@auminesweeper,John,i use the RNB battery pack in my DFX and IDX Pro,is a fair amount lighter than either the rechargeable pack or the alkaline battery case as well,i do carry a spare pod and batteries in a spare pack just incase anything was too happen,but as yet never needed to use it.

I thought i was bad with 23 detectors and 45 coils but that CM collection is outstanding and he has probably added a few more since that photo was taken.

My vote would also go for the 5.3 coil i use one on my DFX and it's deadly on really trashy saxon sites,why its called a 5.3 seem to baffle alot of folks but its not actually 5.3'' it is a 6'' coil,possibly one of the windings in side is that size but most folks call a coil by its coil case size but this is not the case with the 5.3. Just had the combine on one of my permissions right at the bottom of my garden about 100 acres,so till christmas time will be hitting this field hard as it will be the last time till the new housing estate is built on it next year,the stubble is soft barley stubble so the best tool for the job will be either the DFX with the 5.3 coil or the T2 with the 5'' coil on,both will allow me too get right down to the ground in between the stubble rows. Tomorrow is a lovely sunny day so guess what i plan on doing most of the day

The 2nd supplier is the one that i bought my GM shafts early last year,use mine all the time on my Deus,terrific shafts especially for the Deus coil,as i mainly just use the detector without the controller as i usually have mine in my pocket and just use it as a audio only machine. But must admit i love the way that Steve has grafted the Gold Monster control box onto the shaft,work and looks very well.

So basically it will be used just for going on the occasional detecting dig rather than being used in the bush it will be used for cruising in Shepherds Bush,the truck will look the part anyway

John,are you taking the 4x4 to Aussie land or what is the long term location of the truck ??

Must admit i thought my recovery kit cost me alot of 'wonga' all £48 for full 'Green Flag' recovery which includes bring you back home on the back of a low loader

Sounds like you have all angles covered John with the new outfit,will be out tecting later on as the sun is out and the ground is good after a few days rain,and also a few freshly harvested fields.Pure bliss in my mind

Its a nice looking truck John,must admit i have never had the need to use a winch or farm jack in all the years that i have been detecting but i guess all it takes is one bad trip and all the gear pays for itself. My BMW X5 does everything that i need basically,big enough boot so that i can carry all my gear in and travel to and from the detecting site in comfort,must admit i still reckon though that the Jap 4x4's are the most reliable going,my favourite one was my Isuzu Trooper that lasted me nearly 18 years before in went to the great car grave yard in the sky due to tin worm,the engine was still getting sweeter as it was gradually getting run in at 250k miles. Look forward to seeing you adventures in your new chariot.

Would be interesting to see what it performs like on a TDI Pro for relic/hoard hunting as that could be a good combination.

I bought the TDI Pro for 2 site specific uses,but of course it will/can be used on other sites as well as,i use the Pro solely for deep work ie hoard hunting or on ground that has a ultra high mineral content. On one of my farms that has 2 potential hoards on,one is a roman silver dinari hoard 25 coins in a 70ft radius this indicates a scattered hoard and 4 fields away 20 Celtic gold full staters once again in a tight radius and same characteristics as the silver dinari hoard,so my plan was/is to use the TDI Pro for not only locating some possible more loose coins but also hunting down the container or pot for a better word.This setup would be using the Minelab 15x12 Mono coil with GB off and using it just for the extra depth on both hoards.Alas we lost the site 2 weeks later due to some scumbag dropping litter and not looking after the landowners property,its been 2 years since the incident and the farmer has allowed just 2 folks back onto his 1000 acre estate so i will be back again after the crops come off in a month or so's time. 2nd scenario for getting the TDI is a permission that has a roman trading villa site on the permission and was used by the roman for about 400 years and of course the amount of coinage and other items that have been dropped is some what short of 'Amazing' running into 1000s of coins,but the twist is with this site is the fact that the ground is about as hard as it gets here in the UK its almost black sand like on the beach but 100 miles in land,very few VLF machine work on this site and then normally you can only get a few inches in depth,but the TDI with 'GB on' using low conductivity and the 14x9 Coiltek Mono works a treat,this of course allows you to still detect the roman coins which have included both silver dinari and gold coins as well but also reduce the digging of iron to a much lower amount than if GB was off. So although its not gold nugget related it shows that the TDI Pro can work for you both way with the GB on or off and the various benefits that each one offers. Of course this is just how i use my TD others may use it differently and of course thats the flexibility of this machine.

Not a easy question answer really,as it was not just gold nugget detectors i guess more of a general what do you use. These are my 3 main ones although i do have many more site specific use ones. 1)Everyday use detector Deus with 9'' coil,also carry a complete back up machine just incase anything goes wrong with my prime machine. 2)Nexus MP with 3 coils 13'',10'' and 7'' coil,this machine excels in very highly mineralised ground conditions and can also work very well on wetsalt beaches,but its the total crazy depth of this machine that i mainly use it for deep relic and hunting gold related hoards. 3)TDI Pro was my main depth machine,but these days has been relegated too hunting for gold jewellery etc on beaches,also with a small coil on is great for micro jewellery.

Must admit i am finding hard to understand what you are asking ?? are you saying your GPX was stolen ?? and you are having too use a X-Terrible 70 instead of and you want advice on the Coiltek coil ??

Must admit i am really looking forward and seeing how this all works out,dont plan on using a ATX but some of these similar PI machines like the Vallon PI that are often on Ebay at the moment that can be picked up for basically peanuts,cosmetically they may be slightly rough but the guts inside is all i would be interested in.So will follow this thread very closely.

As yet i have not made up my mine,but as we dont have gold nuggets as such then i am inclined to be going for a 4500 rather than the 5000,if i was in say Aussie land or Nevada then it would be the 5k version for sure but its just the extra depth for deep artifact so the 4500 will do exactly what i am looking for and also they are on special offer and much cheaper that the 5K.Thats my logic and way of thinking,i am never in a hurry and do all my thorough homework,money is in my pocket but its not burning a hole in it for sure.

I do have a few various machines in my arsenal,but the 3 main ones that i use on a regular basis and cover most of my needs are the Deus for what i would call everyday use,Nexus MP for real deep work and this thing is deep and finally the TDI Pro for beach work.Must admit i am really liking this new Nexus its also performs very well on very hard ground conditions ie highly mineralized,it not a easy machine too master but well worth it for some of the sites that i have access too I am also getting a new GPX but not rushing into the 1st deal,as i always spend time looking for the best price,think i have narrowed it down,but still need to be 100% certain before i open my wallet.

Regis,nice mind mate do you have any indication of age yet as in does it have any markings on it or it a early gold ring ??,not been Mudlarking for a long time,may start doing some during the year.Will sort out that Coiltek thing tomorrow as i am away at the moment.

That is a very nice motor,is it petrol or diesel ?? is that petrol tank on the back wheel linked into the main fuel line ??

No not yet,but had been following his progress on the project on Geotech,all ready have 3 PI machine one is a Crossbow Classic built by George Overton who co-owns Geotech they are ultra rare detectors as he only made 13.May have a look at a Vallon later today.

Most of the later RedHeat machines made by the late Vic Fiveash used the alloy telescopic legs off a tripod,must admit they did work rather well,almost bought a Redheat but what i did not like about it was the reverse discrimination on it,that did take some getting use too,but folks across the pond liked them for relic hunting,but alas when Vic passed away about 4 years ago no one was prepared to take over the repair and service of the detectors,alas the design of the Redheat detector and how they had been built went to the grave with Vic.

When i decide to do some testing i will give you a shout mate you would be more than welcome to give it a try.
