time under the belt before i would even think about pulling the trigger on one. They do sound interesting machines and always willing to add space in my man cave for another machine.Trouble is i am running out of space as as i all ready have a obscene amount of detectors that cover almost all my needs. Will certainly be following this post Dave on your progress.
  13. A very good video, must admit i have never had any problems with bottle caps as such as i think most caps would be found on the beach and because i live so far inland and only detect farm land,so bottle caps are a rarity for me and cannot recall the last time i dug one up.Ring pulls are also not a problem as such either probably dig up just say a couple a year if that. I guess its the location that you detect in that dictates bottle caps and pulltabs,if you detect near or on beaches and high traffic areas like parks etc then the amount of caps and pulltabs will be so much higher than say in the middle of a 100 acre field right out in the sticks. Shotgun caps, roman nails from hobnail boots and military buttons by the 1000s that we find on alot of fields are our biggest problems i guess and the biggest problem in recent years is 'green waste' its when farmer get paid to spread what we are told is organic waste and that is spread over fields, this is so far from the truth as it often has highly toxix waste like chopped up pcb board, medical waste including needles and other non desirable items as well and many a decent high productive field has been rendered useless as every few inches metal waste triggers the detector off and you cannot detect the decent stuff hidden underneath the waste. You folks across the pond have problems with bottle caps and pulltabs but we have the green waste issues.
  14. Gunnar, some great finds, although i dont own a Orx i have used one a few times but my main machine is the Deus and has been for many years but the elliptical coil on is a deadly combination on trashy roman/saxon sites that are littered with the nails from the hob nails from the romans shoes. Target separation is amazing with the ultra fast recovery from the XP machines, well done on some great finds.
  15. I bought one of the 15'' coil brand new for £60 which at the time seemed a remarkable bargain, but after just 1hrs use its the biggest load of rubbish i have ever bought coil wise for my T2,a couple of my favourite artifact hoard hunting coils that i use on the T2 are my SEF15x12 for its size that pretty lightweight, gives great depth, ground coverage but also still found me some single silver hammered coins at depth. The other large coil that i also use is the BIG NEL 17x15 that punches deep but mainly on golfball size object and above but it is very deep but slightly on the heavier side hence why i prefer the SEF 15x12 coil as its so much lighter. The SEF15x12 coil when used on the T2 in AM mode gives great depth and often my main pasture machine after the Nexus MP and 14'' coil. A couple of other machines that i also use for real deep hoard/artefact hunting is my Fisher TW-5 twin box and the TDI Pro with either the 18'' Mono or 20'' Mono coils on,but the deepest by a miles and that is of course subject to the size of the target is the Fisher TW-5 twin, the larger the target the deeper it goes its rarely used but for the price i paid for it almost new makes it worth my while keeping it in my massive array of detector and coils.
  16. I took my GSP (Germany Shorthaired Pointer) out with me once and she was a total nightmare, all she wanted to do is chase the rabbits and pigeons so did not get much detecting done that day,so she stays at home with the wife while i go detecting.
  17. The only real one that seems to do a decent job is the Nokta/Makro Invenio Pro.
  18. Sven,a terrific write up about this unusual machine, must admit it sounds exactly like both my Nexus machine, this is just from reading your initial review and also from my observations as well that although these have amazing depth and most folks tend too run them almost flat out but then the machines run very erratic as well. Like your i have multiply large coils for this type of machine but the best results in not only hitting small target as well as larger deep targets but the smaller 8x6 DD coil at 'minimum' sensitivity gives me amazing depth and the machines run as smooth as silk.No question about it these are deep machines but not as daunting or un-reliable as most previous owner have found them and sold them on at a massive loss. A great read as usual.
  19. Tony the only thing that was changed and i will admit it was not me that changed it but the coil plug was changed so that it worked with my 'original' Crossbow Pulse, the designer and builder of just 13 Crossbow machines was George Overton who with Carl own Geotech1 forum,i bought the coil beand new from a Dealer who had a sale here in the UK,i approached George asking if this Mono coil would work and the challenge was accepted. He changed the coil plug which is basically straight forward after working out which terminals to use on the plug, one other thing i will highlight that he also did was i think he added some resistor just inside the control box which connected to the terminal this was so that the coil and control box could wok together in harmony for a better way of putting.I could find the exact details and calculations that George Overton used and the exact same alterations had been done when he also got the 14x9 SeaHunter coil up and running as well.......both work exceptionally well but my favourite is the the small 8'' SeaHunter Mono coil. If you need any other help/advice or what ever dont be afraid to ask,i mainly use the Crossbow Pulse as a hoard/relic hunter as the design of this machine was originally made for depth on largish items rather than say fine timings for small gold jewellery. For small gold items i use my TDI Pro and especially my Mirage Pulse with a small 5.5'' Mono coil which i also did at one time have on my Crossbow.
  20. Must admit i have never used the WS4 headphones, only headphones i use are the WS5 full cup ones which i use about 95% of the time as i want to cut out as much external noise as a can,on occasions when its really hot and dont want sweaty ears i use a set of over the ear Sennheiser wired headphones direct into the control box.Very light weight and at least you dont have horrible ears after a long days detecting. Was out all day yesterday and boy oh boy was it hot and yest i forgot the small headphones so only had the Full cup WS5 heaphones and was not a pleasant experience for sure.
  21. I use the 8'' Garrett Mono coil on my 'Crossbow' pulse works exceptionally well, also have the 14x9 coil as well, both work well but the 8'' is my favourite out of the 2.Very good depth and also good for smaller targets like jewellery etc.
  22. All my LF coils have the internal battery in the coil case but my HF elliptical does have the external battery in the bottom rod which if i am honest i like the latest setup works exceptionally well. Well done on getting your new Orx
  23. Cannot recall off the top of my head what the stock dual 9'' coil is but almost certain its something like 6.8khz,its because of this low freq its ability to go deeper on say pastures site, they also did dual 6'' coils as well for this machine and this is the one that i have always wanted but never found one,i think Georgie mentioned that the mk11 dual coil would work but would need the coil plug changed over as one is a push fit and the mk11 is a screw fit. All my coils for the MP model are low freq DD coils the only one that is a HF coil is my 11.5'' Concentric coil which runs @24khz,that coil is ultra lightweight and thinner than some mobile phones.Mainly use the SE with the large coil for say pasture and relic/hoard hunting and the MP with the 8x6'' DD coil for normal ploughed and rolled, its a small coil but does goes deep for its size, the main reason being that you dont as such get problems that you normally get with large coils from the ground matrix.......i rarely if ever use my larger coils on the MP as i dont personally like them. They are aimed or seen as more of a specialist detector brand rather than say the everyday use detector,i use it mainly for waht it was designed for pure raw depth and that is the only time i use them really on deep pasture.
  24. Thats a decent YT video,as we are allowed back out again for the most part in the UK will be detecting both saturday and sunday so will probably take my Deus and the Nexus SE with the dual 9'' coil on,its a very unusual analogue detector but must admit it does work exceptionally well once you have mastered it,its phenomenally deep and still pretty good on smaller targets as well. The other Nexus i have and use is the latest analogue Nexus MP that is more complicated setting it up and once again does take time, but i have had mine possibly 4 years and have finally mastered it,most folks give up after a short time duration and sell these machines at a loss, but once the penny finally drops they are 'ultra deep' possibly hitting GPX depth territory and with the large 30'' and even 40'' coils on could possibly go even deeper and of course it has the full discrimination which the GPX is more rudimentary.Of course this is just my personal opinion. Once again well done on your video and look forward to seeing some more.
  25. A nice find, the 6'' coil it stays on my detector 95% of the time, its extremely light and because its so small as we are approaching harvest time soon in the UK you need a small coil to get in between the stubble rows and this is when this small coil really earns its keep. For its size its also pretty deep as well, also use it in AM mode but for me i prefer Field1 it just suits my sites better. Well done
